The Cantor Corner : Insanity in the Obama administration

First off.. Thanks for your comment. I like a good debate. :-) Secondly, yes, absolutely I was troubled by some of the actions by our previous administration. In general, if politicians are involved, I believe there will always be a certain level of insanity, corruption, and other shenanigans going on. There were quite a few things I did not like about the decisions of the Bush administration. Some of their spending, the "war" we falsely engaged in with Iraq, which ended up being started on false grounds (WMDs that did not exist). That said, my largest problem with the current administrations spending plans is that there is no way back, once we go there. Once Obama starts spending his $3.6 Trillion budget, on some good and some bad things, there is no way out other than for us, our kids, and our grand-kids to keep paying off the debt. If we can. And despite Obama's lies, it WILL be through increased taxes, whether on income or "fees" on our energy, or other actions he has in the works. Creating jobs is good. Unfortunately, large portions of the so-called job-creation is in no-value-add jobs, such as more government jobs, more oversight, more people adding no value. Some government jobs are good, but in the overall, jobs that create no value on their own other than controlling real production jobs is just negative spending to me. You say that this budget will either let him shine or fail. You are correct in that, but if he fails we will be paying for his mistake forever. He should start smaller on "getting his feet wet", and showing his value, if he has any. He needs to create some trust, before going for the $3.6 Trill action. So far the only real activity we have seen from Obama is spending more money, power grabs (census office, trying to get power to take over companies), failure to reveal that his own people knew about and signed out the AIG bonuses they later pretended to be outraged about, paying off his old friends in ACORN and unions, and tons of similar flunk. Obama, to me, has so far shown to be nothing but a power hungry liar, that spends more time on populist actions such as his sports brackets, making bad jokes on Lenno, and anything else that will get him on camera WITHOUT A JOURNALIST ASKING HIM TRICKY QUESTIONS.. Especially questions that cannot be answered by his tele-prompter. Every time Obama opens his mouth, I have so far learned that I should trust that he actually means the exact opposite. In that way he is actually doing some good. When he opens his mouth, it is very simply to simply search for proof of the opposite, which you are sure to find. That a reason for him not to start his $3.6 Trill deficit spending. He has already managed to show we cannot trust him, and he needs smaller (read: cheaper) actions to regain it before doing something that brazen. On supporting the economy through consumer spending, compared to more government. Notice the difference.. Consumers spending more directly creates more jobs, more sales taxes for local government, and similar. Government coming in, creating government jobs, paying for more ear-marked bridges to nowhere, is not a good incentive or support for a permanent economy. Lastly, VERY large portions of Obama's budget is not for helping local economies. It is implementation of more social programs, which I as a previous citizen of 2 socialist countries can tell you will not work. You cannot better an economy by implementing more social programs during a down economy. As Margaret Thatcher once said: "The problem with socialism is, that eventually you will run out of other people's money".

I have in multiple posts first warned against lying, then documented multiple lies from the Obama administration. In my opinion the highest level of unethical behavior is consistent lying to the American People.. So you are absolutely correct. We seem to have a VERY unethical administration. Ad to that, that people like Pelosi walks around and spins her stories (counter to each other) depending on who she is meeting with, Chris Dodd caught telling different and opposite stories on his OWN actions in just one day's span, and I think it is clearly documented that we have a totally unethical leadership in today's administration and democratic party.

The Cantor Corner : I am a LEGAL immigrant - and I am offended

I certainly hope you are correct.. I have long been tired of listening to people attack enforcement of the immigration laws, and attacks on Sheriff Arpaio, whom I think is doing an excellent job. What people forget is that if they do not like the immigration laws, then they can simply collect enough votes to get them changed.. The bad is that they instead complain when the existing laws are being enforced. Similarly, I must be dense, because I simply cannot understand why people can argue that illegal aliens (note: they are not immigrants), should have any rights in this country of ours. They are ILLEGAL.. They are breaking the laws of the land, similarly to other criminals. If someone broke into my house and claimed that they wanted to live there, the police would show up and remove them. This is no different. Illegal aliens are breaking into our land, and claiming that I should pay to put heir kids through school, that I should pay to create all government forms in THEIR language and that I should support them.. To me it simply makes no sense at all.

I have unfortunately been waiting for years. I like your confidence in that system, but right now everything seems to be going more and more towards political correctness, and I am not seeing enough people pushing back on the immigration trends. Latest is that Sheriff Joe Arpaio (http://www.mcso.org/) is now being put under investigation by a group of democrats for his fight against illegal immigration. Part of my frustration here. Being illegal is becoming the new "legal" state, and almost a requirement for getting a free ride.

I haven't figured that one out yet. Although I am happy I did it the legal way, I question myself almost every day on why I bothered. My taxes here locally go to support many of the illegals and their kids. Similarly, my kids come home and report that their teacher "confiscated" their school supplies to be able to supply them to those same illegal kids. No matter how much I protest it, I cannot make it stop.

That is one thing I absolutely hate to see. When people come here and expect that their new country change all their rules to pander to them. Like California and oher states, where every public office form has to exist in many languages, simply because the newcomers refuse to learn English

Yes. Strings, and bad ones at that. Not just "Cannot use federal money for swimmingpools" like VP Biden said, which are good strings, but instead a lot of future cost strings, which will cost the states in the end. Any governor with a longer term vision should say no thanks.

"Please share".. Trust me, Obama's new taxes on everything will "share it" alright. I am originally from a 68% top tax bracket and 25% sales tax area, where work and effort was worthless because all your money was "shared" to others. Obama will get us there soon enough.

My experience right now is, that paying my bills and my mortgage merely stamps me as an idiot. If I skipped a couple of mortgage payments, I could call my bank and get federal support for my mortgage like others are doing, many after putting themselves in trouble with No Doc mortgages. Being fiscally prudent has never been real popular, but in the Obama era, it is downright dangerous.

I unfortunately cannot say that I was raised that way. Rather I watched my constantly broke parents do all the wrong things, just like our government is trying to do now. I chose to do things differently because I saw the devastating effects of not managing your finances correctly, and did not want to live my life that way. I guess I should thank my parents for being financial screw ups, and showing me where not to go? But I haven't seen them for something like 25 years since I ran away from home to get away from that environment, so that would be hard. <a href="http://cantor.uopine.com/2009/03/12/i-am-proud-of..." target="_blank">http://cantor.uopine.com/2009/03/12/i-am-proud-of...

Aiiiihhh.. Don't get me started on having to pay off the mortgage of the people that lied on their mortgage applications because some idiots suddenly decided to start doing the "No Doc" loans, where you could just invest your own information for the mort. application. That will be a whole other blogging day. all by itself. http://cantor.uopine.com/2009/03/12/i-am-proud-of...

Obama is not savvy enough to stay involved with the international world. It is amateur hour at the white-house. The Europeans (of which I used to be one) are already disconnecting from him, because of his lack of interest and lack of knowledge. Only contacts I have seen was when he went on TV and scolded the other countries for "not doing enough", and his infamous DVD gift to the UK people, which caused quite an offense over there. Reading their newspapers online is very interesting. You would think that Obama's social agenda would give him a lot of support from countries that are traditionally more social in nature. But in stead he manages to offend and alienate all of them. http://cantor.uopine.com/2009/03/12/i-am-proud-of...

Obama only did that because it was an early Camera opportunity for his advertising campaign. We have not heard about it again since. If it was done for a real reason, Obama would not have to use it as a political opportunity to get on camera, as he did in the police cadet case. http://cantor.uopine.com/2009/03/12/i-am-proud-of...

Aaahhhh.. A person of my own heart. "Do not spend money you do not have". How often have I used that sentence with my kids over the years. One reason I have no debt whatsoever, other than minimum mortgage payments on my house. I even save up first for my new cars, and have not had a car payment since I was a teenager. People do not realize that if they can afford to pay car-payments with interest every month, then they can afford to save up for their car or other items. All it takes is driving that very first car a little longer than they really want. After that you are merely making "car savings" to yourself, and gaining interest, instead of paying it to a finance company. Do not spend money you do not have. Should be the rule for our government. http://cantor.uopine.com/2009/03/12/i-am-proud-of...
