I tried running beta5 on my iPhone4 using vmware workstation, and it gets stuck on the "waiting for reboot" phase at the end of the jailbreak every time. Has anyone successfully ran this redsn0w with vmware, if so any tips ?

Again, You can already jailbreak your brand new iPhone4 with the current redsn0w v0.9.6b6 to, their is no point for you to wait for the upcoming redsn0w release because your iPhone is going to still be tethered.

Theirs not a really good reason to hold off, I would update to 6.15 if I were in your situation. Just remember that you might not have functioning GPS features if you do decide to update to 6.15, but you well have a Working Unlock.

Yes it is untethered, as long as you have the OLD bootrom. Also you can jailbreak/unlock it using Redsn0w. Use Redsn0w v0.9.6b6, which you can find above.

"All US carriers that sell LOCKED handsets are REQUIRED by LAW to provide unlock codes upon request." Than why is AT&T not obligated by US law to do so for iPhone Owners ?

Thats because you have to run redsn0w, its a tethered bootup. Also why are you using tinyumbrella to update to 4.2.1 ?

For people posting that they are getting error 1604 in iTunes when trying to shift restore their iDevice to a custom cooked firmware file, here is how to bypass the 1604 error and install the custom firmware without errors- Using the current version of Redsn0w, put Phone in "Pwned DFU mode" and then try to shift restore to your custom firmware file using iTunes. Then your Device should be able to restore to the Custom firmware file with out any issues. -ItsMeScottG

Use the current version of Redsn0w, and the 4.1 firmware file. Or you can update to 4.2.1 and then use the 4.2.1 firmware file with the latest version of Redsn0w. Either way you can unlock your Device.

Is it possible for The Dev-Team to take an old base-band that supports a very stable unlock (such as the old valuable 04.26.08) and change it to say it is base-band version 10.0.x and then sense it is of a later baseband version (number wise) than the current stock apple base-band, you would theoretically be able to stock restore to the latest firmware in iTunes, and then flash the old (04.26.08) base-band onto your device using Redsn0w (By tricking your iDevice into thinking that it is a much later base-band version), and then the old exploit would be on the iPhone and users could use Ultrasn0w to unlock their iPhones. I wonder if it is possible for the Dev-Team to decrypt the iPhone Base-Bands in order to do this process above, if it is possible it would be a great permeant soft unlock solution for the iPhone3G/iPhone3GS.

You must do a tethered boot using redsn0w, and then your iPhone3GS well boot up properly. this happens on iPhone3GS units with the NEWBOOTROM. (Its called a Tethered Jailbreak.)

you can jailbreak it (untethered) on firmware 4.1 using redsn0w/limera1n/greenpois0n, or you can update your iPod to firmware 4.2.1 and jailbreak it (tethered) with Redsn0w.
