GazetteOnline.com : Hey, Hawkeyes: They say it gets a little warm in Tucson in September

From a Hawkeye living in AZ, don't worry about the heat. It may be a small concern for the tailgaters, but not for the team. There is almost no humidity here so when the sun starts to drop in the sky the temp falls dramatically. 100 degrees in Arizona is not at all like 100 degrees in Iowa. Fear not, Iowa 35 Arizona 17

GazetteOnline.com : No, no, no, RB controversy

Good stuff Marc. For my money one of the most impressive performances of the day was delivered by James Ferentz. I was concerned about the center position pre-season, but not any more. He not only supplied great push but seemed to embrace more of a leadership role pointing and communicating before the snap.

GazetteOnline.com : Hlas column: For Hawkeyes, being No. 9 is nice, but not necessarily noteworthy

Why not us? Why not now? While I appreciate the attempt to keep our feet on the ground, I am a fan and only the players need maintain perspective. I intend to continue to guzzle the kool-aid and enjoy every minute of it. This season may dictate the direction of the program for years to come. You can see the proof in the major recruiting grabs the Hawks have recently made over the likes of Ohio St., Alabama, Oklahoma etc. If this season goes the way we all hope with the final game a victory in Glendale, then we will just reload for many years. Cyrus Kouandjio would look great in black and gold!

IntenseDebate Notification <DIV dir=ltr align=left>My comment was meant to be in praise of DJK. Like the old saying goes \"when you get to the end zone act like you've been there before\" and that's what he did.And I love it that he wants to be the guy. </DIV>
<DIV>

The best part about that kick off return at Ohio State was the way he just dropped the ball and went right to the bench after scoring. No celebration, still work to be done. The Hawks will finish that job November 20th.

The greatest thing about sports for me is the temporary escape from all the political and religious dung that is being posted here. For a few hours on saturday we don't have to listen to all of this and we can just be Hawkeyes. Now you self important bozos have missed a good story about a good kid. Wish I would have stopped at the end and not continued to scroll down.

GazetteOnline.com : What if Sports Illustrated is right and the Ohio State-Iowa game will match 10-0 teams?

Good stuff Mike. I think my head may explode before the season starts. I was born and raised in Iowa City and have never been more nervous and excited for the season. I now live in Arizona and will be making the trip to Tucson to see a game that has me very much on edge. Hope to see all the Hawkeye fans posting here in Arizona in January!

GazetteOnline.com : Bowl executive: Political reasons kept Iowa from Fiesta Bowl

I work at a resort in Scottsdale AZ. Prior to the selection my phone was ringing off the hook with friends, family and friends of friends of friends checking availability. I can tell you that within the hotel industry here EVERY property was praying that the Hawks be selected for the Fiesta. The feeling here was that Junker "took one for the team" to avoid BCS controversy. I can't wait for September when the Hawkeye Nation invades Tucson.

GazetteOnline.com : An analysis for Iowa football odds

More often than not Vegas is right. That's why they are still in business, and business is good. They have a team of guys that do nothing but watch all the games, gather information and set lines. I heard somewhere that last year Iowa was the number one college football team against the spread, can anyone confirm? If true it might make a good read Marc.

GazetteOnline.com : Dividing up the 12 in the Big Ten

True, and well put. As it is often said, perception is reality. To be honest, the only reason that I looked up the Penn State records was an attempt to enlighten a few outspoken Penn State fans here in my office. They used the word dominant several times to describe PSU vs. Iowa etc. Just thought I would share my findings is all.

I'm not sure why there's a perception that Penn State is so dominant in the Big Ten and will stack an East division. Here is their record against the top Big Ten schools through 2008. I threw in ND as well just for fun. Penn State vs: Nebraska 7-6 Notre Dame 9-9 Ohio State 12-12 Wisconsin 6-8 Iowa 11-10 (of course we evened the series in 2009) Michigan 4-10 Michigan State 13-12

Take a deep breath if you can and imagine that none of the expansion talk took place over the last six months. No other conferences reacting and no wild speculation. The Big Ten just quietly added the fourth winningest team in the history of football to become 12, and will now have a conference championship. Celebrate the addition of Nebraska as the best addition that could possibly have been made. This is a huge get! Delany will be thoughtful and measured with any further expansion, which is just what we need.

GazetteOnline.com : Notre Dame in Big Ten mix?

Of course the Big Ten wants Notre Dame for many reasons not the least of which is a massive nation wide fan base. Notre Dame fans all across the nation would demand the Big Ten Network for their cable networks. I for one want sweet revenge on an annual basis. Please remember the Fainting Irish of Notre Dame 1953. If you are a Hawk fan and don't know the story look it up.
