Based on this stunning precedent, is it any wonder why I don't believe the PM's prophecies when it comes to the sainted vaccine (snake oil)?

This is a war but not of the WW2 variety but a Vietnam/Iraq catastrophe. A catalogue of errors based on bogus 'expert' information resulting in a refusal to admit that errors were ever made.

Gove is already talking about extending the lockdown beyond December 1. It is also likely we will need a third lockdown in February. Mass unemployment to soar till August next year.

It would be fascinating to know the composition of the fanatics who are advocating for a scientifically illiterate, counter-productive second lockdown . I can say quite comfortably that the overwhelming majority will come from the following groups:
1. Public sector workers.
2. Well-pensioned boomers.
3. Privileged upper-middle class, working from homers like Mr Dale.
4. Authoritarian leftists.
5. Anti-human, socially inept introverts.
6. The mentally ill who have an irrational fear of death.

NZ can't shut its economy off from the world indefinitely. We will see in 12 months time how they're doing after failing to build up any herd immunity during this initial outbreak.
