The original AP wire story concluded with a paragraph describing the park's border fence as the long time meeting place of many family and friends and co-mingling of law-abiding citizens of both Mexico and the U.S. It also distresses me that covering sensitive plants with 1.3 million cubic yards of dirt to form this berm certainly couldn't have done this delicate environment any good at all. All this destruction and expenditure in the name of "operational control." shame, shame, Border Patrol and Homeland Security... This whole project is a textbook example of overkill.
