West Ham Till I Die : The Return of Zamora?

My opinion is that January could see him join and Piq head out of the club. After all, Zamo is a tried and tested PL striker and is just the type of player that you would want to add to a newly promoted squad. Unless - a promoted West Ham are likely to have the size of transfer pot necessary to buy top draw additions? The latter is not very likely - so the move is possible in my book. If the transfer fee is £5m - that is affordable for the club and his personal terms are also not likely to be a problem either. So why not?

More interestingly, I think that the question is - would West Ham want Zamora back? Is he an improvment upon Cole, Carew or Piquionne? Will he improve our strike force, has his first touch and finishing improved from his time at Upton Park? Does Sam Allardyce rate him and want to add him to the squad?

I believe that Bobby would take a resurgent West Ham over any of those type of clubs. Zamo loves West Ham - he is claret and blue thro and thro. I think he would jump at the chance to return - especially if the promotion challenge is going well. That love for the club should not be underestimated. With regard to England - Bobby must know that he is a fringe player and is unlikely to be in the final 23. It is great to play for your country - but the bigger consideration must be to be happy playing your club football. You would usually prefer to stay in the PL - but I am reckoning that Bobby would be prepared to help the Hammers to promotion and then pick up his PL career next season. I also noted his presence at Brighton and - to be honest - I dismissed it as just a player watching his two former clubs. But now I wonder if there might have been more to it than that?

I could see a deal for Zamora happening in January or the following summer. He is clearly not happy at Fulham - whether its tactics, formations or an alleged clash with the manager. If Zamo joins another PL club who is it likely to be? Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Spurs? Of course not - if he was targeted by one of the top clubs - then yes he would go there. But - the truth is that the likes of Swansea, QPR, Norwich, Stoke City or Wigan are far more likely to be in for him.

I wasn't, but I gave in to temptation - plus my insomnia problem will not allow me to turn in! I am sure that you are a lion in debate, but I still would not fancy your chances! Anyway, enough already! Time to call it a nite and I mean it this time! lol.

A game of two halves HM. Properly right about Carlton, totally wrong about SJC! lol. But lets - indeed - hope you are wrong about Carlton - for all our sakes!

The person that the comment was aimed at was someone who was just plain rude. They did not 'take up a critical stance' - as you put it - they were bloody rude to someone that has earnt a great deal of respect on this site. If it had been a reasonable, reasoned and logical criticism - I would not have responded in that way. Disrespect gets disrespect in my book! I am glad that you do not hold grudges. It is a pity that SJC no longer post on the threads - I am sure that you would have an interesting dialogue - but to say that I would not fancy your chances much is a bit of an understatement! lol. No seriously, I intend to draw a line under this now. Best wishes HM, no doubt you have school tomorrow. Have a good day fellow!

If you respond HM - I do not intend to reply because we will just end up going round and round in circles. Lets agree to disagree and hopefully engage more productively on other West Ham related issues. I think that is the adult thing to do. ps. I recently read your blog post on Carlton Cole on another Hammers website (I canot remember the name for the site just now). I found it interesting and illuminating to read on many levels. Well done HM!

First of all - thanks for pointing out the typo HM. A bit like the 'you mat' typo in your comment. So perhaps we would both do well to proof read more closely before commenting in future. I totally agree that we will never see eye to eye on this subject - so I concur - lets not go over it all yet again. I would like to make the point though that my earlier comments were not aimed at you. I do not believe that you had commented when I posted it. In truth - I have no problem with you HM - in fact you seem a decent chap. I think that I have said this to you before. However - I get frustrated with your constant harping on about the length of SJ's blog posts because I want to engage with others on the excellent contents - not focus on what I feel to be a distraction. It just seems to me that you harbour a grudge against SJC and Iain - as much as you dress it up as freedom of criticism. If you do then please take it up with them directly and refrain from dragging the rest of us in to it. That is all I respectfully ask as one WHTID contributor to another.

That's not everything and I am not sure that it does justice to the complexity of SJC's blog post - but that is a rough precis - probably in more than 100 words - but never mind. ps. I do not include you in my earlier comments - you seem a genuine and respectful person - unlike some others on here.

Carlton Cole turned Hull City match - needs to become consistent Baldock could be the goal poacher we have been looking for Promotion challenge built on away results - must improve at home Paralel with Toon and QPR points total at this point in the season Toon and QPR both had some poor results - like WHU they bounced back after them - both drew with Bristol C. at home (could be a good omen)! Montano back - was his attitude wrong at Swindon? and Lee needed to cover Noble BMM shaping up well - could he benefit from loan spell at Di Canio's Swindon Jordan Brown did not play at Aldershot - we need to ask why? Who will replace Capello - should Redknapp get a shot? Ron Greenwood had 60% win ratio as England boss - did sterling job restoring pride after Revie debacle John Lyall should have followed Greenwood as England Manager Well done to the FA for negotiating compromise with FIFA on wearing the poppy on Sat against Spain

As to content - the comparisons with the Toon and QPR really put our performance this season in perspective. We are in line with their accumulation of points up to this point - its just that Southampton are playing way above themselves. Can they keep it up? I hope not. The paralel with their results with Bristol City and our recent 0-0 draw is really funny. I was well cheesed off with that result on the nite - but perhaps it is a good omen?

An excellent post SJC. Some very fascinating points and beautifully crafted - as usual. Thank you for taking the time and effort to write for us. You are the best West Ham writer on the blogosphere - bar none. I dispair for the future of this country when I read some of the idiotic comments above. Take no notice of them - the intellectual limitations of these people are the real reason that they bang on about length and retreat in to pathetic sarcasm. The majority of us love what you do and that is reflected in the popularity of the site. Thanks once again.

There is none so blind as those that will not see! We have been passing the ball well at times this season - but all the Sam bashers want to rant on about is 'route one' football. The build up for that second goal was as good as anything you will see in the PL.

Agreed. I could not disagree more with recent comments on here that we have a Championship quality squad - which will need a major restructure to survive in the PL. I believe that we will be in a much stronger position to compete than in 2005 - when we last went up - with good quality players and some exceptional youngsters in the pipline. Yes - we will need to buy - but it will not be a QPR type restructure!

Seriously though - Big Sam is doing wonders keeping the promotion push going in these circumstances. I think he is right when he says that the quality of our squad shines through - but the strength in depth has been exposed by our terrible bad luck with injuries. Sam needs to use this international break to get at least two or three decent loan or free agent players in to the club. It's going to be a tough ask - but hopefully he has a couple of cards up his sleeve. Here's hoping!

A very good clinical performance by Sam's Hammers. We are suffering badly with injuries - but we are still winning games. I wonder how Saints would cope if they suffered a injury crisis like ours. Not so well in my opinion. I have been too busy of late to post - but I had a quick read up on the previous posts to see what people have been saying. The comments after the Bristol City result were depressingly familiar - with all the doom and gloom merchants out in force trying to to put the boot in. Well didn't this result shout them up! lol.

Very good tactical and defensive performance. We worked so hard and defended high up the pitch. Sky reckon Brighton had 69% of possession - but what did they do with it? They were really poor in the final third and our defence easily contained them. Brighton only had one real threatening strike on goal and spent most of their time shooting ineffectively from distance. Going forward we were not up to scratch. Our passing was generally poor and Carew got far too isolated up front. Sears improved things when his pace was introduced in the second half. From that point we looked more dangerous on the break and Faubert could well have scored a second goal. It was not pretty - but it was effective and the three points and 2nd place are more than adequate compensation. Big Sam went to Brighton with a game plan and he players executed it beautifully!
