Big Government : George Will: Catholic Bishops Got What They Deserved for Supporting ObamaCare

"...keeping ones legs closed costs nothing" That's nice and true, however, there are many many married women who are also on the pill. Should they keep their legs closed as well? My comment was about the low cost of the pill and the government not dictating that I should have to pay for other people's contraceptives whether they are married or not. This is not a morality debate.

Bingo. They want to keep ignorant uniformed women tethered to the Democrat Party. Contraceptives are inexpensive. A doctor can write a prescription for generic birth control pills for as little as $9.00 (probably less). I'm sure if a woman visits her local free clinic she could get the pills at no cost. This is a huge power grab once again. I'm pretty furious that I will now have to pay for other women's contraceptives and that "delightful" morning after pill through my insurance...and I'm not Catholic. I told my husband yesterday that I don't recognize this country anymore. I'm troubled that we've allowed this government to go, possibly, beyond the point of no return. Fortunately, my husband is an optimistic person and thinks the 2012 election will turn out well. We can all only hope.

Big Hollywood : 'Atlas Shrugged Part 2' Release Date Timed for Presidential Election

"The God of the Machine" (published in 1943) written by Isabel Paterson is worth checking out. Here is a little info regarding the woman who was once Ayn Rand's good friend and a great influence in her life. http://www.theamericanconservative.com/article/20...

Big Hollywood : 'Hunger Games' Book Trilogy Celebrates Freedom, Smaller Government

Man hunting man is not a new plot line by any means. "The Most Dangerous Game", published in 1924, was the inspiration for many future screenplays. The Van Damme masterpiece :~) "Hard Target" is one example. Children hunting children is not new to this plot line either. Japanese author Koushun Takami wrote a novel titled "Battle Royale" which was published in 1999. The novel is set in a dystopian society and focuses on 42 students in a junior high school class that have been chosen to participate in a government project known as the Program. The kids are taken by the government and dropped off in a undisclosed location (this class is sent to an island) and told they must kill each other until only one is left. They are each given a survival bag and they each wear a deadly collar that keeps the officials very close. As greaterajax mentioned, there is also the more well known "Lord of the Flies". The characters in HG are fighting against a totalitarian government that has starved and taken away the freedoms of the people in their society. Most conservatives I know would fight against this type of tyranny as well.

Big Hollywood : Feminism in Film: Why 'Haywire' Trounces Torturous 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'

"Audition" is the only movie I can think of where a man is tortured unmercifully by a woman, though he is drugged so he doesn't exactly turn the tables on her. His son is the one who takes care of business. So maybe that's a bit of a stretch. By the way, I did not see this movie. Just reading about "Audition" made my stomach turn. I've never seen "Sudden Impact"...going to have to check it out.

As far as "Death Proof" goes, that guy was a serial killer. The girls did not attack him, he attacked them and they fought back. When he finally does get his comeuppance, as you know, he was battered and weak. It still took all three women to finish him so it's not like one girl and her magic girl powers ended that odious man. You probably think he should have been arrested and brought to justice. The police had him and were suspicious of him but decided to let him go on his merry little way. So yeah, I think in this movie those girls were heroes. Or maybe it would have been more suitable to let the psychopath live on and kill more women. Hmmm... Men seem to have no problem with a revenge action movie involving just men. Why is it acceptable that only a man who has been wronged or harmed may get revenge? And you know as well as I do that there's a copiuos amount of action movies with this type of storyline. As a side note (on another female revenge movie) , I really like the movie "The Brave One" with Jodie Foster. I was on her side the entire time.

Big Hollywood : 'Haywire' Review: Mixed Martial-Arts Star Carano TKO'd by Soggy Spy Story

Why are you trying so hard to convince us of your point? We all know that men are physically stronger than most women. Superheroes and "110 pound women" beating a man to a pulp is pure fiction. Though I like fantasy and fiction in my movies, I also know I have to suspend my disbelief. Also, men do not fly nor do they climb walls with their Spidey powers nor do they do what Arnold and Bruce do in most of their movies (I really like both of these guys by the way). I didn't know who this woman was when I viewed the trailer. My husband educated me regarding Ms. Carano's gifts and background. He then said she could probably kick the a** of many men, including himself. That made me chuckle. She's a rare woman who you will most likely never meet and certainly never tussle with. She is no threat to your manhood. Let it go...

Big Hollywood : 'Heavenly Creatures' Blu-ray Review: Still Director Peter Jackson's Greatest Film

I think The Virgin and Child with St Anne and St John the Baptist drawing is far more lovely and complex than the boring and highly overrated Mona Lisa. What is considered a masterpiece in the arts is subjective though critics and scholars would like us to think otherwise. Having said that, my favorite Peter Jackson film is "The Frighteners" followed closely by "Dead Alive".

It's really is sad when a visionary director like Proyas is told to "dumb down" his film, especially a masterpiece like Dark City. From the commentary-“For me Dark City is a film of hope and optimism. It has a firm belief in the individual winning out over the mass mind, and I think that’s a very important feeling to have in this world.” Wow, you gotta love Alex Proyas.

Big Hollywood : BH Interview: Director Cyrus Nowrasteh, Anne Rice Join Forces to Bring 'Christ the Lord' to the Big

We all wonder about the early years of Christ which the gospels say little to nothing about. I know that it was his final years that were most important, but I still wonder... The book is written from the perspective of a very young Christ (he's around 7 years old). Anne Rice utilized and researched from many different sources (including the New Testament) to gather information about Christ's youth and his eventual understanding of who he really was. After all, he was human as well as divine. Can you imagine having the weight of the world upon your shoulders, discovering at a very early age you could perform life changing miracles, and that you are the son of God? The Christ books are not anything similar to her vampire novels. They pay great respect to the divine Jesus. There are no "sucker punches". Just a beautiful story about the origins of a man who was thousands of years ahead of his time, a great teacher, and most important of all...the divine son of God. P.S., read the books. You will most likely enjoy them!

" He’s not as purty as Edward in the “Twilight” series" The very handsome Chris Sarandon was 43 (a MAN) when he made Fright Night. I would never even think to compare him to that awful emo child Robert Pattinson. The new Fright Night was just okay. I like the kid that played Charlie, but I found the character of Peter Vincent to be vulgar. He was so charming in the original, that for me, this new character was very off-putting. I'm no prude, but good grief just about every word out of that guy's mouth was profanity.

Victor/Victoria is my favorite Blake Edwards film (I really like The Party as well). Lesley Ann Warren is hilarious in her role. Toddy is a great character because while he is an unabashed homosexual, he is certainly not afraid to laugh at himself or any other gay person in the film. The finale of the film, when he is dressed like Victoria and sings Shady Dame From Seville, always has me rolling in hysterics. Yes, this movie would probably be frowned upon if made today.

Wow, thankfully this type of PC garbage wasn't around when Shakespeare wrote his plays, Billy Wilder made Some Like It Hot, and that 80s genius of a show, Bosom Buddies, aired. The PC crap spewed from this group is really getting old...and I am completely for gay rights. But enough already. Everyone on this planet has the right to be offended including the members of GLAAD. This is not about "understanding" transgender people because the two guys portrayed on the show are not transgender. They need a job, this is not a true lifestyle for them. Big difference. Too bad this offends you GLAAD. Now grow up and go whine about something that is really hurting the efforts of your group.
