hearwax : Blacklisted - No One Deserves To Be Here More Than Me

Excellent album and a more than decent review, Logan. One of the year's best, too bad it came out after our lists were submitted.

I saw a Hydraheadlines blog about this during the summer. I'm actually pretty sure this has been on sale on vinyl at most of their shows during 2009. I look forward to picking this up.

This band is absolutely incredible. Cool to see they've done an interview with us! I'm automatically friends with anybody who digs Planes Mistaken For Stars.

hearwax : Emmure – Felony

1. Grammar check. 2. I don't see how this is remotely considered a metal album. There's a difference between mindless chugs and putting fills into a song. 3. Worst review because it got a 1/10? Read the other comments here, we explain the rating process.

hearwax : Russian Circles - Geneva

I was unfamiliar with the band before given the album to review, and it really caught me off-guard. I'm a fan of post-rock or whatever the hell it's labeled now, and I found the band to be a streamlined version of some weightier bands. One of the key reasons I like this album so much is because it doesn't wear out its welcome. Too many instrumental bands wear out the same riff over and over; RC get the job done. Try going back to Melee and the title track, the rest will all fall into place.

hearwax : The Fall of Troy - In The Unlikely Event

Excellent review Logan. Great review for an undeserving record. I think you hit the nail right on the head here: While there are moments that definitely stand out, the rest feels like it's phoned in. Maybe they're testing us? I hope this allows the band to reflect on their pallet and next time they'll drop the perfect combination of both worlds.

Josh, this is genius! I remember Peter Howell raving about how absurd this film is earlier this year in the Toronto Star, but it slipped my mind. There should be a screening in late October, I'm excited to see this. Is it half as bad as the greatness (read: inexplicable idiocy) of Troll 2?

hearwax : Mute Math – Armistice

I think the point of putting in a Bloc Party reference is to evoke a sonic comparison that can't be described in words. Mindlessly calling someone out for comparing two bands and calling it "shocking" is not only hilarious, but completely elitist. The reviewer suggested that Bloc Party marry sensitivity and rock better than Mute Math, I don't see what's so shocking about that. Provide a little more insight, why the Bloc hatred?
