In the modern age? Would be kind of a letdown, I think due to airspace regulations.

Not really a movie I would be inclined to remember. The plot and characters were solid enough for what it was, but the insufferably cutesy alien speak and oppressive pop soundtrack blaring over everything did make it a mildly irritating experience to watch.

Here, have something terrifying for your thoughts:

There are some benefits to a upvote/downvote system, actually, depending on the format. Mostly when you have an individual trying to get useful feedback on a particular subject from a vast mob. In most forums I would really rather we did away with this and just force people to actually talk about something if it was worth talking about. At least with the lack of a downvote on this site the tendency to crush dissenting strands of opinion is much less muted and requires some effort to engage the subject.

Man, don't get me nerd weeping about the Coco Pommel effect again.

Just saw it with a sibling. As someone who was actually completely indifferent to the new release, I'd say I agree. Definitely revives a lot of the same tropes of the first trilogy, I suppose to recapture that magic, but I don't mind that as a way to establish firm footing for the first film. Thematically it deals with a lot more interesting stuff as far as characters go that is worth exploring.

I'm particularly pleased that the female protagonist for the movie isn't just a watered-down Katniss again, like every "strong female protagonist" in media since the Hunger games has been.

Kind of a whatever character, Tree Hugger. Not really one I found memorable. More of a stereotype incarnate than a character in her own right. Odd episode in general. I liked it okay, but it kind of felt like a no-impact episode in the bigger picture of the character sort of deal to me.

On that tangent, for as much of an appearance as Discord made Season 5, his importance as a character just seemed to peter out. Granted, I'm in the crowd for which What About Discord left a rather lackluster morsel as his last appearance. In a season dedicated (in theory?) to teaching others about friendship, having an episode where one of the main characters actually made a conscious effort to guide Discord would have felt rewarding, though. However, a lot of stuff this season to cover, so I don't think I necessarily would have wanted an additional episode since he didn't really figure into the overarching plot in a significant way.

That depends. I know several easy ways to generate massive amounts of thrust at distance, but how much of the original object left intact would you consider a successful levitation?

Yeah. Kind of. People are self-absorbed (I don't meant this as an insult, just an observation of psychology) and they like to construct a mirror to see themselves reflected in media through these kinds of character.

There's a reason why the silent video game protagonist is such a commonly beloved figure. I think Chell from Portal topped a lot of people's best character list for a while after the game came out, for example.

The less generalized you make a character, the more you have to work to make sure they are interesting enough to keep people invested in them. See: what happens when you give Twilight Sparkle a very specialized life goal.

Troubleshoes was one of the more humanly identifiable characters, even if his episode had lackluster reception. My personal favorite one-shot character of the season. He did about as well as I would expect.

Hm, I don't care a significant amount about any of these characters in their own right, but I suppose Moon Dancer will have to get my vote in her utility as a character.

Eh, we'll work with what we've got. The government can't keep you from walking around dressed in a medieval clown costume, s'all I'm saying. I'm convinced I can sell you on this deal.
