I cut through Lynnwood everyday and everyday at 200th and 44th I witness car after car...dozens of cars, coming to a full stop behind the line, wait for traffic to open and then make a legal right turn. I would guess 90% of those drivers get a ticket. This is no exaggeration and the city could not care any less when I brought it to their attention. My son is in middle school. I have a video from the bus where he was beaten by three other kids for ten minutes while the driver did nothing. We went to police and the district and a couple of the boys were suspended for a while and that's it. Since then my son has not been the same and will live with the event for years. Are we cashing in on this? Never. Unless she is applying those funds to help fix the problem (community programs etc) and not bank it for vacations of a lifetime, then I am really soured by the monetary aspect of this. Is she a victim, without a doubt. Cashing in and causing extremists to place thousands of threats and death threats against the youth is no better. They are kids, which equates to youth, which equates to stupidity and lack of moral and emotional maturity. While this is no defense it's a fact proven through time....hell forever in this country that our youth have had issues and we need to address them. Beer on job sites is part of the construction culture, right or wrong. Drink DURING working hours never occurred once during my time working construction and I worked every aspect from hanging siding to building half the roads in Bellevue as well as a good portion of the ground work for Microsoft operating heavy equipment. After the day was done though, it was social time and we would often sit on the back of the trucks have a couple of beers and talk about the job or whatever. If people showed up still bombed from the night before, and they did, they were sent home. Inspectors do make the rounds and they do fine on the spot if they find alcohol or an impaired worker. The fines are not small either, so I am also a bit surprised this is being called news. (unless this is taking place ONSITE during operational hours: zero tolerance) The ironic thing is that after building parts of Microsoft, I changed industries and worked there. It seems like one thing after another. Yes these people are in harms way when on the job they choose to fill. To time and time again, threaten, kill for no apparent reason, stop and search a guy who tries to explain he is having an anxiety attack and they just won't listen, well that's when things go south and fast. I myself have situational anxiety. Diagnosed, documented and I know how it feels like when you have to stand up and move around to get your breath; there is just no way to really get anyone to understand unless they have it. I also have a non-blood family member which is a cop that has caused problems because he convinced my wife I fit a 'profile' and was dangerous. I have had nothing more than a couple of traffic fines and been in two, count 'em, two fights when I was much younger, let alone ever even come close to harming a woman (and my wife?! NEVER). Yet he had the nerve to simply profile me and cause all sorts of problems.
