Uhg, don't remind me of Chronicles of Riddick, I still haven't finished it, and I'm currently at a spot I simply cannot get through. I want to finish it, but it just won't let me!

Arcadian Rhythms : Why I'm not interested in Mass Effect 3

My experience with Mass Effect nearly mirrors badgers exactly (I did not play ME2 in French) and my sentiments are nearly the same as well. Though I could appreciate the world building of the game and the idea of continuity between games, the actual mechanics of playing it and the overall tone of the Mass Effect universe simply bored the shit out of me. I'm sorry, I could put it no other way. It just feels so stale to me.

I actually got a little excited and let out a little "oouh" when I read that about the side-quests... I'm gonna keep my eye out for it during the next Steam money thieving event!

Oh Red Faction 2, your dimming memories in my mind still paint a fantastic picture in my imagination. Before RF:G I tried to replay RF2 and made absolutely pathetic progress. I think I was partially in shock at realizing just how much my memories lied to me! I wasn't able to keep playing. And now when I see RF2 in my collection it's more sad than happy.

Wow, gotta say I gave absolutely no credit to this game, especially after Driv3r. I couldn't have been bothered to care. After how much I enjoyed the first game it was a disappointing to see the franchise deteriorate. You may have just made a believer out of me! Is there an incredible ramp up in difficulty near the end like in the first game?

Arcadian Rhythms : 2011 Retrospective: The Favourites

Though I was disappointed with Crysis 2 at first, I've found more love for it in my second playthrough! It's still not the game I was hoping for but it's also not horrible. My biggest disappointment this year was Rage by far. I suppose It's my own fault though, it probably had something to do with me starting to warm up to Doom 3 as I was making good headway through it just before Rage released. I enjoyed pockets of the game but taken as a whole it's failures eclipse the good. It's a shame because it feels like a game which was missing a few key ideas and wasn't properly fleshed out before being released. I'm not even considering playing it again...right now.

Having never played Skyrim and only being vaguely familiar with the memes, I feel confident in saying, someone should mod the game to be more like Just Cause 2. I'm hoping Valve gives away Portal 2 for free on Steam at some point like they did with Portal. Thats about the only way I'm ever gonna play it.

Arcadian Rhythms : Does this look sexist to you?

One part of me thinks the same thing, that if the animator was a woman than it would almost make it worse. Another part of me thinks that if the animator was a woman than perhaps the animation was created as intended for whatever purpose the animator was hoping to achieve. I don't know, I'm still not sure where I stand. I was a little bothered by the fact that almost every female character in Rage was wearing very little with the exception of the older women and one or two modestly dressed post apocalyptic survivors. The character models where very well detailed and most characters felt unique but why do all women need to be wearing skirts or have next to no shirt on. I mean there is part of me that doesnt really have a problem with the sexified female NPC, but another part of me that is thinking "You're really going out, in the Post-Apocalypse, dressed like that?" On the other hand I was thinking almost exactly the opposite while playing games like Mass Effect 1/2. While playing those games, which go so far as to allow the character to chase romantic relationships, I couldn't get over how sexless and sterile the games actually were. It was like all of the risque sexual innuendo was focus grouped out of the game to ensure nothing at all was offensive or over-sexualised. I would have loved for any of the characters to step out of their strict role and to do or say something risque.

I'm unsure of where exactly I stand with the issue of sexism in video games. Certainly I'm against the negative portrayal of women but I'm unsure where things begin to bother me. If the animator of the Huntress were a woman would it change anything? I was thinking that the Huntress animation and how she's dressed irks me a bit but then I remembered Golden Axe and the Amazonian. She doesn't really bother me, so how come the Huntress does?

Arcadian Rhythms : Strictly for the Tardcore: Why I prefer controllers

As a PC only gamer, I've adapted around the mouse and keyboard and am very comfortable with it for almost any game or genre and I totally agree with Dylan about racing games. Wheel aside, I'd much rather use a keyboard than a controller most of the time, though games like Project Gotham 2/3 made me love controller racing (also the first racing game I enjoyed racing in first person perspective!) Games like Just Cause 2 or Red Faction: Guerrilla play just as well on mouse and keyboard as they do on controller and so I usually stick with what I know because I'm familiar with it. I think what it comes down to for me is comfort and enjoyability. I'm very capable of playing Super Meat Boy with a keyboard and enjoy it plenty, but playing with an 360 controller is simply just much more enjoyable (and comfortable, SMB has given me some wicked wrist cramps)! Being so used to PC gaming I'm almost always fine with the mouse/keyboard setup but it's undeniable that a controller helps make a game experience more enjoyable from time to time! Thinking about it now, I bet Batman: Arkham Asylum would have been more enjoyable with a controller!
