9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Apple resellers update iPad signage to acknowledge possibly misleading 4G branding, customers emaile

From what I see there, for some users, it means a slightly extended return deadline.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Lenovo's laptops are looking less like Thinkpads and more like MacBook Pros

This thing hasn't been released yet. But the U300/U400 mentioned looks like a close copy too, this just takes it a little closer. They keys on the Lenovos are slightly different shape, but if adjusting a few things is their idea of being unique, then they need to be stopped.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : AT&T sets itself up for failure: Says Lumia 900 launch will be a notch above iPhone

Does that include a notch of fantasy too? Recent Windows phones haven't managed to get traction. I wonder if they should spin it off, name it something not Windows, in part because there really isn't much for windowing anyway, and have the OS not have the Microsoft name, because the Microsoft and Windows brands seem to be hurting more than helping here. Going by the success of their XBox line, I'd think they'd take a cue and not call it Windows.

No patents to offer seems fine to me, which is better than a proposal that they imply involves patents, even if they are put under a FRAND licensing scheme. I'm not really sure what would be patentable with the tray system.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Apple CEO Tim Cook announces dividend and share repurchase program

I expect that it makes almost no impact (relatively speaking) in their reserves. Didn't they net $45B in the last three years? If not, Apple's growth can easily make up for it. Apple's R&D costs are a spit in that huge bucket, and they take advantage of significant economies of scale.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Cook: 'We had a record [iPad] weekend, and we're thrilled with it.'

Supposedly there was an internal memo at FedEx that said they moved about 500,000 iPads last weekend. I think there were a few other carriers involved as well (DHL was menioned in a story last week too), so it could be a significant number.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Review: 24 hours with the new iPad...

It seems like this review is designed to generate controversy. For the page views? If I had a 4G hot spot like a MiFi, I'd dump it and get it built in. The extra $100 and extra ounce of weight and sliver extra thickness is negligible compared to the new screen. The iPad now looks more like a high quality digital magazine device rather than a portable computer screen trying to pretend it's a digital reader.

It is against the law, but that law is one of those that we should have repealed, especially if we care about our 4th amendment rights, among other things given up in our collective, ill-conceived drug prohibition. I'm generally against using drugs, but I'm also against the overzealous prosecution done on behalf of these laws.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : One Retina Display icon has many more pixels than a whole original Macintosh screen

Yes, but Apple has been pushing developers behind the scenes to prepare for this. A lot of graphical elements will be more than doubled, and some elements are even vector-based. There will always be legacy applications, there's a point where they can't let them hold themselves back and maybe that will push users and developers to catch up.

That resolution is required for use in the App store. The retina icons that you actually get on your computer and iPad are smaller.

I recall several people were saying the exact same thing to explain why the iPad wouldn't get the resolution doubling that it did get with the latest update. If the A5X can manage it and the device still gets good battery life, I don't see the problem with the next Mac hardware updates supporting a higher resolution with resolution independence. Heck, I think the cheapest card in the original Mac Pro can run two 30" displays, and that's a six year old product now.
