or we stop with the pretense of safety, and stop raising revenue by an additional driving tax-speeding tickets. Even if the speed limit is set at the 85th percentile, that means more than 1 in 7 people become automatic 'lawbreakers'

After restoring the integrity of the fuel tax, and seeing that it more than covers the maintenance of the road network, consideration should be giving to phasing out that fuel tax due to returns on the people's money that the government holds-ala CAFR http://www.cafrman.com/Articles/Art-WI-S1.htm and youtube.com/watch?v=bn3hUcmNDdA

National Motorists Association Blog : US Should Beware Of Average Speed Check Cameras

Yes it is a valid average speed measurement, but the speed laws are not average speed limit. Because I could drive 100mph per hour, get to my destination, and then 'amortize' my average speed by the time I an not in motion. This is just the final frontier in highway robbery, and I think it will be one too far. It will break the camel's back. [and spur shotgun sales] and 'if the average speed is above the limit, then the instantaneous speed must have been at or above the average as well' is only true if you have informational data on the particles position/velocity. See Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle. The fundamental theorem of calculus requires an equation... and our system of jurisprudence requires an accuser for a crime, which this totally fails on both counts (the accuser, and the crime)

National Motorists Association Blog : US Should Beware Of Average Speed Check Cameras

First off the statutory speed limit is an instantaneous speed limit, not an average one. So these average speed limit cameras, unless they track you continuously, and can point out a specific instance where the vehicle is over said speed limit, are worthless junk. Secondly, the statutory speed limit applies to commercial vehicles only. and if the criminal who call themselves government try this; either the license plates come off, or target practice season begins.

National Motorists Association Blog : CAFE Spells RIP For Trucks?

A carbon tax is nonsense. Carbon dioxide is not pollution. People and businesses have no right to pollute. So if anything that came out of power plants besides water vapor or carbon dioxide, then the state(s) that are downwind have an actionable cause. Which is a function of federal district court.

Eric Peters missed the mark. The 35.5mpg is calculated with the uncorrected fuel economy numbers, not the window sticker. The Ford Ranger has not seen anything more than a token injection of R&D money. Throw $500 million at it, and it could meet that 35.5mpg in a special SFE version. The people who occupy the positions in government are not stupid or inept, they are just working to implement a post-industrial age. United Nations Agenda 21 in full effect.

National Motorists Association Blog : Trip to Mars – Or The Mall?

There really isn't one particular thing you can point to, and can eliminate, when it comes to weight savings. It really is a design perspective, the government mandates you protect people who do not want to protect themselves.[against the most absurd crash scenarios] The 'safety cage' of the car has to be substantially robust, which requires expensive steel, or more bulk of cheaper steel. If you take out [forward] airbags, then the load limiting function of the seat belts needs to be removed, so that will increase injury [to belted occupants]. I'd rather keep the adaptive forward airbags, with seat belt pre-tensioners + load limiters. There is no weight savings for the deletion of traction control. The hardware aspect of traction control is built into the ABS, the software aspect uses the ABS wheel speed sensors, + throttle by wire system.

National Motorists Association Blog : Right On Red?

Commercial driving is a privilege. As an individual, you have a right to drive. It has already been to the US Supreme Court (Guest vs. U.S.). The right to freedom of movement was so important and fundamental is was listed in the Article of Confederation. It became such a basic understanding it was not even enumerated in the Constitution. (just like the right to breathe) If driving is a privilege, then you have the right to sue the state for their negligence in 'licensing' drivers who are incompetent. Seeing as it is a right, that suit would be thrown out.

End the Fed! It is time for the US to control the issuance of its money/credit, not a bunch of foreign bankers. (the federal reserve is not a public or government bank, it is a private institution) The idea of inspection is nonsense. Does the State now assume responsibility? and what happens when you know far more than the inspectors?

Personal responsibility. We must be living in 1984 when a mother had her child hit/killed while crossing a road, and the 'system' charges her with vehicular manslaughter. She faces more jail time than the driver, who had alcohol in his system. care2.com/causes/mother-who-lost-son-in-hit-and-run-faces-longer-jail-term-than-driver.html apparently you are responsible for things you do not do.

National Motorists Association Blog : Life in the Slow Fast Lane

Real criminals take their own private jets. How does the commercial speed limit apply to the public? Subject matter jurisdiction? The use of the public way for private profit is a privilege extended to businesses. The use of the public way, by the public, is a right. Driving quickly isn't a danger, it is a potential danger. Big difference.

One needed a large engine when the only transmissions available were 3 speed automatics & 4 speed manuals. It is such a shame that the US finally got on the transmission bandwagon about 5 years ago, when they should have done it at least 15 years ago.

National Motorists Association Blog : What Ever Happened To The Full-Size Spare Tire?

Crappy old cars had live axles. They also had their gas tank behind the rear axle. So the spare wheel sat on top of the 'box' that was reserved for axle/suspension articulation. In such an instance a mini-spare would actual provide space savings. Since the auto industry learned to move the fuel tank inside the wheelbase, the spare wheel was repositioned to rear & center. There is more than enough room for a full size diameter wheel in EVERY car on the market. The wheel diameter is irrelevant, the overall diameter of the tire is what is important. Just look at the Altima, Nissan has reserved 27" between the rear mufflers for a full-size diameter spare wheel.
