Re: Inaccurate and/or mis-representative coverage of the April 15, 2009 Tea Party Rallies

Dear News Outlet:

We, the undersigned, do hereby officially inform you that we take exception to the vast majority of news media coverage that our April 15th Tea Party rallies received by your network(s). While we do not deny that you have the absolute, Constitutionally protected right to free press, advocating false information, derisive commentary and contemptible nuance as fact is both slanderous and libelous. For this reason, we would like to provide you with some accurate details about our rallies:

The Tea Parties are non-partisan. We no longer trust Democrats or Republicans to represent our interests in Washington. The Americans in attendance represent a vast array of political views. We are aware, however, that many Republican politicians and hopefuls are attempting to speak out in positions of assumed endorsement. The Republican Party has been put on notice, by us, in separate communication.

The Tea Parties are not anti-Obama. While Obama happens to hold the office of the President during this tipping point, our concerns began during the last Administration, if not before. We have been voicing our worries for years amongst ourselves. The bail-outs, the obscene acceleration of government spending, stimulus, the current proposed budget, mounting debt and massive injection of public money into private enterprise exacerbated our consternation and we began to seek out like minded individuals.

The Tea Parties are symbolic. We are aware of the history of the original Tea Party. We are not protesting unrepresented tax on tea. We are speaking out against what we feel is irresponsible and mis-represented spending of our tax dollars, unconstitutional government meddling in private enterprise, and abnegating constitutional rights to unrepresentative international authority.

The Tea Parties are successful and widely attended. As the official numbers roll in from the thousands of parties across the Nation on April 15, 2009, the number of people who attended will prove to be in the hundreds of thousands – despite the midweek date.

The Tea Parties are not organized by rich conservatives. The rallies are organized by thousands of regular Americans gathering around kitchen tables, talking across fences with neighbors and joining local groups. These Americans, united by a common concern for our very sacred way of life, continue to find each other and unite on Regional, State and National levels. This is a grass roots movement in its purest form.

The Tea Parties are not a “Flash in the Pan.” We assure you there will be many more rallies, with many more Americans, demanding, in unison and with united cause, that our voice be heard.

We are well aware, that in any large gathering of people, for any cause, you can certainly locate a small percentage of attendees who are not in step with the spirit of the event. The mass majority of the audience, however, did peacefully yet fervently represent the voice of the movement which was a plea to our Government to hear and acknowledge our concerns. As informed, active and intellectually honest Americans with a choice of news agencies and sponsoring businesses to patronize, we demand that you act with integrity and objectivity and with the conviction your critical task as the fourth estate requires.

Regards,

Re: Continued action implying your alliance with, and endorsement by, Tea Party and other Liberty Minded Activists

Dear Republican Representatives, Senators, GOP Leadership, Congressional and Presidential Candidacy Hopefuls, and other Conservative Public Servants:

We, the undersigned, represent a significant body of Americans from across the nation who pay taxes in order to support your lavish lifestyles, pay your salaries, provide your health care and your pension, and in many cases finance your pork-laden pet projects to secure your re-election. You were hired to uphold the constitution, provide fiscally conservative debate, fight for limited government, endorse sensible foreign policy, uphold personal liberties, protect private property and engage in vigorous deliberation, representing OUR voices, to ensure all legislation is thoughtful and responsible.

It has not escaped our attention, over the past 7 years, that through bloated budgets, unconstitutional power grabs, bad policies, rushed legislation and generally irresponsible actions, you have not upheld your commitments and are, therefore, in breach of contract. As a result, many of you have been removed from your positions and The Republican Party has lost all power and majority in Washington.

As we look forward to the next election cycle, hundreds of thousands of us are choosing to voice our concerns, and will continue to do so, often in large, loosely organized movements such as the Tea Parties that you saw just recently. These movements are completely independent of party politics, as you no longer represent our ethics or the core principles this amazing country was founded upon. Despite this fact, many of you are speaking out and falsely claiming our values as your own, regardless of your past actions that are clearly in direct contradiction of our concerns.

It may be that despite our prominent outcries that we have not been properly represented, and that the party has left us, you are unaware that your voice is no longer illustrative. Now that you are officially on notice of our concerns, we ask that you respect our resolve and immediately cease and desist all implied connection to, and endorsement by, our independent rallies. The American people reserve all of its legal rights in the event that you do not discontinue your assumed representation.

Regards,

Text for the Open Letter to the Media:ACTION NEEDED

In the wake of the Tea Parties and their wonderful success, I have become increasingly more disgusted with not only the media coverage, but with the Republican Party as well. Honestly, I think the terribly biased coverage from the Mainstream Media was to be expected, but I am FED UP with the "same old tired and unrepresentative" conservative and Republican "leadership" (and I use that term loosely), seeing the potential of the Tea Parties and legitimate grass roots movement as their way "back in". It gets worse every day.

To give action to my frustration, I wrote an official Cease and Desist Letter and presented it to my local 9-12 group and about 3 or 4 other local chapters over the weekend. Since the sentiment was unanimous, we decided to add an Open Letter to the Media, go “Petition Style” and make a real statement that we ARE NOT stupid, we ARE NOT afraid and we WILL NOT stand for the status quo.

I just posted both letters on PetitionSpot and I really need your help to get signatures quickly so we can send this in and let them know we are serious.

SUGGESTION: I run a very large online community of artists. Artists, by nature, are freedom minded, combined with the fact that most artists are entrepreneurial or self employed, libertarian and constitutional values dominate the forums. I am a very loud "political" voice (I hate that word, but you know what I mean) and I constantly push how important it is for people to educate themselves, those around them. I am going to start a Book Club Forum within my community to read and discuss important books. Something that would help me, and others like me, is an area on this site where we could get banners. I admit I pilfered the snake logo and made an ad for the 3/13 party. Something else that would be cool is some widgets. For instance... I LOVE the Founders Keepers and would really like to have that as a widget on my site.

Reading a lot of these replies saddens me. America had become a nation of followers. Leadership is not encouraged or even taught to our children. They are no longer given the sense of competition and work hard to get ahead that was indoctrinated in me. I am and have always been a natural leader. Principles and values were instilled in me from my first memory. My parents and my grandfather taught me personal responsibility, allowed me to follow my dreams and most importantly supported me as I made both good AND BAD decisions. I have become a very successful adult in not only achieving the American dream through entrepreneurial avenues, but I have a very rich family life. Each failure in my life made me stronger and more successful.

So to bring it back around to the central message. The message is, we need to break out of the "tell me what to do" mindset that so many are stuck in, figure out what it is that each of us believes in and get the conviction to affect the people we interact with on a daily basis. You will know when you are at that point. If you do not understand the central message, you have some work to do on yourself. And that is FINE. Just find the strength within yourself to do it.

I, personally, have been "at that point" for about 6 months. It was like a lightbulb that flipped on when I got here. I continue to educate myself and my family, and we have begun seeking out and socializing with people of like minds. I know where this is going. It is exciting, and we are ready.
