HGTV Dreams Happen: Sweepstakes Blog : What's in Your Fantasy Laundry Room?

Lotsa folding space, hanging space and storage. Having art etc. is very low priority. I'd like to have a large sink and maybe even a shower for washing pets and large items (fridge bins etc.). This would be better downstairs off the mud room though (or maybe part of the mud room).

HGTV Dreams Happen: Sweepstakes Blog : HGTV Dream Home 2014 Winner Announced!

I like the ambush at work. That way you don't have to worry about whether you or your home aren't spiffed up for TV.

Design Happens : Defend the Trend: Do You Think Graffiti Is Hip or Hideous?

It might work in a basement game/play room and maybe even an entryway but it's too busy for a room where people spend a lot of time or want to relax in... at least people over the age of 25.

HGTV Dream Home : A Closer Look at the Doggie Dream Home

That's why it's "on or about" March 12th. They have a buffer if for some reason they can't find you. The ambush doesn't have to be at your home. One year it was in a restaurant.

HGTV Dream Home : Kitchen Design and Storage Details

The storage in the mudd room looks substantial. I love the sink in there too, being able to wash off after gardening etc. before going into the house would be cool. There's loft area in the garage too but it looks like it would need some work to make it useable.

I'm not sure those light wood floors throughout are my dream floors. With all the windows and the snow outside, I think I'd prefer something a little warmer looking and feeling. They make a nice contrast for the darker furniture, cabinets etc. though.

Some couples might be willing to forgo normal couple activities in exchange for the free room and board which can be quite expensive in touristy areas. You could find some privacy for those activities out in all that wilderness in the summer. Even in the winter people are going to be out and about a lot so you could probably sneak back in for it.

The difference between the cash option and taking the house is 850K but I think I'd take it to avoid the hassles/unknowns. The cash option value is $1,201,120. Pay about 480K taxes on that (at 40%)and walk away with about 720K and the vehicle.

HGTV Dream Home : Super Fan Has A Suggestion

It's a dry heat. 90 in the intense humidity of South Florida and 90 in dry New Mexico are a world apart. But 90 is about the upper limit of comfort even with low humidity in my estimation so it's cutting it close given global warming. It's good that it's designed to make it easy to install later if need be.

Friends outside of Sante Fe tell me rattlesnakes are common in that area. You're much more likely to encounter one than a bear if you're out walking in wild areas and around sheds/barns etc. But they have never seen one in their yard and have only heard a couple of reports of others encountering them there . They say coyotes are a more likely threat to cats/dogs.

HGTV Green Home : Got a Green Resolution?

Those are pretty big Plymouth rocks in the picture! Did they dig those up there or haul them in? We've acclimated to keeping our thermostat very low but we're noticing that some of the cost savings is eaten up by the water heater having to work harder. It's in an enclosed area with a lot of pipes so it's not feasible to insulate. We're planning to replace it with one of those tankless water heaters but have been waiting for some of the better tax breaks that are rumored to be coming since the front end costs are quite a bit more than the old style heaters... and this one still does the job.
