As an emotional eater, I have to respectfully disagree with Dr. Lisle on this issue. It's very complicated!

You are totally correct C.M. In Bright Line Eating they have a sister course called "Bright Line Healing" that I took this past summer. It was simply the best course I have ever took in my life. The woman who leads it is a master healer. It was beautiful. It addresses everything a 12-step program does and possibly even more. I completely agree with you-getting the food right and getting your head right are inseparable!!!! xoxoxo, Wendy

Hi Kirsten, Yes! I am very familiar with Glenn's work. I'm on his mailing list and I've even purchased his coaching package. I enjoy listening to the interviews he does with his clients. I think he has a very interesting approach that I'm positive works wonders for some of the people. It does not work on my personality or brain, but I love the concept of it! My only other thought is that for my personality, I found his recommendations for how a person devises their food plan to be far too open ended and lenient. Again, it's definitely something some people prefer to work with, just not something that has any lasting impact on me. The longer I work with private clients, the more I believe that everyone really has to find something that meets ALL of their needs--nutritional, emotional, social, psychological, etc. Oftentimes that's a combination of a few approaches. Hope that answers your question!

As soon as I saw your comment Kirsten I went right to my phone and began listening to the Robcast episode with Susan David. WOW! I just loved it. Such incredible stuff. I'm ordering her book right now and I'm sure I'm going to write about her observations asap on HGK. Emotions are at the root of at least 50% of all of our struggles with food. I love how Susan said just let our emotions be. Don't try to do anything about them. What sage advice.

Oy vey! But it's better to know these things and work within your constraints than to be oblivious to your own reality and flailing around!

Just saw this quote and wanted to share it with you Kirsten!

“We cultivate love when we allow our most vulnerable and powerful selves to be deeply seen and known, and when we honor the heart centered connection that grows from that offering with trust, respect, kindness and affection."

Hi Kirsten,I think my husband is as supportive as anyone without an eating disorder could be. Well, there are times when he mentions NMF or offers me things that I have no business eating, but it's rare. He's happy with all of the healthy food that I make because he loves it and wants to eat healthy. I know that this is not the case for many of my readers though. Most spouses are incredibly threatened with their mate wants to change something so fundamental like how they eat. It forces them to look at their own diet and to question whether they are making good choices, and folks don't want to go there. So they can get very negative. Doug Lisle has an incredible video about the whole subject from an evolutionary standpoint.

It's important that we understand the concepts that Dr. Lisle talks about, so that our relationships don't get unnecessarily stressful.

The other thing that I am a big proponent of is being vulnerable, especially with your significant other. If you can't do you 100% with your spouse, than I'd have to ask why? What do you think might happen? Are you embarrassed? Chances are if you watch Dr. Lisle's video and then asked your husband for a time that you could sit down and talk to him, he'd be quite supportive as long as he wasn't threatened.

Keep me posted!
