Hhmm... I am only now reading your text... I don't know about you but I have limited access to the knowledge and paintings that are considered good by the experts. Perhaps by saying "look better" in Chinese it means something that is lost in translation here.... something like meditate over it like he does before painting. Chinese paintings are all about those things, aren't they!

Those landscapes are really breaking away from that ... In fact, when you fist think: What is this supposed to be??? I guess I would have to get into it more to understand it. So, you are right in saying, that the artist could have explained more what to look for but then, I think he tried... from his point of view.

I love those paintings! I always admire people who do watercolours and "get it right" with one brushstroke. Which is the same as Chinese calligraphy! Of course I am particularly fond of the flowers, peonies and lotus but the other work is awsesome too. Did you see the amount of works he had just on his table? Ugghhh.... and WOW!
