CGBlog.org :: An Unofficial Coast Guard Blog : The Coast Guard Academy: Keep it or Dump it?

The cost may be high, but did the author consider the 5-year military commitment (correct me if I'm wrong) required of the cadets/midshipmen? It costs money to train people, regardless of the college degree. OCS provides us with Officers that had strong leadership qualities to begin with. OCS candidates wouldn't make it into the program, let alone through it, if they had no leadership abilities. The Service Academies take the time to teach leadership qualities to those people who may not have had them to begin with. I'd like to hear more about the degree not meaning squat. The majors offered are useful on the outside, is it the Academy's name that isn't any good? I knew the football team wasn't on par with Army or Navy, but academically? Maybe that's for another post.
