There's a double standard about reporting comments like that (imagine if Mel Gibson had said that subbing white for black of course ) and it didn't make the papers. I think you are very right in saying that it "all comes down to how people approach acing and the culture that surrounds it." I do find that many American actors- though of course not all- do have trouble with the "playing pretend" part and take themselves way too seriously and don't have a sense of humor about themselves (the Hollywood reaction to Ricky Grevais hosting the Golden Globes last year is a good example of this) I do find UK actors have more of a sense of humor about themseves-though there are of course exceptions. His wealth is in stock value, home values, property values, etc. And that can only become real money if someone-or some company-is willing to buy it. So does the left feel that the ever increasing federal government which - to the best of my knowledge- has the largest debt in recorded history, rely more and more on the non existent money of less than 1% of the US population for it's funding? And how far would the actual physical cash of the rich go in terms of helping the government fund it's programs and pay of it's debt? A visionary can no longer be elected. Only someone who gets the job by buying the votes will get in - and this vote buying causing far more harm than good. Look at California and the recent Governor's race between Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman. Whether or not one agrees with Whitman's policies, she did present herself as a visionary to the general public. But Jerry Brown? He just continued trying to buy the vote as usual. So he won. Now he will continue to try to spend taxpayers money to reward his followers, and pass programs that hurt alot more than they help. In California most voters are out for themselves of course. And the state also has the problem of too much immigration- both legal and illegal. But how long before the rest of the country catches up? Or has it already happened? And from what I understand they - and their children - were eligible for affirmative action programs. So if a couple is lucky enough to move from Italy to the US, has a son in the US, that child would be white and not eligible for any affirmative action programs. But if that same Italian couple were to move to Argentina, have their son there, and then the family moves to the US, that child would be termed "Hispanic"- and thus eligible?
