Since you asked, here are my thoughts: 1. Secure the borders. 2. Get rid of all government entitlement programs which are bankrupting our country (but keeping Democrats in perpetual power). 3. Figure out who's already here. Criminals get deported. Others have a choice: serve several years in the military, pass a language test, and become a citizen. Otherwise, go back home. Part of the reason we have this huge problem is that the government has purposely looked the other way for many years because cheap labor helped fuel business and agriculture. Part of the problem is that our economy is still dependent on the cheap labor. If theoretically we deported everyone tomorrow, what would happen to the price of lettuce ($20/head?) and thereby the stock price of McDonald's? I'm not saying I have the answer, I'm saying that these are some of the questions.

Although, I will say that I do agree with the larger point. Embracing immigration has helped make this country the greatest nation on earth. We should continue to allow immigration; it's just the way we go about it. I've heard one proposal to grant citizenship to any Mexican who has no criminal history, agrees to and successfully completes 3 years of service in the U.S. military, and passes an English test prior to becoming a citizen. Yeah, everyone wants to come to the party. And let them! But not helter-skelter. Require them to have some skin in the game.

So apparently, if a gay person is assaulted and killed by straights, they become a martyr, a political symbol, and a litmus test for political correctness. If a straight person is assaulted and killed by gays -- a minor, no less -- it is hushed up by the media, ignored by the liberal politicians, and the public is deprived of even knowing about the occurrence of such crimes.

Exactly. When the Irish, Italians et. al. were allowed in, we didn't have this massive FDR/LBJ welfare state behemoth keeping the government printing presses busy. To unrestrict immigration at this point, with the Ponzi scheme of our entitlement programs the ticking time bomb that it is, would be asking for unmitigated diaster. Do you really think the 50% which do not pay taxes will ever vote to end their entitlement programs? Do you think the political party which throws your tax money at them like candy will ever stop doing so and risk losing their cushy Congress gigs? Unfortunately, the landscape is much more complex than it was in 1880, or even as recently as 1970 (which is when my parents became citizens). We are already a disaster waiting to happen. Take a look at California. That'll be the entire nation before long. (i.e. bankrupt). Congrats -- it's not often I disagree with a Gregalogue! ;-)

"Go frontier" -- I love it! I live in the San Francisco Bay Area (Pelosi country), and after Obama won in November, I put the following two bumper stickers on my car: - "We're Screwed '08" - "Palin 2012" (with a stars-and-stripes moose) The first time (way back in January) somebody honked at me on the freeway and gave me the thumbs-up, I couldn't figure out why honking at me. The next time it happened (sometime late February), they also pointed to my bumper stickers. I finally figured it out they were honking at my bumper stickers. It's becoming a more and more frequent occurence that someone will honk and give me a thumbs up when I'm on the road. The most recent was just two days ago. Palin stock is rising in inverse proportion to Obama stock. I absolutely love her and would follow her to the gates of Hell.

See, YOU believe that I am wrong, and this aggravates you so much that you feel the need to attack me. What, are you going to try to browbeat me into subscribing to your world view? That's a pretty fascist attitude, dude. "Compatibility" is another way of saying "similarity" which is another way of saying "not the same". Can we agree on this basic tenant, or are you going to continue to insist that "compatibility"/"similarity" means an apple is an orange (and attack me for saying that an apple is not an orange)?
