KOMO - Seattle, WA : King Co. Council looking to stem the tide of human trafficking | Local & Regional | Seattle News, We

The human trafficking victims I worked with internationally were often held hostage in houses/places of work for years at a time. These scared, very young (often in their teens) women are not out with driver's licenses or on welfare.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Elderly woman among those pepper-sprayed during Occupy march | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weat

I'm in my twenties and yet was raised by my now 93-year-old grandma, who survived the dust bowl and great depression. She taught me everything I know about frugality, hard work, honesty, and work ethic. I feel so fortunate to have been given such an amazing teacher and the opportunity to work from an extremely young age. However, I hope you are not teaching your children that if they work hard, they will be able to afford to build their own house and live a good and stable life. Bad things happen to good people. I came back to the US after working oversees expecting good opportunities. I had great work ethic, an education, and managerial experience. What I got was 25 hours a week at minimum wage. If hard work was all that was required to live a good life, how wonderful the world would be!!

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Bellingham couple sentenced in connection with harboring, illegal employment | Crime | Bellingham Ne

I'm pretty ashamed of the majority of the comments here. All everyone cared about was the fact that these people hired illegals, there has been very little mention of the fact that the couple enslaved a vulnerable woman who was just looking for a better future and verbally abused her. How horrible would that be to go to the Land of Opportunity, albeit illegal, to find abuse and fear instead. It's this lack of empathy that allows human trafficking to be such a huge and common problem. I have worked with victims of human trafficking in multiple countries and most are women and children. Are we not all humans, all created equal? Have a heart.
