I grew up in Connecticut, live in Philadelphia, and I've been no where in the US outside of the East Coast.

I just posted this over on crosstalk before I remembered where everyone all ran off to. So! Everyone? What's your most favorite vacation spot in the U.S.? My husband and I have spent the last two years taking care of his sick mother, who just passed away in May, and we're ready to get away for a little while. We have sorta vague ideas ("oh san diego sounds like it might be nice") but nothing real substantial to go on. Any suggestions?

Is this tongue-in-cheek, or does the NYT not know who James Franco is?

Ugh! Just read about Victoria Jackson's homophobic rant on huffpo. Had no idea she was a christian right nutter:

"Did you see "Glee" this week? Sickening! And, besides shoving the gay thing down our throats, they made a mockery of Christians – again! I wonder what their agenda is? Hey, producers of "Glee" – what's your agenda? One-way tolerance?"

I'm not partial to any one particular genre and am usually willing to read anything that comes highly recommended by other folks who read. I suppose if there's anything I read the least of it's crime/mystery novels. For all their suspense and intrigue they always leave me feeling a little unsatisfied, mostly because I find myself racing through the book to find out whodunnit and why only to end up being like "oh". On the flip side of that, if anyone has a crime/mystery novel that they think is exceptionally good, I'd be up for checking it out. But yeah--I read everything.

You know, I was just looking at that the other day at Forbidden Planet. I'm not sure why I put it down, since it's been recommended to me more than a few times. I think I'll have to go out and get this one. Thanks!

You're lucky to have a back-up. The keys on my macbook pro are literally falling off, but I can't part with it long enough to let them fix it.

Just finished Janet Hobhouse's "The Furies" and am scouring the Amazon for what to read next. Any suggestions?

Dark Tide: The Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919. Stephen Puleo.

Just a drive-by book recommendation. Carry on.
