For my response tonight I would like to respond to the question that was posed earlier today by the two ladies reguarding the question of why would It be harder for someone who is gay to tell their family if their family was also gay whereas if someone had gay parents it would be easier. For this I feel that its all about comfort. I mean think about it if some one had gay parents then the parents know where the child is coming from and they know what the child feels so then people who are gay could come out to their parents because they know that the parents would be more accepting of them and they would appreciate them more for coming out and having the guts to try to be excepted by the public. If some one who has parents that are completely strict to this idea it would be a lot harder because for them they feel like they would disappoint their relatives. They feel that they are different. When kids are small they are always taught what their parents think. If the kids are brought up in a family where they are constantly told that they need to think a certain way and in this case to think that gay is not the way then they are going to have a very hard time coming out because to them its just not right so they are going to live their lives in shame and they are not going to be able to live their life truly. If they have parents that are accepting of the idea and they grow up teaching their kids that it is okay to be different then they are going to feel that it is okay if that is the life that they want to live. They are going to feel that people are going to accept them and they are going to think that they can live their life the way that they want. I think for some reason people are just not okay with this gay idea especially the older generation I don’t know what it is but for some reason parents of our age just aren’t that open. They are still living old fashioned. I think this makes it harder for gays to come out and I think that it makes it harder for them to get accepted by their family. If people were more open to this idea of a gay lifestyle then people would come out a lot more. For some reason I feel that in the future gays will be accepted more and they will be able to live life the way that they want but fot now they are still in fear.

For this response question I would like to answer to the question that sam posted on the world in conversation website last night. He chose to talk about abduction and this idea of fear that people have in them about the world. His example that he used in class was this idea that people have a lot of fear in them when it comes to letting their children either walk to school or possibly ride their bikes to school. He talked about how people are so afraid of all these dangerous things and how the world in protryaed in the media to be this horrible place but in reality it is not. He had use respond to a clicker question about how many children do we think get abducted a year and most of the class said that they thought that about ten thousand people get abuducted a year by a stranger when in reality it is only about a hundred. For me this was shocking not going to lie when I saw this statistic I was almost sure to myself that he was just joking around. I couldn’t believe it, because yes the media does make it seem like it is a worse case than it actually is. The media makes people think that the world that we live in is a dangerous place. Growing up I was told to never talk to starngers and to never listen to them or do anything that they say. My parents almost installed this fear into me because they were always telling me to be carful and to watch out for me and my sister. I feel that this isn’t a bad thing though because to me you can never be too careful. You can always have security if that is what makes you feel comfortable. People that are protective over their children have every right to be, yes I get that the point of this was to let people loose and to open their eyes to the fact that maybe the world isn’t so bad but you know what part of the world is bad and what if your child is one of the one hundred getting abducted. I guarantee you that you would be outraged and heart broken and naturally upset because you don’t want that for your loved one at all let alone your child. I think that people are fine with the way they are I plan on keeping my child safe one day and there is nothing wrong with doing that honestly to me even that one hundred number is to much to me. I would rather not take the risk and just be safe rather than have my life ruined.

For my response this week I would like to take the time to comment on the video that was poseted last night about the question of why do people feel the need to talk to a pastor or a person of god in order to feel that they are more holy and why do they feel that they cant just talk to god themselves. To start off I couldn’t help but notice the black guy in the back dancing and I just thought that was funny. A little stereotypical yeh yeh get offended but hey its ok. I watched the video a few times just to watch that and not listen to the question. Anyway I think that people feel the need to alk to these people for a great deal of reasons. I think that the reasons that people talk to pastors is either for guidance. I mean I feel that some people really do want guidance and they probably feel that talking to a pastor makes them feel better like it’s a person that’s really goin to help them out. I think that people also talk to pastor because no offense but I think the church is a little to pushy. I mean people all their lives from the times that they are kids are pushed to go to church and to do right and not wrong and I just think that this is the reason. People feel that they have to go to church for this help and this guidance and the church makes them believe that they cant just sit down and do it on their own. I think that the church is a very pushy place and that its not very open minded. This is just my opinion obviously but I think that in some way shape or form I may have a point here. I feel that the church from the time we are little is very pushy and very judgmental. I feel that with this whole idea that the church is based on and the decisions that the church makes sometimes its very hard for people to be comfortable in church and talking to god by themselves. I feel that this is an area that most people choose to ignore because after all the church and god is this high holy thing and no one really wants to mess around with it but I kind of feel that its dumb because people were given free will. People are told even by the church that god gave us free will so why don’t we use this free will and just talk to god privately. Why have to go to a person of higher “power” and talk to them?

For this blog response id like to take the time and talk about the question of why people get offended if the situation does not apply to them. I feel that people now a days get offended really easily. I feel that for some reason people jus happen to think that whatever comes out of someones mouth that may be derogatory or at all offensive to anyone then they tend to jump down that persons throat. Why people do this I have no idea. Maybe it has to do with what stage they are in which we discussed in class over the last week. Maybe they are not ready to face the fact that people are different and people have opinions other than the person being offended. I feel that people are beginning to behave this way because they also realize that sam lets a lot of things fly in this class. Face it people what other teacher do you know that lets stuff like this go on. Take the poll before class as a perfect example. Almost everyday that that poll goes up people are always writing stuff that has nothing to do with the question. They start arguments up there and make comments that are just uncalled for. I don’t really understand it but I feel that its just people acting out. Maybe this is a link to why people behave the same way about these comments made during class. Notice how pretty much none of the Asians got offended besides the one girl which kind of pretty much proved the guys point but im not gonna even get into that right now. All of the Asians sat there and took the joke and saw the humor that everyone else saw. It’s the black people that get offended which is beyond me because what does that have to do with you. Im sorry but are u mad because were not talking about you for once? Call me an asshole but there is not reason why that black girl and the Hispanic kid had to say that’s a white people thing. That made me mad during class because the discussion has nothing to do with you yet you have to put your ignorant two cents in. I appreciate the imput but don’t point out the white guy for saying something then jump down his throat and make stupid comments like that. I mean one guy said it not all white people. Dude get over yourselves that’s all I have to say. It’s the same thing the opposite way wouldn’t you be offended if a black person said something then like 4 white people jumped down their throats and made It seem like it was to do with all black people?

For my resoonse today I would like to respond to the question posed by the gentleman of the 20th of this month. Ysterday he asked and stated that as children we are taught to look at people differently and understand their differences. He said that when we are in elementary school we are taught to look at people and understand why they are different. We are taught to see that we are not all the same. Then he stated that when we get older and as we get older we are taught to tell why we see these differences. We are taught to pretty much critical think and are questioned on why we see these differences. I feel like the kid is trying to say that when we are younger were taught one thing and then as we get older its almost like we are getting in trouble for thinking that. Its almost as if we are not alowd to be looking at people as different individuals and were are judging people and we ourselves are being judged for doing this. People are constantly telling us while we are little to look at people and understamd why they are different and then we are looked at poorly for thinking these things when we are older. I have had this experience happen to me as I am sure that others have had too. I was always told as a young child to look at people for their features and the way that they are different. I was taught to see that people are different in their special ways. As I got to college and even when I was in high school I was taught that this is racism and different types of negative things. It is honestly annoying because I feel that it is a double standard. I feel that people are kind of going backwards in thought maybe we should be taught all of the bad when we are little and maybe when we are older we should be taught all of the good just like we are being taught in this soc class that we are taking. Maybe we should teach kids when they are younger to not be so judgmental and to teach them that all of those things and ways of thinking are a bad thing. Maybe if we do this and then as we get older we have more classes like this then maybe we can have this role reversed. Honestly I think that by doing this then we will definetly have a better look on life and the world may be a better place to live and maybe people wont be so close minded about these types of issues.

This blog entry I would to respond to the question that was posed by Erik. He pretty much told us that he watches the twitter feed during class a lot and that he would like to take the time to talk about the feed on Tuesday. Apparently people were getting defensive when Sam was speaking during class. They were getting offended when he was speaking and making him see like he is anti war and anti this and anti that. I went onto the twitter feed after I saw this video because I honestly never really payed any attention to it. I saw what erik was talking about. I don’t really understand why people get so offended but if you were to ask me id say it has to do with the way people were raised. I feel that over the course of peoples lives they are raised to be very pro America and very pro our country. They are taught to be very patriotic and they are taught to have this mindset that we are the best country around and that’s how it shold be. I mean hey you cant really blame them. Even from childhood kids are always taught the American culture and American history. They are pounded with everything that has to do with America. Some kids even grow up in areas where America and American pride is all that people really know. They see the way people react and interact amunst eachother in our culture and the get this sense of pride. People flat out are raised amaerican in this country. You cant really blame anyone for this because its how it is. Schools teach kids different hings but they generally stick to the idea of American history and American culture. Kids are brought into this country and still have their roots but are bread for the way this country thinks and the way that this country feels. I understand that people get offended because you know what its just their pride. They are proud americans and they just want to show it and be top gun. Enough said really. Other people are jus ignorant yes I can agree with that but I mean hey what else can you really do people are going to be people and they are going to think how they want to think. With the system and the way that it is raising young people today you cant get mad at this mentality if anything it may be a posistive thing that people are reacting this way because it shws that people at least care right I mean its better than nothing you know? If anything lets just take it as that.

I guess that the entry that I would like to go with this week and ponder about this week is when the black girl in class said that all white people are evil. I decided to write about this today because im not going to lie when that girl said that I got really heated. It was early in the semester and we had just begun talking about this idea of racism and here we went right off the bat with a black person opening their mouths in a negative way about the white race. When she said that im not going to lie I literally wanted to jump out and call her out. I wanted to call her ignorant because in my eyes that was a very ignorant thing to say. It really was. She had no idea what she was talking about and she speaking based on pure stupidity and not any thought at all. This set a fire in my stomach because not all white people are evil and honestly I am sick of hearing that come out of black peoples mouths. I really am because no offense but wht did we do specifically to her that she can turn around and make a statement like that? Nothing she wasn’t a slave so whats her problem. Really that does piss me off. Like I don’t get how she can say that and think that it was an integgigent thing to say. My guess is that this idea of white supremacy is truly in effect here. Maybe sam was right in saying that white supremacy is everywhere. Maybe its really inside that girl and that’s what drove her to say that comment. I feel that a lot of whites were offended when she said that and im sure that a few black people probably bowed their heads down thinking oh my god I cant believe she just said that. Because that’s not right. Im surprised that sam didn’t freak out. I hope that over the course of the semester so far she became aware that whites are not as evil as she made them seem to be. I hope that she learned her lesson there. I still think about that comment from time to time and I hope by the end of the semester we can finally lay this rasist idea to rest about blacks and whites. Quit frankly its getting old and annoying. I hope that sam sets out a way to maybe make people forget about this idea and focus on working together and not always against eachother. I hope that in the semester we bring up this issue more so that way we get it out and leave it out.

I think that in society if we took the conversation seriously about race and class it would be difficult. By difficult I mean that people generally in my opinion don’t feel confortable talking about this topic. I don’t know what it is about this issue that makes people feel uncomfortable, but for some reason there is a reason that the issue isn’t brought up a lot. There is a reason why people choose not to talk about it. When you ask me I feel its because people just don’t feel confortable talking about this issue of race. People don’t feel that they can have this conversation. I feel that in times past it was easier to sit down and look at things like race and income and be perfectly okay with talking about it. Now for some reason people just have this inner scare in them that they feel the urge to just leave the topic alone and not do anything about it when it comes up. This blog to me feels very similar to me from that one the one that we had last week because to me it feels that this issue is ongoing constantly. I feel like this issue is never really truly going to go away because in society today I feel that people are so brain washed into thinking and believing what everyone else does. In this effect it causes people to be very suttle and not want to talk about these issus when they come up. I mean hey I honestly don’t blame them because everytime someone speaks their mind they get bashed. Look at the blog we have upfront before evey class that it anonymous. People all the time bash all the people from the class before that spoke their mind. Its like if someone doesn’t like something that someone else said then they jump down their throats without even giving them a chance to speak or explain themselves. In a way its messed up because people have a huge issue this day and age with getting offended by the smallest things possible. Oh my god one person said something that I don’t like, lets jump down their throat and teach them a lesson. The world unfortuantly does work that way and that’s what makes this a sad blog. I feel that no matter how much you try to change it, its not going to change because people are the way that they are and you cant do anything about it. That’s the problem with society today man its that everyone is so uptight about everything. Everyone is so edgy and touchy feely and honestly its becoming sickening like seriously people lets all grow up here.

This is for the creationalist perspective. Honestly im up in the air here. I really truly am not sure what I believe in. I mean to me I feel that both sides pose a good argument. I would have to say that people that call religion stupid are just flat out stupid themselves. Those that say that not having a religion is stupid are also stupis themselves. I feel that this topic is very touchy because there are ignorant sides here. Both sides are equally close minded and ignorant when it comes to opening their minds to the thought of something different and a different explanation on why things happen and how they are today. Me personally I sometimes wonder if there is a certain spirit persay that pushes use forward and was the cause to why we are where we are but then I see things such as war and evil and it makes me wonder well…. If god wanted us to be good and so is he then why is there so much evil in this world. Yes I get that he wanted freedom of choice and that’s all dandy but still think about how much different the world would be if we didn’t have all of these problems. This makes me sometimes think that hey maybe there isn’t a god and maybe everything should be attested to science and to evolution. I mean it would make more sense than some “power” that did this right? It strays me away from belief. It really does. Some of the stories in the bible just flat out don’t make sense and to me seem impossible. These thoughts drag me towards thinking that evolution is the reason we are here. When I think this way though I almost feel guilty in the sense that I went to catholic school all my life and im going against everything that I was taught. It scares me in a sense. I try to broaden my mind to look at both sides and the way that they both think. I really do. Sometimes I cathch myself being a hypocrite about different things. Either way I feel that everyone has a right to their opinion and they should do what they want to do. They should act the way that they want to act and believe in what they want to believe in. I feel that maybe that’s why we have free will, it’s the decision we have to choose how we want to think and think about what we want to think about, how we choose to go about it is on use and not one anyone else. To answer the question… I don’t know, im way to neutral.

I am going to take this weeks blog and answer this question on why do people avoid talking about race. Honestly to me this is so simple. Yes white people do avoid talking about race when they aren’t forced to do it. They just choose to sit back and avoid the conversation compleltley. They choice to kind of sit there and watch. Which is exactly what Sam was talking about in class on Tuesday. I honestly think the reason why white people choose to do this is because they don’t feel like starting any trouble. Blacks literally jump down white peoples throat whenever something is said about them. Get mad at me I don’t care but its true. Everytime you say one bad thing about those people they take the chance to jump down your throat and pull the race card. Frankly im sick of it. Its annoying because god forbid a white person speaks their mind about something. Its oh my god! What did you say and stupid shit like that. But if a black person says anything about a white person its okay and were just supposed to accept it. Its almost like we owe them something. Well news flash we don’t owe you anything. So quit sitting around years and years later and pulling the same crap when this country and this generation have come this far. Its really starting to annoy me. I know that almost every white person will tend to agree with me on this but they are scared to say something because they don’t want to start anything or get their throats jumped. So whites are just taught to stay back and keep your comments to yourself. This also annoys me because just like sam said on Tuesday, ometimes people need to be put in their place. Yes this goes for whites too but im mainly talking about blacks here. Hoestly get over it people. My opinion on this is pretty strong but yes I am one of those people that just sit back and watch because I really would rather not start with anyone because what will that prove? Nothing. So just like everyone saw in the classroom the other day… whites are just going to sit there and not say anything to anyone. I think yes its so nothing gets started but also to them its just not worth the argument. It really isn’t because no offense but it seems like the blacks are “always right” and were always wrong. Hate me for it, get mad at me for it, bash me for it, but sit there for a minute and truly think. Is that true? Ummm yes this is true. Definetly true.
