Amir Bar-Lev’s film missed the ”untold story” that both the Democratic Congress and the Obama Presidency have intentionally protected General Stanley McChrystal from scrutiny and punishment for his central role in the cover-up of Pat Tillman’s friendly-fire death. This cover-up was a thoroughly bi-partisan affair. It wasn’t just a case of the Bush administration and the Army stonewalling the Democratic Congress. Congress didn’t just “fumble” the ball, they threw the game. Just before the 2006 mid-term elections, Kevin Tillman published his eloquent letter, “After Pat’s Birthday”. Kevin had hoped a Democratic Congress would bring accountability back to our country. But, just as with warrantless wiretapping and torture, those responsible for the cover-up of his brother’s friendly-fire death have never been held accountable for their actions. As Stan Goff mentioned above, five weeks after Tillman's death, the Army announced that Pat was "probably" killed by friendly-fire. Pat's brother Kevin was in the same Ranger platoon that was returning home. Someone would have spilled the beans to him sooner or later. Besides, the fratricide was an open secret. I talked to a Special Forces medic who was in Afghanistan at the time, he told me he had heard about it before the memorial service.

It you've want to dig a bit deeper into Stan's role in the Pat Tillman whitewash, take a look at Mary Tillman's revised edition of her 2008 book "Boots on the Ground by Dusk" (she's added a Forword and about 50 pages to update the book, go to http://www.blurb.com to order) Hopefully, the documentary "The Tillman Story' will be released on August 20th. Great movie, well worth seeing, with the Tillman family telling their side of the story. However, Amir Bar-Lev missed what I call the "untold story", how President Obama and Congress covered for McChrystal. I lay out that story in my Tillman files at http;//www.feralfirefighter.blogspot.com. I'm working on a new document now, but there's plenty of other material there from the past few years.

Yeah, Stan McChrystal will do just fine. it was a travesty of justice that President Obama (with the help of Senators Webb, McCain, Levin, etc.) promoted him to the Army's highest rank and awarded him his fourth star .... while the Tillman family got a tarnished Silver Star. Thom Shanker at the NYT and Andrew Exum at CNAS played a part in covering for McChrystal as well.

If Krakauer had dug a bit deeper, he could have known of those facts (pissing off the Tillman family so they didn't cooperate with his book didn't help matters either). Just after Krakauer's book was published, my aunt hand-carried "Lies ... Borne Out by Facts, If Not the Truth" to Krakauer at a book signing. Krakauer used some of my information in his Daily Beast article (10-15-09) "McChrystal's Credibility Problems" http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/20.... I agree with you not a bad book for the most part. Although I think he didn't really paint the best portrait of Pat. Gary Smith did a better job with his Sports Illustrated "Remember His Name" (9-11-06).

"Since the film presumes to stand on its own I have taken it at its word and report only what the film and its accompanying publicity materials show." Well, it's a bit hard to fit all the details of a six-year story into a 94 minute film. Why not try reading Jon Krakauer's book or Mary Tillman's excellent, personal account "Boots on the Ground by Dusk"? (a revised paperback version with more on General McChyrstal's role will be published at blurb.com on July 31st). This is one "conspiracy" that becomes more obvious the more you dig into it. Read those books, then come back and say there's nothing to it. Or take a look at http://www.feralfirefighter.blogspot.com if you want to take a closer look at the untold Tillman story, not covered in either of those books.

Just before the 2006 mid-term elections, Kevin Tillman published his eloquent letter, “After Pat’s Birthday”. Kevin hoped a Democratic Congress would bring accountability back to our country. It’s not surprising that after the initial cover-up fell apart, Army officers and the Bush administration lied to protect their careers. But after they took control of both Houses of Congress in 2006, the Democrats could have gone after those responsible. Or at least not promoted them! Five years ago, Pat Tillman’s family were handed a tarnished Silver Star. It was a travesty of justice that General McChrystal was promoted to the Army’s highest rank, and handed his fourth star.

In his book, “Where Men Win Glory,” Jon Krakauer blamed only the Army and the Bush administration for the cover-up of Pat Tillman's friendly-fire death. Amir Bar-Lev, the director of the forth-coming documentary “The Tillman Story” emailed me that “he was pretty hard on the Democratic Congress in his film.” However, both Krakauer and Bar-Lev missed the untold story that the Democratic Congress and the Obama Presidency protected General Stanley McChrystal from punishment for his central role in the cover-up of Pat Tillman’s friendly-fire death (and they promoted McChrystal twice!). The cover-up was a thoroughly bi-partisan affair The documents posted at http://www.feralfirefighter.blogspot.com describe how General McChrystal has been protected by Congressman Henry Waxman, Senator James Webb (along with Senators Carl Levin and John McCain), and President Obama. In addition, the media was complicit as well. The New York Times Reporter Thom Shanker “exonerated McChrystal from all wrong-doing and the Center for a New American Security's (CNAS) Andrew Exum wrote a book review ridiculing the idea of a conspiracy to cover-up Tillman’s death.
