Her point was to show how ANYONE can have an objective internal dialog to sort thoughts from emotions from history to arrive at a decision. The full tape was not racist or bigoted. Whoever stitched those blatant lies together, did so to make the woman look like she was something she is not. Breitbart is guilty of slander and perjury and is being sued for so much money that even his despicable backers won't have enough to pay. Had he watched the tape, asked about the source (like a real journalist) he would have known. But no, his huge ego and desire to destroy anyone (usually black - as in the also discredited ACORN videos, made by a convicted moron) he disagrees with. I want the constitution and our justice system to determine the man's guilt or innocence. This is exactly what the founders of our country wanted when they wrote "with liberty and justice for all." The idea of individuals having rights to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" has made the United States of America the most prosperous and free country in the world. Many of the posters here want to change this system. Not a good idea. Eugene is a safe city and its crime rate is much lower than other communities of equal size. However, many people here are unjustifiably frightened of crime and being a victim. Why? Factual information on crime and punishment is regularly distorted for political reasons. Money that could go to productive sources for the betterment of the entire community is regularly siphoned off to feed tin-pot monarchs wanting more and more power and control. They have written a new constitution - unapproved, but tacitly accepted - by a community of the lazy, the ignorant, and the self-absorbed. Here's what you get when you don't pay attention: Politicians and unelected administrators using tax money as they choose without regard for the people who pay taxes. Police and law enforcement making their own rules; judging right and wrong; using "street justice" to punish the criminal, the innocent, or the disagreeable; on-the-spot without regard for the rule of law. City department heads building little fiefdoms, like barons or lords, clamoring for more money and personnel to do less while ignoring the basic responsibilities of good clean water, dependable sewers, sound bridges and smooth streets. When no one is accountable civilizations crumble, democracy is discarded and a medieval feudalism reigns. Of course when there are just kings and serfs, no one worries about a broken window or a stolen bicycle. There is no crime and the king's law is supreme - assaults tend to rise - but no one reports them. This is why you must pay attention. Individual participation is what makes democracy work.
