You knew the team had "made it" when Dick Vitale had nicknames for the players. It's worth pointing out that earlier that year about 20,000 UNI and Iowa fans filled the Dome to watch the Panthers beat the Hawks for the first time in three generations. Talk about energy in an arena ... I'm sure you remember. At that time it was a tradition that the UNI dining centers served steak and shrimp the day after a Panther team took down the Hawks or Clones. There weren't many of those dinners served, but when they were, it was sweet. Sounds to me like coach is not playing his son because he wants to, but because there are few choices. Basically admits that his son is overmatched against competition. If Iowa still had greyshirts like they did for Tom Davis, Lickliter would be one. Those greyshirts rarely played real minutes in a close game, and I don't think Lik's son would be either under normal circumstances.
