/officerchat : Poor, Poor Guild Bank

I'm glad to hear it's working out for you. The biggest complaint I got from this contest was "we raised all this gold, and got a lesser amount as a reward." It takes a little finesse to explain that the bank needed funds and a reward period was a lot better than simply depositing both teams gold to begin with. Many players forget that you're only asking for junk in their bank or farmed mats to be deposited, not the stockpile of epic BoE gear and gems they had waiting around for their own gold fund. I'd imagine the answer to that would be to limit the material type you allow to be deposited in the contest. Perhaps limit it to cloth/leather/herbs/ore only? Many ideas to consider, based upon your guild's expectations & needs. Congrats on the success!

/officerchat : I miss you, E-Buddy

This article spawned after a joking /gkick ended up kicking a wonderful girl out of my life, be it virtual or not. After months of moving on and trying to forget, she randomly contacted me through this site and rekindled our bond. Since, we've chased each other from one game to another hand in hand with a connection twice as strong as the original. I feel as a society we have moved towards an electronic environment with all the social media platforms and accessibility. This thoroughly brings the "friend next door" into a world-wide range, being only clicks away. I wish you both luck in your e-relationship struggles. We're only as close as the contact we keep, and life is much to short to shuffle it away with grudges and grievances. Make the most you can, and share your emotions with those who you want to hear them. You'll never know what may arise if you simply put yourself out there. That's all we can do on this crazy ol internet.

/officerchat : Aion Guild Structure

There has been nothing imposed yet concerning an in-game "Officer chat". What you and your officers need to do, is the following: 1. Develop a name and password for your guild's "officer chat" channel. We'll call it GUILD 1234 **Names can only be 10 characters long, and the password 4 characters long. 2. Create a macro that you and all your officers will use. It should imitate this: /CreateChannel GUILD 1234 /Delay 1 /JoinChannel GUILD 1234 3. Every time you and your officers log into the game, click that macro button and you will either create or join your predefined private channel. 4. Go into chat options and give the channel a fancy color, and perhaps it's own window. Enjoy! (The same works with multi-legion alliances, or perhaps a multi-legion leader channel) -Sedge

/officerchat : The Art of /Gkick

Yes! You are absolutely correct. This did not even cross my mind late last night as I was writing the post. Always be wary of your raid lock outs, your gbank priviledges, and any Ventrilo/Forum access such a member may have. The first thing a kicked player may do is look for ways to disrupt your guild out of spite. Good thinking!

/officerchat : Back to School Blues

Reverse the action in which caused it. Become active in raiding and being an officer. Come online, start getting involved and doing things with the guild. Once you've proven that you are back to "active" status, I'm sure you'll be included a lot more than you are now. Guilds want to gear out the active players, as they are the ones showing up and providing the numbers on the meters. Get yourself into that group, and you'll be back to where you were in no time.

The "problem" is that if johnny has a problem, YOU are going to have a problem. Johnny isn't going to sit and deal with the decision that despite all his effort to help, grow, and progress the guild, he is going to be replaced. Johnny will most likely voice his opinions of dismay in the guild chat, and rile up the other members. This of course, starts plotting players against players with different viewpoints of the matter, and could cause a guild-wide struggle. In these situations, people quit. It's hard to understand how you would be involved with guild management with the attitude of "It's your problem, deal with it," when many of us know that guild problems are our problems. If WoW were as simple as you make it out to be, being a GM wouldn't be a full-time job at all. You say "people move on with their lives," but obviously if johnny has invested a year+ in this particular guild, he's not looking to "move on". When you start giving the impression that you don't care about him or his problems, you're going to have a messy guild to tidy up. I could be wrong, so by all means tell your veteran members that they don't mean much to you, will simply be replaced, and if they have a problem, it's their own because you couldn't care less. The overall point I'm trying to make, is that people are people, not numbers, and are not to be treated as such. If they stay in your guild, give them my sympathies.

/officerchat : Stop Being So Difficult!

I agree, that's always a rough guy to have hanging around. I have had one, very intelligent guy, and ended up promoting him to officer. He takes care of all my oversights and the public relations when random guildies don't like a decision made. I made sure he understood that problems and "injustices" will be handled with me through a whisper, and there are usually factors for my decisions that he isn't aware of. So instead of having my "knight in shining armor" blurt out every thought he has to the guild, he's began to realize that much more is happening throughout the guild while he isn't around and my decisions reflect upon such. Taking the entire list into consideration, I'd rather have a handful of these than a few of the others. Thanks for your insight!

/officerchat : I Have to Take Orders from HER?

I think there is nothing wrong with "genderizing" your role in a guild, even if it may be GM. You are what you are, and there is no point in downplaying it for the sake of qualifying you as an equal player. These issues are real, and they need to be validated, then corrected. Yes, you are a female gamer; Yes, you will be harassed; and Yes, you can emphasize all your female personality traits while stifling inconsiderate and/or plain out rude behavior. I think female gamers will only broaden their market share and acceptance in games if they are to take hold and express who they are. Play the game, be a girl, and take a firm stance against unacceptable behavior. If certain boys/men realize that women are to be treated as any other player, and not an online sexual object, then I truly believe that women can introduce new perspectives and ideas that will greatly improve today's gaming society.

I get the opposite end of these issues. I have had a few women roll through my guild (some still present) and they like to utilize these aspects to their benefit. I'll log on and the whispers will begin- "Hey Sedgey, how was your day?" "I don't need to worry about that boss, I have big, strong Sedge here to protect me." etc etc. Through the way I find them to communicate with my officers and the rest of the guild, it seems as if I'm getting 'special treatment'. Sure enough, when it came patch time and 10m Ulduar groups began being planned, these women were fast to pull their strings to try guaranteeing themselves a spot in the lineup. I'd have to say that almost the same went with gear. "I could really use that Sedge, but I'd understand if you have to give it to one of the boys. :`( " Manipulative, conniving girls, I tell you. If they want to keep the sweet, innocent attitude with me, that's fine, but they found out quickly that special priviledges for being a woman don't fly to far. Skilled, active players get rewarded, not vaginas for the sole fact of being just that. (My highest ranking officer is a woman who's been with the guild almost since conception. She keeps everyone in line & I love her to death) Great post btw Sol, jumped into an empty vent tonight to commend as such, to no avail.

/officerchat : Problematic Players: Part 3

Regardless of recruitment, raid scheduling, or member base, when the time comes to raid, and somebody didn't show, it relies on one player to enable raiding for ten that night. If that one member restricts raid access for everyone else, that's a low blow in my book. Paladin dps can always be replaced by higher dps. I've yet to see a pally topping charts in my raids, and always have extra geared clothies on hand to get the job done. Not to mention that new raiding seems to prefer ranged dps over melee. The point of the hybrid is to cover multiple raiding holes if need be. Now if someone gives me an ultimatum, they're sitting out. I'm not scheduling dps to heal, and I'm only short the healers because somebody didn't show or couldn't make it. It's the responsibility to the guild of those who can heal, to heal. These are the days when most players have dual-spec. If it's a main or off spec, I expect it to be utilized when needed. Plain and simple. If a member of mine rolls for a purple for his "off spec".... I'll be damned if he tells me no when he's asked to use that off spec. It's about give and take.

/officerchat : Problematic Players: Part 3

I feral druid tank, I resto druid heal, and I mage dps... all depending upon what the raid needs. I think when it comes to your guild and whether or not it gets to raid that night, if a player can do it, a player should do it, regardless of "what they like". Sure, let them have main spec gear and no, don't make it a permanent role. If I had a player who had the gear to perform an action and flat out refused? I'm sorry, but I'm flat out refusing to bring him at all the next week. It's a team effort to complete raids and down bosses. If one player wants to turn that into a headache week after week, he can shop for a guild elsewhere. A guild is a place to socialize and play with like minded people which whom you enjoy sharing your company with. Sometimes you run across those who aren't a good fit, so you have to let them know to keep on trucking.

/officerchat : The Drunken Raid

I only schedule my \\\'fun runs\\\' on nights outside our raiding schedule. Whereas we raid sunday through thursday, members take advantage of the weekend to either participate in these events, or to catch up on raids they weren\\\'t able run throughout the week. If some do not wish to join in our activities, that is at their discretion. However, normal raid times and behavior will remain expected once the week resumes.
