West Ham Till I Die : Match Preview: West Ham v Doncaster Rovers

Well said GG. Good to see someone has something a little more positive to say about Nolan. I understand the frustration expressed in some performances but too many on here forget the fact that he is the second highest scorer in the team (8) after Cole with 9. We are quick to have a go at the press for not letting facts getting in the way of a story, but are we not as bad sometimes?

West Ham Till I Die : Happy Endings

With the news that Portsmouth may not be able to complete the season, the most important stats to consider is how that will affect our position in the division. As I understand it, any points or goals gained / scored will be deducted from teams totals.

West Ham Till I Die : In Conversation With David Sullivan (Part 5): "No Decision Yet On Olympic Stadium Bid"

Iain, thanks for your insightful reports following your interview. A great job, well done! Thanks too should go to DS for being as frank as he could have been on most subjects including the OS debate. I was in favour of the original bid to go to the OS as the reasons for staying at UP are purely emotional. A sense of history and atmosphere. Not easy to dismiss but can we afford the luxury of history alone? The OS on the other hand is a decision of the head. A new arena, a vastly superior infrastructure, a great attraction for new supporters and players alike. Financially a good bet for gaining better sponsors, improved marketing possibilities and not least, more seating to fulfil our future requirements. But the change to a tenancy agreement with restrictions could sway the argument back to UP. Until we know the detail of this arrangement and whether there are alternatives such as an enlarged UP with an improved infrastructure, the jury is out. What we cannot afford is to do nothing.

West Ham Till I Die : Monday's Rolling Transfer Rumour Mill

As a postscript, I can distinctly recall (too many years ago) buying a programme at the beginning of a season when you would get a photo of the first team squad. It was spread across the middle two pages, with the team proudly posing in three broad ranks, taken by a camera with a panaromic lens. Today, you could take a photo of the squad with my grandad's box brownie....that's progress for you :S

West Ham Till I Die : Monday's Rolling Transfer Rumour Mill

I agree that it would be a shame to lose any academy player who could make it to the frirst team squad. Likewise it would be better to say goodbye to any first team player not meeting the standards required. But it is difficult to sell your worst players to another club, they are just as able to see their weaknesses as we do. Conversely it is, of course, much easier to sell emerging talent. You point out those who have gone but are they getting regular first team football? In the cases of Hines and Stanislas they are not even though they are at a less successful club. Finally, as we are now restricted in the size of the first team squad and the number of subs, the opportunity to use / keep the sort of squad we had in the past is not possible, let alone the ability to afford them. So the sad fact is that the club has to be more demanding of those who aspire to make the grade. Regretably, it is a tougher trade today

Amazing talent....never missed a goal scoring opportunity in al those clips from You Tube :) Oh well, it is a good way to start the week even if reality will kick-in by lunchtime! On a more serious note, at least he seems to have some talent in front of goal and has played at a reasonable level, so who knows what he may do for us?

Many thanks for that post Ade Coker. I was a lucky young boy as my dad worked with a friend of Ernie. Subsequently we got free tickets from time to time and hence my allegiance to WHU was forged forever. RIP Ernie from a very grateful supporter to a greater servant of West Ham Utd.

Sound post SH. We definitely need cover for Taylor and the right flank too. We must add pace and creativity to our midfield to support Cole and Baldock, who are good enough to stick in the goals in this division. I would be delighted if one of these positions could be filled by one of our youngsters, particulalry as we are getting back to a full strenth squad who can support a new frist team player. Do we need another striker? No, unless we can unload Piq and Sears / Carew and so justify the need for experienced cover or an alternative type of player. BTW the Millwall fan deserves a free ticket to watch us - he seems to have more confidence in our team than many who post here :)

AG you really ought to read the KUMB article in the link below. If that is not enough information, try reading the last financial statement that you can download from this story. Perhaps (a faint hope) you may see the light and be less critical of the"frugalaity" of our owners and concede they are doing their best to turn round the years of profligate spending. http://www.kumb.com/story.php?id=125931

West Ham Till I Die : Transfer Update Monday 16th

That is precisely my point Lenny. The Norwich and Southampton teams have had a season together and enjoyed success under the guidance of managers who have instilled a structure and discipline that has bred the confidence they have shown this season. Sam came to WHU with a team of low esteem and had to strip out a lot of poor performers and reduce the wage bill. QPR decided to add quite a number of players and they have shown an inabilty to gel. So in my humble opinion we are in a very different place to QPR as our current position shows.

I don't dispute that and very good luck to them. But we are where we are - in other words considerably further back in building a team that can achieve that level of play. The priority is promotion and if that means compromising flair, personally I can live with that. What I do not want to see is the kind of defending and lack of commitment from the team we had last year. Tha fact is we are joint top with the 2nd best GD and 8 away wins (just 3 last season) and that is sound progress from any point of view, isn't it?
