KCRG : Military Families Worry About Shut Down Affects | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports, and We

We're spending billions on 3 illegal wars...for what? A fossil fuel that will eventually run out. We turned into exactly what President Eisenhower predicted...we have become a military industrial complex. We can blow any other nation off the face of the planet if we wanted to. There is a difference between military spending and defense spending and the billions we are losing in that blackhole called the Pentagon is military spending, not for defense. Keep defense spending and cut the military spending.

Anyone who is serious about cutting our spending should also talk about military spending cuts. If you were to cut all non-military discretionary spending, that is everything except military spending, Medicaid and Medicare and Social Security. If you were to cut all our spending on NPR, Planned Parenthood, National Parks, and etc. and take it to $0 it still wouldn't even put a dent into our debt. If we were really serious about cutting spending then we would look at the Pentagon where we lose billions of dollars every year. We have the greatest military in the world and I understand that in order to have the best you need to pay for it, but I'm sure there is a lot of pork there, and a lot of this money is unaccounted for.

KCRG : Hearing On Proposal For Another Nuclear Plant Is Today | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports,

I'm not buying what they are selling. Every year our utility rates go up. They never go down. So if we build a new nuclear power plant will that mean our utility rates stay the same or go down? Probably not. We don't even use any of the electricity produced at Duane Arnold, its sold to Florida. So we get all the risks of the nuclear power but none of the benefits. So if Duane Arnold was to ever have any problems, who would suffer in the end? Not the owners of the plant or the CEOs of the utility companies. Yeah they would have to throw some $$ at the problem, but we live here, a good majority of us most of our lives....I can guarantee you that those who profit from these plants live no where near these places. I say until we start seeing our rates decrease or at least stay the same they don't get to build a new poison plant at our expense. They get enough of our $$ from our bills, they can start using some of that.

lol the person who wants to limit the rights of gay people is telling me to have an open mind lmfao. Again show me hard concrete evidence that gays never really wanted to get married until a few rouge gays decided they wanted to. You can't because it doesn't exist....the only place it exists is in yours and Bob Vander Plaats heads. Women were happy not voting and not having rights until a handful of them decided they wanted to vote and be considered citizens in the 1850s..

Just because you didn't see any of the injustices doesn't mean they didn't exist. The gay were happy before? Really? What evidence do you have other than the anecdotial evidence you just gave? That's like saying the blacks were happy with the Jim Crow laws in place before Rosa Parks had to go and stir the pot by sitting in the front of the bus. Just because you think they were happy with the bigoted status quo doesn't mean they were. What you're really trying to say is you were pretty much happy when gay people couldn't get married and now that they are legally allowed to its a problem....

Also the term Secretary at the U is a generic term. Chances are they were probably schedulers or billers just had the title "secretary" to refer their position on the chain of command and wages.

lol....that's a funny site. I read though it....Can't be considered credible, because they are basically a branch off of the drudge report which is notoriously extreme right wing. They also didn't provide any cited sources in any of their articles...another red flag. Didn't seem very well maintained either...kind of read like Charles Manson's manifesto smeared on the prison walls in p.oop.
People are always going to build and grow in areas where natural disasters happen. That's because natural disasters happen all over the world. Quakes and volcanos and hurricanes, Tornados, Mudslides, landslides, flooding, blizzards, tsunamis, heat waves, drought, wild fires, it really doesn't matter because you can't pick out one place in the world that doesn't have some sort of risk of natural disaster. I hope you don't have kids, because if you do I feel extremely sorry for them that they have to have a parent that is so heartless. People are dying over there, some could even be Americans, but all you care is $$$.

Unfortunately you are right. The only way to stop the outsourcing is to stop giving tax breaks to companies and corporations that ship American jobs overseas. These corporations have been given incentives to outsource jobs. Most foreign companies that do business here don't pay any sort of income tax, and almost half of the domestic corporations pay no taxes either....we need to start taxing these companies if they send jobs overseas and only give them tax breaks for creating jobs here, not overseas. I'm not against tax breaks....I'm just against tax breaks for companies who outsource jobs.

Yeah some of the tax money to the fed does come back to the states in the form of Medicaid, roads, grants, etc....but they still shouldn't be handing it over to foreign govenments for pretty much nothing. The federal government is borrowing over 40 cents for every dollar it spends...why should we borrow money to just ship it overseas? If we're going to borrow that much money, at least spend it on our own citizens.
