This is just a promotional stunt, and a successful one if we're reading about it on a news site from Seattle. No need to get our panties in a bunch about this being "wasteful"; we waste lots of resources just by being Americans. They do feed it to people, it's not like it's thrown into the dumpster when they're done cooking and weighing it.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Brightwater treatment plant set to open Saturday | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports,

This is a ceremonial 'grand opening'; the plant is still undergoing construction. Brightwater won't be operating at full capacity for over a year. Some don't think it will come close to paying for itself (even after it is up and running at full capacity). As far as the trails go, if walking within earshot of constant highway noise and looking at engineered 'natural' wetlands is your thing than you will love it! I personally despise spending tens of millions in self-aggrandizing 'mitigation' efforts. "We're King County.. Hey everybody, come see how green we look!" The technology behind Brightwater is impressive. It is a state of the art facility, but the necessity and practicality of it is very questionable.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Seahawks get more bad news with Gallery injury | Sports | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking Ne

Even Tom Brady would be struggling behind this inexperienced O-line. Gallery has underperformed up to now (perhaps his injuries are to blame, perhaps not) and he is the most experienced lineman we have. There's not a single person to take the blame for our record. Considering the wholesale changes that were made to go younger, this is obviously a building year. Coaches and management would never admit to such a thing, but it's true. Maybe they chose T-Jack because they figured his legs could keep him from getting killed behind a young line.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : State hit with $147 million surprise for new I-5 bridge | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather,

"Yeah but that is 147 million that has been spent, funding jobs for scientists, researchers, and other people associated with the study." $147 million Taxpayer dollars. The poster you are replying to has a point. The restrictions, regulations, and endless studies prohibit progress in many cases. Reasonable requirements are one thing, as they keep construction projects from destroying habitat and polluting excessively. But $147 million dollars on studies? Really?!! Why can't they use the previous studies from the I-205 bridge? Why start from scratch on every single project when there is precedences that can be followed?

I just drove on that bridge yesterday on my way to a job interview. One difference between Portland's MAX light-rail and Seattle's attempt at it is that the MAXX system gets a lot of use (74,000 riders per day as of 2000). Expanding MAX to Vancouver makes sense. I also saw at least a dozen bikes riding across the bridge (from the few places I could see them while attempting to drive in stop-and-go traffic). If I get the job I will probably live in Vancouver and ride my bike to work at least a couple days a week.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Woman attacked while jogging at Point Defiance Park | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News |

When my wife goes running at night I give her my folding "assisted opening" pocket knife and bear/pepper spray. The knife (A Kershaw Oso Sweet) fits in the palm of your hand and comes out with a simple flick of the index finger. The weight in each hand balances out and provides a small additional arm workout. Yes, it's sad that our world has come to this, but would you prefer the alternative? Women jogging in 'unsafe' areas should not wear headphones, as it is easier for someone to sneak up behind you. Also, make eye contact. Getting a good look at a potential rapist is a deterrent because it 1) shows you aren't afraid, and 2) makes you more likely to be able to identify him. I couldn't count how many times I pass a woman when I'm out running on a trail, I say "hello", and get no response whatsoever because she is either listening to an iPod or just conditioned not to seem inviting. It's not safer to ignore someone, just rude.

Are you talking about the Elliot Bay Bridge concept? That was proven to be unfeasible. WSDOT did look at it (only because enough misguided people complained) and it was obviously NOT a viable option. I heard the bridge proponent on Dori Monson's show and was intrigued. But soon after looking at the technical challenges it was obvious it was a pipe dream. Look at the facts in the following link. http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/NR/rdonlyres/7B735255-889...

I'm not a p***y driver and I love the snow. I love sledding with my kids, building snowmen, and having snowball fights. If there was to be a positive to this cool climactic pattern, it would be a cold snowy winter; although last winter was a strong La Nina and a no-show for snow. Maybe Seattle is just turning into the dreariest weather location on the planet... I need to move to Eastern Washington...
