Big Government : Earthquakes Don't Kill Haitians - Underdevelopment Does

I am conservative and I don't have a virulent hatred for environmentalists. But I think perhaps part of the answer to your question is that the 'policies they recommend' are the problem. They are not just 'recommending' - they are passing, regulating and enforcing. To the detriment of our country and our economy. The 'chain-myself-to-a-tree-person" and the "GW Political Machine" are two different animals that have merged into one very dangerous weapon against a free enterprise country and threatens liberty, economy and the republic as a whole.

I hav nothing to say about the original article. So I apologize if this peeves the topic police. But.... I have been speaking harshly to the AP photo captions for three days now and your comment of this story being one of suffering and compassion and 'politicizing' the event made me wonder if the AP photo captions were total incompetence (as I was believing) or more 'political' than I had imagined. I am sick of reading the word "Looter" in every photo of someone carrying out food from a destroyed store. These people are survivors of a major disaster. They are not 'looters' - I see none walking out with Plasma TVs and other electronics. They need food and water. They are trying to SURVIVE. Today, the AP headlines are calling them 'scavengers'. Really? Why looters and scavengers and not survivors and victims of this major disaster? I'm not trying to read anything political into this - it just infuriated me every time I read it. They are already detaining people for taking the food that is spoiling out of the destroyed markets. Really? Why?

Big Government : Let's Be Frank, Mr. Vice President: The Stimulus Failed

Very well put AJ. I would only add one thing, and it is with great hope that I say; the progressive transformation movement in America seriously jumped the gun. The indoctrination was not complete. Had they waited another generation - there would be little to no resistance. However, the growing resistance to their methods and motives is heartening. Indeed, the sleeping giant is awakening. We the people have taken off the blinders of apathy, ignorance and 'party'. There are still enough Americans that believe in and know what our country was founded and built upon, and they are not going to give up on it as easlily as the transformers had calculated.

Big Government : A Value-Added Tax Won't Solve the Deficit Crisis

It boggles my mind that anyone other than politicians would consider any added taxes a good idea to reduce the deficit or improve anything. The amount of waste and fraud is absolutely, positively, REDICULOUS. Until that is addressed and stopped (by any means possible as being discussed here) the idea of spending more, taxing more, is beyond stupid - it is the continued enslavement of the american people. Period.

Big Government : The Coming Republican Surge

I also have a nineteen year old that did her fair share of arguing in high school classes with teachers and other students that were trying to shove the liberal talking points down her throat. She was definitely outnumbered in every argument - always felt like the lone conservative in her graduating class. Almost two years later and her social network 'studies' have shown her that many of her 'friends' are as conservative and patriotic as her. Although, she still spends her fair share of time trying to teach her liberal friends the truth about liberalism and all the lies and distortions that go along with it. Am I proud of her? You betcha!

Big Government : Dems Vote to Allow Federal Funding for Corrupt ACORN

My question exactly. What is the next step? This MUST stop. Imo, the democrats are supporting the funding to make sure they receive acorn "help" come election time. Disgusting. And this must be stopped now, long before campaigns get ramped up or it will be a given that things will be very ugly come election time.

Big Government : The Political Landscape: The Slobs Versus the Snobs

Can anyone answer this question or direct me to factual information regarding it; I recently heard that in some elections, if a voter leaves an area blank, not voting for either candidate - then the vote is counted for the incumbent. It seems I heard this in the context of speaking about Pelosi and San Francisco. As in either it was something that had passed, she was trying to pass, or similiar? The discussion was about how these people keep their seats amid such low approval ratings. Is this something anyone is familiar with? Rumors fly and I did do some research to see if I could locate this, but was unable to come up with anything. Anyone have input on this?

That's funny. I got flagged last week on a different thread. No clue what could have been wrong with it - it was about big corps that are supporting the copenhagen treaty, I named a few. Mentioned how thru our purchasing power we are supporting that which we fight against. shrug. It never did get posted. Not sure why.

Wow? Really? Hmmm, so the opposition reported all these phantom districts? Amazing. Oh and by the way, not sure anyone can 'check the facts' since a huge portion of the contract for the 18 Million Dollar UPDATE to this website was REDACTED! Top secret stuff, apparently. And so far, no one is able to find out what the original cost of creating this website was. At least this is according to congressional persons trying to get the facts to check. Transparency is becoming quite blurry, isn't it?

Big Government : Harry Reid Wants to Vote on a Phantom Bill (Dem Dirty Tricks Edition)

Everyone and anyone that are able to physically be on the steps (and in the doors) of the senate in these coming days - Go! (leave the pitchforks home though) Make it a relay / marathon if need be. I don't know the 'rules' of 'visiting' the senate? But is it possible to have a flow of however many thousands of "We the People" in their offices and in their presence starting now and through this forced vote? They may ignore calls, letters and emails - but can the ignore thousands in person? No permit should be necessary - just a few VERY concerned citizens wanting to speak to Senators. Hopefully a few tens of thousands all at the same time? Just a thought.

Big Government : Internment, CSI and Eric Holder’s Disarming of America

At one point in the last few days, I saw this as a lose-lose for this administration while searching for "Why in the world would they do this?". These were my simple initial thoughts; how would any court ignore the basic 'rights' we are all familiar with...Miranda, Speedy trial, coerced confessions, impartial jury...and still allow a conviction? So if these glaring forced a failure of conviction, disaster for this administration. But if all of the above is 'ignored' and they get a conviction, they succeed in making a mockery of and destroying our judicial system. Disaster for this administration, fail / fail right? Until in a conversation about these simple thoughts, it was brought up that there are two possible scenarios that will constitute a win for this administration's ultimate goal; 1. Impossible to find an impartial jury - take it to the world court. 2. The farce trial puts the goal of destruction of the Constitution into hyperdrive. Any number of measures can / will be taken in the wake of this trial. Fundamentally changing this Country. period.
