GazetteOnline.com : It's good to be Steve Alford

I didnt intend to get too heated with you Mike but I think we can both agree that a record of 30-5 in the MWC is a lot different then 30-5 in the big ten. I dont feel that I'm snobby towards "mid major" programs, I really enjoyed watching UNI and Drake tear up "the dance" the last couple years and I do not mean to take anything away from those teams and what they accomplished. It made me proud to be an Iowan, because clearly the Hawks haven't done much of anything the last couple years. Honestly, I just dont like Alford. I do however enjoy your articles, keep 'em coming so we can argue about something else :)

The sun shines on a dogs butt every once in a while, but thats the great thing about basketball, on any given night, anything could happen, like the great game you saw in the NCAAs... There was only 4 teams last year in the Mountain West that finished over .500 compared to 7 in the Big Ten, and the MWC does not come close to the talant that the Big Ten has in the typical year. I've spoken with Alford multipule times while at Iowa and I think it's safe to say he was the most arrogant, self centered person I've ever met in my life. The guy didnt even show up at his own basketball camp...went 3 years in a row (99, 00, 01) and saw him one day. I feel like he used the phrase "do you know who I am" quite a bit.

But look at that amazing hair...he's just a rick pitino wanna be. 76-26 way to dominate your mid-major conference...look out Alford I hear Wyoming is going to be pretty tough this year...maybe someday you can come play with the big boys again.

GazetteOnline.com : POLL: Where do you want the Big Ten 2011 football title game to be held?

Chi-town - Football is a game that is played outside, by men. not a bunch of pansies that are worried about the weather in December. I would like to maintain the reputation as the toughest leauge in the nation by embrasing the terrible winters, not hiding from them in a dome. You know the boys at Florida and USC are too pretty to play in the snow and cold. Plus, Iowa always plays well in crappy weather.

GazetteOnline.com : Dubuque's Clarke College becoming university

First and foremost I graduated from Clarke College having said that I’m not much of a fan of this move --- cheap publicity stunt – the other schools in Dubuque are putting up new buildings and expanding academic programs and Clarke spends their energy with a name change making my overly price sweat shirts defunct and my resume confusing . It is a great school though.

I would take Stanzi over Prior, I may be a little biased though...Prior is a much better athlete but not a great QB…yet anyway If you look at what Stanzi the Manzi has done it’s crazy...He basically did not lose last year when in the game, He was owning Northwestern before he was hurt and the way he looked in the first quarter of that game I have to think he was going to keep pouring it on…or throw 6 INT’s and sneak it out but either way. Hopefully with the veteran receivers this year the INT's will stay in single digits. Can’t wait for 9/4/2010!!!

GazetteOnline.com : Only one Kinnick night game this season

I don’t agree with your whole "welfare of the players" thing. The big ten is going to start playing games in December now, so what's the difference in playing in snowy -15 degree weather at11am in Dec. vs. -15 degree weather at 7:30pm in Nov.? Saying that Kinnick will only be half full for a Nov. night game is crazy. The place will be rocking regardless of weather…Assuming that the Nov night game this year would be OSU vs. IOWA would make it extra crazy. Like the cold-rainy Iowa vs. Penn St. game a couple years ago. (Crappy weather but the best game I've ever attended) Iowa night games are a totally different monster, just makes it that much harder for a team to come in and play us. People seem to really go crazy during them, although that could be the drinking that starts at 6AM...Besides, if you’re cold, you will have 76,000+ of your best friends to keep you warm inside the stadium! CHANGE THE RULE!!

WISCONSIN would be my choice. the back and forth rivalry we have with them is not like any other...I think the all time seires is like 42-41-1 with the hawks in the lead...I would love to knock them out of a january bowl game and stick it to there fans at the end of the season...But then again they would never take that match up because they usually play "Powder Puff State" as the last game of the season.

Again, I dont live in Iowa. completely differnt market. you can hardly buy a 3 bedroom 2 bath house in Madison for less then $200K If you look up RN salary's in madison the pay range is 54K-78K.

You said it yourself, your not in the medical field, or have probably taken any type of medical course in your life. To say my wife does not earn the money she makes is just plain ignorant...apparently watching over a post op surgery patients life (maybe a family member of yours or god forbid you someday) 24/7 isn't in the same realm of as a doctor who shows up maybe once or twice a day, unless they are called to the room, in which time the Dr usually gets mad and blames the nurse for not being able to handle the issue, even if that nurse isn't certified to; for example, change a medication. I'm sure the other nurses can verify this...Not saying that the Dr profession inst an extremely important job, but in these economic times, I don't see Dr's changing any 80 year olds diapers. And how was I "tearing down the toughest profession" I wasn't saying the nurse's need a raise, I was saying they obviously need more help and a small pay cut for the Dr's could easily support a couple more nurse jobs. Learn to read before you start running your mouth.

I agree, $36k does seem too low. My wife is an RN and she made twice that right out of school, but she does work at UW hospital in Madison which is a whole differnt market (cost of living, etc...). I would guess a nursing assistant makes closer to $36K then a RN. I do agree that they need more nurses, and that my wife is extremely overworked ( Ex: no lunch or bathroom break on a 12 hour shift). She basically comes home from work and goes to bed only to do it all over the next day...she only has to work 4 days a week but usually spends a day and a half recovering from the prior weeks work...I know she loves her job but I'm sure she would like some help. Here is an Idea - maybe dont pay doctors $150 per hour and you can afford to bring on a couple more nurses!!!
