ProPrint site : SOS drives 40 million pages per month though Kodak Prosper

i dont imagine there is any great margins in printing for publishers, but i was surprised at the volumes claimed. Good luck if they are achieving that, but the manufacturer states a duty cycle of about 90 million a month - we all know that's perfect world stuff achieved in a showroom, not in real life, so if the 40 million figure is correct, id say SOS are already looking at a second one.

Agreed there. If nothing else, he is aware that a national footprint gives PMP real leverage when it comes to the bigger retail contracts, and that you dont have to drop your pants on price in order to retain work. Fair play to him.

Graham, i thought that was obvious - we dont like you! By the way, dont lose your sense of humour. By the way, for your information printers have been giving to charities and non profits for years - probably centuries. Go to the reception of any sized printer to see the thankyou certificates. Thumbs up to your staff for driving an initiative like this (come on, lets be honest - a few cycling nuts are the ones behind this), but thumbs down for Geon trying to a few cheap PR points - when clearly it is the role of a good and decent corporate citizen to leverage some kind of goodwill for the benefit of charity. Google PMP and Youth Off The Streets to see what can be achieved when large communications company meets non profit. You may learn something.

ProPrint site : Victorian printers score face time with buyers of government\'s $15m spend

i was responding to your question - part quote - '...what would be your solution..'. So i offered one - it may be from fantasy land, but it's a solution - and i am flabbergasted that PIA didn't grab the opportunity to encourage the role of the professional print procurer - not aligned to a PM or print company. In regards to CommBank - they are under no obligation to run a free for all for printers - they select those that provide a spread of services that suit their requirements. If i was in that space, i'd be looking for an itch that CommBank needs scratched, and sell it to them. If you're a commodity printer, move on.

Oh i don't know, maybe an open and transparent tender process, which precludes printers with internal print management functions from tendering - to ensure a fairer system. Coupled with a pricing system that doesn't require onerous broken down costs for paper/print/bindery/despatch - where the price entered is the price to do the job as per the estimate. Possibly that system could include an optional price that displays an alternate which could be a saving for a smaller size, or special paper - or even God forbid - a value add! There is no reason that a government or company of any size can't implement this. There are scores of good print procurement people out there. The reason a major organisation like CommBank keeps its print buying in house as it understands that it should be integrated with the rest of the business - with a long term holistic view. And remember Print_Facts, those same taxpayers include the people that work in or own printing companies that pay taxes both directly and indirectly. Broaden your outlook and look at the bigger picture.

A wise man in Print Management (yes, there are a few) once told me 'in the PM game, it's not what you sell at, it's what you buy for that makes the difference'. I wouldn't expect Finsbury to think any differently.

Given this is in Victoria it has no impact on me as yet, but it's pretty clear that this isn't a winner for the industry in general, or the Vic Govt. I guess time will tell what Finsbury make of it - though in my experience dealing with the public sector, i'd say they will be tearing their hair out in clumps at some point.
