Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : If you've read the 5000 Year Leap then you know ...

My beef with anyone in the political arena - Right or Left or Middle - is the inability to take responsibility for their screw-ups. I, like most people, do not hold malice in my heart for any person - even if they cut me off in traffic. My question to you is why do you have a large, Democratic (see liberal) chip on your shoulder? I don't care what party affiliation you hold. That is not the measure of a person. You can make your point, as your other 140 posts adequately tell me, without lowering your own standards of "de-lousing."

For those who are still having trouble with the type of governance that our country was founded on, it is -not- a Democracy. It is a Republic. Our elected officials do not hear what the people have to say. They do listen, but the message gets lost as they try to figure out how best to make every situation a win for them and a loss for the other side. Unfortunately, the people lose either way. @chuckflynn - You are correct when you state that Republicans were corrupt. That is neither a failure on their part nor a success on the Democrats part, for the Democrats were corrupt, as well. Two wrongs do not a right make, yes? There are examples of impropriety on both sides of the political spectrum. No one holds a patent on screwing up.

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : Card Check Bill Dealt A Blow By Senator Spector

By the way, $31 an hour is more than a Florida public school teacher, with a Bachelor's degree and 10 years of service, makes per hour ($28.78 in Okaloosa County.) And that is a Union wage. Remember that the next time you visit your child's classroom for an Open House Night. Ask my wife what she thinks of Union's and you'll have a different understanding of how Union's work. And please don't respond with disparaging remarks re: the difference between Construction and Teaching.

Let me know what you think of the deal when your company sends out a memo telling all employees - union and non-union - that they can no longer compete in the current marketplace and are closing up shop in the U.S. and opening up a new operation in Mexico (or elsewhere.) That is the end game of the Card Check legislation. Union bosses - who never once turned down a payraise - are the cause of many good U.S. businesses closing. It is quite simple to "help" any business that is not paying a fair wage wise up. It is called publicity. Any worker with a brain would not work for a company that did not pay their workers properly. If Union workers cannot see that their Union leaders are just as greedy as the next guy, then that is their own fault. How much is enough?

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : The 9/12

What is the FairTax plan? The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue replacement, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment. This nonpartisan legislation (HR 25/S 1025) abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax -- administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities. The IRS is disbanded and defunded. The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.

Say what you mean and mean what you say. We say a lot of stuff here on this comment page, but who actually lives their life according to Principles and Values? I have my problems, just as you do. We expect our elected officials to live by a standard that we ourselves don't live by. Hard to expect different results than what we get, isn't it? That certainly doesn't mean we don't try hard to do the right thing and live our lives without going out and taking what doesn't belong to us. Our government has been doing just the opposite for years. They just get blatantly more arrogant about their 'right' to do so.

Patriotism has nothing to do with politics. The # of Democrats that have questions about what the President is doing is growing. Also, many American's (like yourself) have issues with the agenda that Obama's administration is rushing through Congress. Does that make us all un-patriotic? Most, if not all, politicians will wave flags and such when it suits them. The 'right', as you speak of them, do not hold the patent on hypocrisy. Not agreeing with President Obama's economic policies has zero to do with patriotism just as disagreeing with President Bush.s Iraq policy has zero to do with patriotism. It has to do (for politicians, anyway) with getting re-elected. Elections have zero to do with patriotism, also. All of the above are due to a lack of Principles and Values. Not one politician - that I know of - leads by example.

What does everyone think about the Fair Tax? How about any other options that would help our country survive the current economic storm? Or is the solution to simply take more from the rich because they have it to give? One last thought - if one person contributes to society more than another person, why should they then be punished upon their death by a tax that is not imposed on a person that did not contribute to the same society as much?

(continued) An additional question I'd like to raise are the implementation of other solutions for revenue generation for the operation of the government. I believe that the current system curtails the incentive to engage in growth-enhancing economic activities. Why isn't our government studying alternative options for revenue generation? Charles Kettering once said, "If you have always done it that way, it is problably wrong." Granted, that is a highly generalized view in respect to taxation, but I believe anyone can see my point regardless. I can also point out that you cannot mistake motion for action, also. Change for the sake of change is not a sensible option, either. Please look to the recent changes that our government has rushed through the legislative process. Stunning how huge sums of money and large policy changes have been thrust upon the American population with very little study or oversight. I digress...

So, if taxes are lawfully enacted and upheld by the courts, then that is it, right? There is no other alternative and the government and courts are infallible? A couple of points: One flaw I see in that arguement is how illegal aliens have been treated as a special group. An illegal alien certainly can accept the benefits of being an American every single day and they don't have to waste time comingup with ways not to contribute to the American society. They have been summarily singled out and exepmted from many of the taxes that you talk about. I have no problem with any person coming to this country seeking a better life. Both sides of my family did just that. Why should illegal aliens not be required to become citizens and contribute to society through the same excessive taxation that the rest of us are subject to?

While I cannot refute your assertion that anyone can spend your money better than you can when you are dead, that still doesn't make the government the best option (seemingly the only option, in your view) to take and spend a 'rich' person's wealth after they die. Because John Adams couldn't keep enough $ in the country's coffers to protect it, why should dead people have to cover the balance remaining? Simply because they are dead and cannot object? Call me selfish - I want my children to be able to take whatever I give to them when I die and do with it what they will. The government is not one of my children. If they 'need' more $, they should do a better job balancing the budget.

(continued) "They probably haven't worked a day in their lives. What is wrong with taking from the rich deadbeats who don't work and giving it to hard-working Americans who do work." Really? What is wrong with it? The government's theft of one person's $ to give to another person that didn't earn it is not OK. Principles and Values come into play just a little, don't they? How does the means by which a person comes by their $ matter when it comes to the government stealing it? Remember - equal opportunity not equal results. If you seriously think that the government can spend your $ better than you can - well, welcome home. The Obama administration has provided you with a front row seat so you can watch (full transparency, right?) just how well things are going. I have no ill feelings towards those folks that have more $ than me. I want to sit down with them (they can buy lunch, of course) and learn how they did it, so I can do it, too. I pray that I can become the trunk of my family tree that allows all the branches to grow unimpeaded.

Don't mind me for butting in here (my bulging vein just made an appearance), but let's extrapolate your logic out just a bit - for arguement's sake, OK? Picture this: you work your a** off and provide the world with a ground-breaking invention that brings you untold amounts of wealth. Your future generations won't -have- to work, thanks to you. Tell me how that is bad, please. What do you care if your future generations don't have to work? Isn't that the ultimate dream for any person? I wake up every morning hoping to provide the best life that I can for my family. If I happen to provide a better life for my family than you do for yours, am I expected to be ashamed of my achievements? Should I be able to demand the government seize a portion of your (and your family's) $ and give it to me (no questions asked on your part, by the way) if you provide for your family better than I do for mine? (more)
