Winter Is Coming : More casting clues!

For clue number 1 (Lord), there are plenty of Lords that have little or no lines, although my memory is hazy about which have lines. Ones that come to mind that COULD be needed for season 1 are Lord Randyll Tarly, Lord Rickard Karstark, Lord Howland Reed, Lord Greatjon Umber, Lord Jason Mallister and Lord Tytos Blackwood. And does Berric have lines? Someone must know which of these have lines...

I think we have the correct actors, but the characters are both Sers! I still like the idea that the last clue refers to the person who is the FATHER of those three boys, as opposed to Ser Alliser.

Winter Is Coming : A mystery in TIA

I couldn't remember the scene in Rome from when I first watched the show, but given such a bold statement from Adam as "it was probably the most HBO thing HBO have ever done", I felt compelled to search it out. There was a little HBO show called "Tell me you love me" which blows that out of the water in terms of being the most HBO thing HBO have ever done. That is all.

Winter Is Coming : More actors, more auditions

I'm not sure if this point has already been raised at some point, but now that LOST has finished, is there a chance that some of the actors involved in that show could be looking for new projects? Although American, some would be of definate interest to me, in particular Michael Emerson or Terry O'Quinn, although I'm not quite sure what roles they may fit...

Winter Is Coming : GRRM interview w/ Mo Ryan; confirms Merchant out as Dany

Not only has the current season of Skins finished filming, it has also finished airing. Kaya has been the exception to the entire cast changing every two seasons rule, given that she appeared in seasons 1 and 2, albeit a very small role, as Tony's little sister. But I for one can only hope that she gets Dany. Very talented, looks young enough... would love to see some photoshopped photos with light (silver) hair. Plus wouldn't mind seeing her less some clothes... too far?

Winter Is Coming : Jory Cassel fans rejoice!

I got the impression that it contained some details that Mo Ryan was not at liberty to divulge at that point, and therefore she said that the full interview would not be available until later this week or next week. But given we are already into "next week", it shouldn't be far away. If my theory is correct, it could definately contain some juicy news...

Winter Is Coming : GRRM talks Thrones at C2E2

Agreed with the script page formula... although it could be when (and if) they start dealing with flashbacks, they may be more time consuming to make it easily understood by the average viewer. I seem to recall Rome episodes not being the full 60 minutes, but more like 55 minutes, and that;s including the overly long starting sequences, but without any "previously on" or "next time on". Do we actually know that we are getting 60 minute episodes, or are they going to be more around the 55 minute mark. Agree with most of your guesses for cuts, but absolutely disagree with cutting Rickon, he is far too important, and may become much more important to come (and its not like you can just introduce him later - HEY where did this Stark kid come from). Although they could just introduce him at the start and not show him for most of GoT. Everyone has their most shocking moments, but for me it was when I thought Bran and Rickon were dead - the whole innocent children thing.

But in saying that, they don't want to run into what I think is one of the major problems with Lost, that being that they will end an episode with a cliffhanger involving certain characters, then we don't get to see those characters at all in the next episode, and have to therefore wait 2 or sometimes 3 weeks before the cliffhanger gets resolved.

Interesting you mention the Dany issue, given a conversation I have just had with a friend of mine. I had recently introduced her to the books (as I have many others - see I'm doing my part!). Anyway, when she finished the first Dany chapter, she was so taken by her storyline (and I think Dany being young and vulnerable certainly helps in this regard) that she went and read all the rest of the Dany chapters in the book before coming back to the beginning again. As an aside, she then decided to read everyone else, one person at a time, which in my opinion would completely ruin the books. Has anyone else heard of people reading in this way? But my point being was that at the beginning, the Dany story is so compelling (possibly even more so for female readers) that I now think HBO has done a great thing by moving the additional chapter of hers forward so it fits into the pilot. If they can drum up plenty of viewers to watch the pilot by way of great marketing, then I think that having more of the Dany story in the pilot will help to "hook in" viewers for the series. Kudos.

Winter Is Coming : The script is the thing

This is what we have from Mo Ryan so far: * On Saturday, I interviewed George R.R. Martin, author of the book series on which "Game of Thrones" is based (he was in Chicago for the C2E2 convention). We talked for a long time about Martin's own experiences in the television industry (he spent 10 years working on "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Twilight Zone," among other projects), about the next "A Song of Ice and Fire" book (no, he's not done yet) and about his interaction with his devoted fans. * One little snippet from the interview, which should appear here later this week or early next week: "The irony of 'A Game of Thrones' and where we are now is, I wrote the books almost in reaction to my years in television," said Martin, who confirmed that he is writing the eighth episode of "Thrones" first season. "My scripts were always too long, they were always too expensive. I was always having to cut them. There were too many characters, too many matte paintings. 'We can't have all these matte paintings, we can't have this giant battle scene that you've written because we can only afford 12 extras.' "So when I went back to books, I said, 'I don't care about any of that any more. I'm going to write a story that's going to be as gigantic a story as I want. I'm going to have hundreds of characters, gigantic battles, magnificent castles and vistas -- all the things I couldn't do in television, I'm going to do in these books and I hope people like it.' So now here we are doing it for television. But fortunately it's David and Dan [David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the executive producers of the series] who have to figure out all the problems, not me."
