Commentary Magazine : Marco Rubio v. Science

Q: Senator, if one of your daughters asked you—and maybe they already have—“Daddy, did god really create the world in 6 days?,” what would you say? A: What I’ve said to them is that I believe that God created the universe and that the six days in the Bible may not be six days as we understand it … it may not be 24-hour days, and that’s what I believe. I know there’s always a debate between those who read the Bible literally and those who don’t, and I think it’s a legitimate debate within the Christian community of which I’m a part. My belief is that the story that the Bible tells about God creating this magnificent Earth on which we live—that is essentially true, that is fundamentally true. Now, whether it happened exactly as we might understand it reading the text of the Bible: That, I don’t presume to know. The Daily Caller reveals the name of the senator in this exchange, in case you haven't guessed already. (not Marco Rubio)

It is not true that Barack Obama is a messiah, a latter-day Jesus Christ. The only thing Obama has in common with Jesus is the same middle initial.

After the 2004 election, John Kerry promised to release the complete medical records from his naval service, to refute the claims made by his fellow Swift Boat crewmen. More than seven years later, we're still waiting to see those records.

I was wondering why John Barry was not on the list (Dances With Wolves, Out of Africa, Goldfinger and other Bond films). And where's Maurice Jarre? (Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago) How about James Horner? (Legends of the Fall)

Big Peace : Iran Aggression Vindicates Bush Doctrine

Actually, since neither George W Bush nor anyone else in an official capacity (Rice, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell, etal) ever published a single authoritative white paper labeled "Bush Doctrine", it was possible for different people to characterize (or mischaracterize) it differently. Remember when Sarah Palin objected to Charles Gibson's question, "Do you agree with the Bush Doctrine?" "In what respect, Charlie?" Eventually she got tired of his failure to get specific about what he was asking, so her answer referred to ridding the world of Islamic extremists. A good answer but probably not all-inclusive. Then Gibson offered his own opinion, that preemptive attacks are sometimes warranted. That's also part of it, but hardly original with Bush 43.

Big Peace : The Obama Administration’s Anti-Israel Tenor Forces Iran and Israel Toward War

Obama is making the world a far less safe place, and his defense cuts are diminishing our safety. But Obama won't be around when the really nasty stuff happens, so the next president will end up taking the blame. Rumsfeld said, you go to war with the army you have, not the one you want. In the next war, we'll have to go to war with the army that's left over after Obama gets through slashing the budget.

Breitbart.tv : *Live Stream* AZ/MI Primary Election Coverage - Hugh Hewitt Show

Romney is about 90% conservative, but has said some stupid things about global warming and seems uninterested in fundamental tax reform. IMO what Rush is doing is trying to keep Romney from winning the nomination too easily. Romney needs to be pushed/pulled a bit further to the right, and then he needs to be seen as conservative enough so that there is no third-party challenger. So, I think Rush is not bashing Romney, because he sees Romney as almost inevitable. He just wants to make sure it's not so easy that Romney thinks he can start running towards the center -- as that would piss off conservatives and make it likely that someone would run an independent campaign to the right of Romney. Romney can beat Obama, easily, if there are no other serious candidates on the ballot.

Good actors, even average actors, can do good work when properly directed. Bad actors are still bad even when they have the best directors. Example: Tom Cruise in Eyes Wide Shut. But I guess Tom didn't make the list because he has never been considered an exceptional actor.

Big Government : Corzine Firm's Bankruptcy Reminds Us Dems Repealed Glass-Steagall, Opened Derivative Market

Quoting from Wikipedia: Reported by the joint conference committee on Nov 2, 1999; agreed to by the Senate on Nov 4, 1999 (90-8) and by the House on Nov 4, 1999 (362-57).... Republicans voted 207-5 in favor with 10 not voting. Democrats voted 155-51 in favor, with 5 not voting... So it was not the Democrats along, nor was it the Republicans. Repeal of Glass-Steagall was bipartisan.

I think foreigners (and everyone else) should be taxed at a single very-low tax rate on every bit of income they earn in the US. If we stopped exempting so much income from the tax base, there would not have to be a 30% rate, or a 20% rate, or even a 15% rate.
