HGTV Dream Home : All About the Artwork

Thank you for posting about the artwork! And here I was freeing videos and zooming on photos trying to get a better look. The works by Tolman and Dererr are a fantastic touch and bring a nice warmth to the spaces. And that vanguard of a Shaman piece by Ley Powell is absolutely stunning. There really seems to be a kind of spiritual force behind those geometries. Surely, he will be given a name by the winners! Or better yet, invite the artist over for dinner and see if he has one in mind already :)

HGTV Dream Home : What's Your Dream?

Our dreams are many. We have dreams for ourselves, for our communities, for our country and for the world. Perhaps it's easy enough to say "Utopia", that's what I want." But alas, we have to begin somewhere, and somewhere is at home. We have choices; even if we don't always recognize them on where we live, who our friends are, how we think and react to events and circumstances in our lives, and even who we are as people,... as a person. To apply that to my own life and those of my family, I can say we are in many respects, living a dream. We are all healthy, hardly an hour goes by in any of our days when someone in this house isn't saying "I love you" to somebody else. We do the best we can in our chosen projects. And having spent most of my adult life as an artist, and having a wonderful wife and wonderful kids, well there really isn't much more to ask is there? After 3 years in Alabama (via Costa Rica -where we were for 3.5 years) I can also say it just isn't a good fit for our family, so it's westward ho! Win the house or not we're moving. So, can we consider that beautiful house full of so much energy and hard work on the part of so many a dream? You bet. It is exactly that: a new place, a beautiful place to sit down and share it all with myriad friends from all over the country and the world; a place for the young ones to grow up in a house we can call home. From there then, we let the dream grow into the community, and into the country, and into the world.

HGTV Dream Home : Blizzard at Dream Home?

Just imagine looking at that pic again and this time not on the internet, but as a pic you send to your friends with the caption: "We got snow today! Bring the kids! Hot cocoa is already brewing!" Now that would just be unreal! I mean we are grateful for what we have, and more than that even, the *opportunity * to have, and at the end of the day it isn't about what we have but who we have it with. I wish absolutely everyone the very best of luck. Somebody will move into this house and take a picture very like the one above, look at it with still lingering disbelief and say to themselves, "Yup. We live here." What an absolutely profound thing that will be.

HGTV Dream Home : Super Fan Has A Suggestion

Indeed Lessie, We're quite the dreamers here at the O'Berg household! Dreams of all sorts! Being artists ourselves (and Thalia is showing great promise too!) it's practically a past time. Imagination is a family trait, and so long as we can imagine being in a wonderful home, we're certainly up to the task. :) Speaking of dreams; Heather (my wife) just illustrated and wrote and children's book on flying dreams called, "Tonight I will fly." And what's more, I couldn't agree with you more on encouraging the little ones to dream but not hinge their very existence on it. After all, there is always a tomorrow, and tomorrows are for new dreams and adventures! Thanks so much for your response and caring thoughts. It is much appreciated, and good luck! All the best, Daryl

Thank you Lessie! How did I miss this? Thalia (my daughter) just LOVED it. I think she's more excited than we are! Every single morning she says, "Did you put our names in today yet daddy?"

Say, any chance of seeing the "playhouse" up close and personal? My 7 year old daughter is just chomping at the bit to see it! Thanks!

Thanks Gail! Let me tell you, all your work is greatly appreciated out here in Internet-Land! I find it so much of a coincidence that HGTV chose to build exactly the house I would build exactly where I would build it! *shrug* but then: I don't believe in coincidences. :) My wife and I are both artists and can truly appreciate not only the actual object d'art themselves, but the artistry that went into the entire design: from the flow of traffic in the home to the choice of materials, to that wonderful sense of a unified space while still keeping 'nooks' of privacy throughout. Love it!
