When Barta says "potentially everybody" will be at full-strength, does that include Dace Richardson? Since the posts aren't numbered, Marc will have a fun time counting to 1000.

GazetteOnline.com : Nice numbers not doing it for fiery Vandenberg

Vandenberg exceeded my wildest dreams for this week. This game really came down to a couple of plays, mostly dropped balls, that were the difference between winning and losing. The national press will probably slap themselves on the back again and drop us in the polls again, but I would not want to be Minnesota next week and we will definitely be a tough bowl opponent. I was actually more upset about last week's loss than today's. I am extremely proud to be a Hawkeye fan and I am holding my head high.

GazetteOnline.com : Last Call -- Northwestern

Win, lose or draw, I am a Hawkeye fan and I am proud of this team. We have a tough play next week against Ohio State, but I will be cheering just as loud and hopefully in person. With all the naysayers giggling at our misfortune and slapping each other on the back saying "I told you so", I am not going to waiver in my support when my team needs me the most. If I lived near Iowa City, and I didn't have to work, I would be at the practice field cheering them on. Although we may not win, Vanderberg will look a lot better this week and be better prepared for his most important game against Minnesota at home. Go Hawks!

GazetteOnline.com : Last Call -- Indiana

Do we have to run every single first down the first three quarters to set up the play-action in the fourth quarter? This is like the third game in a row that the opponent has put 7 or 8 guys in the box and we kept running on first down for nothing, which forced us to pass on second down. I know that other teams are forcing Stanzi to beat them with his arm, but geez, we were so predictable that even my dog was hiding her head on first downs. I agree that Mossbrucker should be getting some game experience. He should have kicked the extra point on the last touchdown for sure. Maybe KF doesn't want to shake Murray's confodence any more.

The was one of the most Iowa clutch drives I have ever seen. It ranks up there with the Christiansen pass to beat LSU in the bowl game. I said it after the Penn State win - this will be Iowa and Kirk Ferentz's "Signature Season". Can we one of the next two games going away? Please? These close games are killing me. I hope that all the guys that got banged up today weren't hurt too bad.

GazetteOnline.com : Look for Iowa to probably be 6th in today's BCS standings

I love the fact that Iowa continues to fly under the radar despite being undefeated and solidly ranked in both the AP and BCS standings. Maybe Boise State and Cincinnati are running a little interference for us. Barely beating UNI and Arkansas State may have been the best things that could happen to Iowa because it may have led our opponents to take us less seriously. When those clowns doing the ESPN commentary were running their mouths about how Iowa should be 3-3 and about how "they are who we thought they were" I wanted to reach through the TV and slap them. They were still running their smack all the way into the fourth quarter.

I continue to have a really good feeling about this team. We are playing one of the toughest schedules in country and continue to get the job done. The defense is worth the price of admission by themselves and the offense it starting to click. Our opponents are playing run first and forcing Stanzi to beat them with his arm. After the Wisconsin game, we may get a little more room for our running backs. I said it after the Penn State game - this could be Kirk Ferentz's Signature Season.

GazetteOnline.com : It's not easy being the Stanzi

I think fans are frustrated because we know that Ricky is the missing piece of the puzzle. We have won all the games so far this year, but to achieve everything this team is capable of, we need to reduce the catastrophic errors on offense. We see glimpses of what could be and we are greedy enough to want it all. I guess the good thing is that no matter what happens in the first quarter, this team and its QB have the confidence and poise to come back. It feels like every game the offense gets a little closer to clicking, but until Ricky starts making teams pay through the air opposing defenses will keep overloading against the run. Hopefully Moeaki's return will be the key to jumpstart the air attack.

GazetteOnline.com : Last Call -- Michigan

I agree with you about Rich Rod. He looks like Bobby Knight reincarnated. I thought he was going to grab the WR's helmet and shake him after he missed a block. Would you want that A-hole screaming at your 19-year old son after every play? Maybe we are just spoiled with KF. I respect Jim Tressel alot for his demeanor as well. I remember a catch early on that was reviewed and overturned because Stanzi took forever to get the next play off. I remember yelling at my TV - hike, hike, Hike, Hike, HIKE, HIKE!...whistle --@#@&%$@@$ We have to be more aware of what is going on. The receiver needed to tell Stanzi to hurry up and get the next play off - even if it was a hand-off for zero yards. Overall - I think the game against Arkansas State did help prepare us for Michigan and I am going to need to start blood pressure medicine if we can't start putting some of these teams away.

GazetteOnline.com : Recruiting board reaches 16

I like that Iowa has the integrity to stick to their commitment (offer) when a prospect gets injured. I think honesty and integrity goes a long way, maybe not with every recruit, but it does with the kind of kids we are trying to sign. Unless something crazy happens, D'Andre Johnson isn't likely to play as a true freshman, so he really has almost two years to get healthy. B.J. Lowery could be another diamond in the rough. I am feeing pretty good about this year's class, but I would feel really good if we can sign A.J. Derby. All Iowa can do is keep winning games. I know A.J. was watching the Penn state game and he had to be moved by the stirring win.

GazetteOnline.com : Last Call -- Penn State

Iowa Hawks and Indianapolis Colts - Two teams with many similarities I can't but help have a sense of Deja Vu watching the game against Penn State and remembereing the Colts Super Bowl victory over Da Bears in 2006. In a constant rain storm Devin Hester ran te opening kick-off back for a touchdown. The Tony Dungy coached Colts took the groin kick in stride and their defense slowly brought them back into the game with the aid of constant QB pressure and several interceptions. The Colts have a reputation for remaining unflappable no matter what happens. This years Hawkeye team is showing the same quality. Other similarities/links: Current Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell played defensive back 4 years for Iowa and was an also assistant coach; Bob Sanders and Dallas Clark; both teams have a bend but don't break defense that has stepped up another notch this year; both teams are undefeated in 2009 after nearly losing their first game of the season; both teams had very impressive road wins last weekend; both midwestern corn belt "small market" teams. Now if we can just get Stanzi to start playing like Manning...

After pacing all over the house, jumping up & down and screaming my head-off Saturday night, I tried to explain to my non-sporting wife the feeling of contentment I had all day Sunday. Here is what I came up with - Basking in the afterglow of winning what could prove to be one of the biggest games in recent Hawkeye history feels almost as good as the afterglow of something else (not PG rated), but it lasts a lot longer. I can't wait until next Saturday :)

GazetteOnline.com : Young runs

We are so stocked a running back right now, including the two new commits, that I can't possibly see any remaining offers committing. It is a little ironic that when get the best advertisement in recent history for a running back to commit to Iowa (see Shonn Greene story) our cupboard is alredy fully stocked. By the way, have you looked at the number of former Iowa players that currently play in the NFL? http://espn.go.com/nfl/college/_/letter/i At 24 players we are holding our own with the bigger programs. With a monster year in 2009 and hopefully a New Year's Day bowl win, we could be set up to continue the recruiting momemtum next year. List of lifetime Iowa players in the NFL: http://www.databasefootball.com/players/bycollege...
