KVAL - Eugene, OR : Eugene woman drowns in the Umpqua River near Elkton | Local & Regional News | Eugene News, Weather,

Elkton Fire Department is Volunteer. It takes time to assemble the rescue team. I am familiar with some Volunteer Rescues i other small communities. Lack of funding makes their equipment unreliable. I knew of one where the Paramedic vehicle was stored outside. When they responded to a car crash, they found vital equipment had been stolen. If you are in a community of under 5000, you aren't going to have much available. Where I live I can pretty much guarantee that if your house catches fire, it will take the fire crew a good 40 minutes to muster and arrive. Your home will be nothing worth saving by then. Reedsport is nearly 40 miles from Elkton. As far as Cottage Grove goes, it is in Lane County while Elkton is in Douglas. All sorts of problems with interagency response. Actually the best bet would have been a rescue helicopter deployed from Roseburg. But again, that is underfunded and mainly used to shuttle critical patients from Mercy in Roseburg to hospitals in Eugene and Portland. A number of years ago, I transported a heart attack patient 17 miles to the hospital myself after he came to my door and requested it. Turns out he had a previous heart attack. And the ambulance took an hour and a half to cover that 17 miles as they got lost. When he came to my door I did not question him. I knew he had his own phone to call an ambulance. Due to not questioning him, his life was saved. But the ambulance people and hospital gave me lots of flack for not putting transport up to them. Having this man's thanks made me realize we made the right decision. He was still alive 2 years later. His heart attack was caused by an arterial stent from an operation 3 weeks earlier. He also had a great doctor, hit him with the paddles 14 times instead of giving up after three.

With a drowning the old turn on the stomach and pump revival has been again renewed. The standard CPR fails to evacuate the water from the lungs. CPR is brutal. I have attempted it on 3 heart attack victims. All died. I did restart the heart of one. But his heart only beat, it did not pump. And attempted all three completely on my own as well as calling for help on the phone. But here the main reason for loss of life was swimming i a dangerous spot. The Umpqua as well as all glacial fed rivers is both cold and loaded with currents. Even a good swimmer can be pulled under. And like a cork bob up and down until drowned. No matter how good a swimmer you are, you should have a flotation device on any river or the ocean. Lakes are much safer. But again if there is no one near to save you, you better think twice. I commend the efforts of those who tried to save her. The fact of the matter is even had an ambulance been on the scene or even if delivered to a Trauma Center, chances of revival are very slim even with all the skill and equipment. So, they should not regret that if they had done more the outcome different. From the time oxygen is cut off, there is only 3 to 3-1/2 minutes to restart. After which the brain rapidly dies. Though drowning in very cold water improves chances. A few children have been brought back from the dead after more than 30 minutes.

KVAL - Eugene, OR : Police seek \'extremely dangerous\' suspect in torture-killing | KVAL CBS 13 - News, Weather and Spo

Best yet would be to turn him over to some Apache Indians that are familiar with real torture. The Apache's didn't think it was much fun unless it took 30 days to die. After each step, they are give hours or a day to recover a bit while anticipating what will come next. Usually the last step is to put what is left in some clay and have a very slow BBQ. They put a couple straws i his nose and a tube in his mouth to keep him breathing and a bit of water to drink now and then. I believe the Apache's hold the record for slow torture, though the Zulu's do a pretty good job as well. They can make a slow impalement last about two weeks. Both make sure you eat and drink so you don't die from that. They want their victims to fully enjoy and appreciate what is happening to them. After which vultures and coyotes dine.

Totally unrelated to anything here. But I was wondering if any others were having trouble with the Google Search Engine? Mine has recently often given no results on even the easiest searches. Something definitely. wrong. I switched back to Copernic which is a much better search engine anyway, however it works from a browser tab.

Thought I would add that I can actually read a little Hebrew and Aramaic. Not much, but the languages are both similar to Babylonian and Phoenician which I can read, or rather used to be able to read. I haven't attemted since my crash. Both the Hebrew and Aramaic alphabet are very similar to Phoenician and the words themselves obviously originate with Babylonian and Phoenician. The only place I have put that to use has been reading some of the Dead Sea Scrolls. As you know that has nothing of the New Testament, but the parallel writings from 1 to 70 CE are interesting about at least two other Messiahs. I found it frustrating I have been unable to learn to read Thai and Russian. Exposed to both for a few days, I can speak and understand both with limited vocabulary. in Sumer, Babylonian, Assyrian, Phoenician and a little Old Persian, I can read and write but cannot speak it though I can sound out some words. (In college I got in trouble saying Sumerian a few times. It is Sumer. I still sometimes revert to saying Sumerian so those unfamiliar make the connection)

Though I am an Atheist, I may surprise you that until I lost a dear friend just over 4 years ago I attended an Episcopal Church fairly regularly. They all knew I was an Atheist yet accepting of me. When asked why I attended, I told them it was to associate with good people and ritual religion provides. Both which I found desirable or necessary in life. Also, that I am highly influenced not by what others do or say, but how they actually live their lives. And with that, we often joked about me being a heathen. Great people. I would still be going if my friend as still alive. Since you believe in god and Jesus, I highly recommend you experiment with other churches. I have gone to many, and would like to try many others. About the only thing stopping me is an invitation and someone to go with. About the only ones off my list are Baptist, Mormon, Church of Christ, Church of Prophesy. Pentacostal, 7th Day Adventist, Jehovah's Witness, Church of God. I feel I'm leaving one or two out, sorry. (Yes, I tried all listed, though I may be missing some sub divisions of Baptist) I don't think I'm much different than other Atheists. We all seem to be pretty experienced with religion. I always get quite a laugh when people tell me how little I know of religion or the Bible. I'm definitely not inspired, but not ignorant on the subject. Everyone, even Atheists, need to explore. I hope you will. That immortality. I'm hoping some of my historical writing survives in the University of Arizona and University of Texas-Austin libraries. They have the best chance of a century or so. My aerospace and other works are probably mostly obsolete and gon now. And certainly the most recently I have written will be within another 20 years. I love the last line in your post. I will certainly try. I hope you also have a great, productive and meaningful life. For this is the only life we can be certain of. Should note that my main objection with the Episcopal Church was their acceptance of homosexuals. Fine for accepting attendees, but I find ordainment of homosexual priests and bishops objectionable. Actual membership of a homosexual as well, but less so. That issue divided their church a few years ago as well, so it's not just me. i want to add that other than a few of the Native American religions, Wicca and a few ancient religions, I find religion very suppressive of women in all aspects. The Torah, Bible and Qur'an all make women chattel.

I should add here. While is is fine for an amputee to make fun of himself as well as other amputees. We all consider it in very poor taste for an able bodied person to joke about our conditions. And I am offended enough by your statement that had you said it in my presence and in the presence of another amputee.(not for my sake, but I ill definitely defend another fellow amputee) I suspect you would be laying on the ground with a broken sternum. Yes I have only the one arm. But still use it well. I practice three of the martial arts I was trained in daily. And while I no longer break bricks and concrete blocks with my hands, I do sometimes break stacks of lumber. Breaking a pine or fir 4X4 I still find easy. And I will add that as an amputee should i do that, I don't think any cop would arrest me and don't believe any jury would convict me. A little over a year ago I put a guy down much bigger and younger than me. He made the mistake of challenging me to get out of my car and fight. He threw four punches and didn't land a one. I put him down with one. And yes, at the least, I cracked his sternum. A favorite target of mine. I even had a few spectators cheer me.

Second thought, I did bid on some contracts. Wasn't really sales. I just received job descriptions, would determine if we could do the job and what was required and set a price to do it. All were take it or leave it offers. So, would you consider that sales? However I did not do that while in Saudi. I did that at Air Research (Now called Allied - Signal Turbine Division. Which reminds me. Air Research had a Boing 707 parked outside daily. One unusual thing about it is that it had three GE jet turbine fan engines. The fourth was an Allied Signal turbo prop. Yes! Very strange. It flew from LA to phoenix daily M-F. We also had a truck outside with a turbo engine in it. 2000+HP. They never cleared up the overheating problem when stuck in traffic. Several machinists and assembly workers stole turbo engines to put in their cars and trucks. Typically those were 1750 HP engines used in helicopters. From Air Research, I purchased the turbochargers for two of my motorcycles, a pickup and a car. On all but one motorcycle, I kept the boost turned down to 8 psi. About 25% performance and fuel economy increase. But the real benefit is over twice the engine life. Back then I used Aero oil which was 5w-60. Made for aircraft. Worked very well in cars. Only later synthetics beat it. Cost $8 a quart when bought by the case. The guy I bought it from had a pickup with over 750,000 miles. After 5,000 miles, he never changed the oil again. He simply would replace the Franz filter and do an oil analysis. The test never failed the oil and he kept driving with it.

Note to self: Scratch off the former belief that even the ignorant can be educated. No again buny101, I did not rise through the ranks faster than anyone in military history. I would have to look up the man's name but he served in the Union Army during the Civil War. And even in Viet Nam, I know of several that received battlefield commissions. And in fact my Army recruiter had been a Staff Sergeant during WWII and due to battlefield conditions promoted directly to Major. He was demoted back down to Captain during Korea and after Korea to Master Sergeant. But he said when he retired, he would receive the pay of a Major. My great great great grandfather served in the British Army as a Major during the Revolution. After it ended he joined the US Army as a Captain. He was a surveyor. In fact he was the one who built Ft Dearborn which would become Chicago. His son, my great great grandfather also joined the Army. Second only to Zachary Scott, he was the longest serving member in history, even today. He was a Brevet Brigadier General. Three of my great great great grandfather's sons attended West Point. Two graduated. One dropped out and became very world famous. Another of my ggg grandfather's sons, after serving years in the Army, departed for Russia he surveyed the Trans Siberian Railroad route. He died there and is buried in St Petersburg. Though I was abandoned at age 4 by a rotten mother. My father's side of the family has loads of famous people. My ancestors on his side first set foot in America in 1590, Pennsylvania. They came from the village of Langnau Bern Switzerland. They were quite famous there as well, Even earlier, 1232 CE, my ancestors were found in Denmark where my direct ancestor was a very famous builder of Viking Long Ships. And no, I have never worked sales in my life. Closest I would have come to that is being a paper delivery boy at age 9, and a grocery store stocker and carry out at age 11. Sorry buny101 that you have such a meaningless unfulfilling life. You might consider getting some education. And I advise you to actually listen to what is being taught. In my entire life, at least from age 12, nothing has been average. The only time I came to a grinding halt was after the motorcycle crash. That put me completely out of action for over two years going through all the operations. And naturally I had extreme depression with it. After about 2-1/2 years, I kicked all the medications and returned to writing. For all those years I thought my normal vocation was over. But apparently I was wrong. I was turned down for many jobs in the past due to my injuries. Bad news. The job I was applying for, I didn't get. Good news. The same employer has created a new position with even more duties and higher salary for my qualifications. It's not as high pay or prestigious as pre-crash days. But pretty darn good. Especially for Roseburg. The job was confirmed by phone. I was told to expect the formal letter later today by courier. Nice thing about this job too is no forced retirement. I can go on working till I drop. For all my past working career, I have no retirement. Didn't hang around with any employer long enough. Got a 401K but no retirement. Looks like I will correct that and go for 20 years this time. You just might be right about tripping over a bar of gold. It seems my entire adult life, excluding the crash, what should be bad events always turn out good. Dang, thinking about that has me eager to have another tragic event. Just no more vehicle crashes please. Added note: I attribute most of my physical and eve career recovery to my training in Muay Tai, Tai Chi Shoulin and Dim Mak. All teach mind control over one's own body as well as their own destiny. It was 2-1/2 years after the crash I resumed the practice. Really rough at first but got better fast. Most important of all three was pain control. A toss up on what is best but tend to favor the Muay Thai. Only that crash ever had me giving up. The depression was worse than any of the physical damage. I would add to the depression story, but an event there even has myself thinking a particular event ridiculously impossible. I'll just left it said that if I had been ten cats, I would have used up all 90 lives. Oh, and my great uncle arrived in Roseburg in 1851. He operated a logging operation east of town and had a mill in it. He lived next door to town founder Aaron Rose. He has a park named after him but has become obscured in the local history. I believe most of what I am was destiny. I had so many famous members in my family I was certain to be successful. Though unless some even bigger opportunity comes I'll never be famous. Well, at least some of my writing could survive. But I bet by a century or so that too will be discarded.

Not really a reply. But excluding my first two university degrees, the degree from Cambrige and perhaps the PhD, money definitely played a role in obtaining the others. If I made a $100,000 donation to the college, administrators would get busy applying my previous course studied towards new degrees. And once by my request, I had a require course waived. Obtaining most of those degrees was like knocking down a row of dominoes. It took about a year to get another Bachelor Degree, about 18 moths for a Master's. I had a neighbor that lived across the street from me, a multibillionaire by the name of Karsten Solheim. He was inventor of the Ping Golf Club, and had that and a huge aerospace operation. I influenced him to give a $3 million donation to the University of Arizona. For that part, the university wanted to give me a Doctorate, no not honorary but the real thing. I declined. The donation all went to the golf program. He later donated $100 Million to Arizona State University (Boo!) They had a big ceremony to thank him. Karsten didn't even attend. Living across the street from me, Karsten was slumming it. The homes were only worth about $500,000. In 1978 he moved away to a huge fully computerized mansion. If I remember correctly it cost $150 million. The following year I moved to Paradise Valley Arizona, my home overlooking Barry Goldwater's. Safest and quietest neighborhood I ever lived in. Barry had Secret Service protection and I enjoyed the benefit. Got to know Barry pretty well. I attended many barbeques at his home. Great guy. In the 1930's he had been a guide running rafts on the Colorado through the Grand Canyon. Everyone knows his political achievements. But he was also a Major General in the Air Force. Both of us were also HAM Radio Operators. But contrary to the image he set, Barry was far more liberal than he appeared in many things. Oh, and though it didn't begin that way, by late 70's I found fraternities and sororities had a strangle hold on university students. You either joined one or paid them off to get a required course or two. If not you would spend another year or two getting your degree. The fraternities and sororities simply enrolled in some classes and filled all vacancies. After which they would sell the class for a price. After being blocked from a required course, the university would give a student priority to enroll. I'm currently out of touch but may explain why so many spend 5 or 6 years in college instead of 4.

Nope. I suffered depression 10 to 8 years ago. I continue to have PTSD.. I also am Schizoid Personality Type without any symptoms like delusions. Maybe a little paranoia but who hasn't.. I don't think I could have gotten the education I have or work the careers I have if I had Asperger's. With the Traumatic Brain Injury you have a hit though. With that motorcycle crash I had about a 110 MPH impact between the speed of both vehicles. After which another car tire passed over my helmet. The helmet held up but know my brain was knocked against my skull. After the crash I took a few months getting speech back to normal. And I did lose some math skills. I know the MRI shows some brain damage. I choose not to see it. Without knowing the extent of the physical damage, I believe I can do better rewiring around it. Everything considered, I recovered pretty well. No offense. I face the realities of my injury. And fact is, by all rights, I shouldn't even be alive after a crash like that. I avoid the term accident because it wasn't. Thought I would add the helmet held up and externally my head showed no injuries. However, by the time I arrived at the hospital, I had two severe black eyes and my nose was bleeding. I think that indicative of brain trauma. I forget how many bones were broken, but know it as nearly all of them other than fingers and toes. Yet I escaped any organ damage at all. Besides the helmet, I was wearing racing leathers with padding and steel inserts. No doubt both saved my life. Even now, with my Friday event, I have doctors shaking their heads over my recovery. I am too. Should add that other than that MRI definitely showing some brain damage, no doctor has ever made an added statement. I know I have read of a couple cases where half a person's brain was removed. For the most part, the brain rewires itself to resume function. Any damage I have had would be much less. I have thought of taking another IQ Test and comparing it to the past. Problem is the older you get the less accurate those tests are. And just thought that my writing could be influenced by the job that I am going to apparently get. After all, it's been over 10 years since I had a real job where I actually had to be there. I had a call yesterday, and almost certain to be hired. I was told I as the only qualified candidate that applied. I'm definitely very excited.

While the rank as created it did not appear in Viet Nam. I have my papers proving my service. In fact a few months ago, I got a new DD214 which now has the stamped embossed seal. Besides buny101, you once again err. You failed to comprehend that I was having surgery on my arm last Friday at the Portland VA Hospital. I don't think they would be doing that if I never served. Though the surgery was canceled because they couldn't locate the instrument tray. Which turned out well as I had apparently recovered on my own. The EEG and Nerve conduction showed more than 1600% improvement. The MRI and x-ray indicated that the screws holding a plate on my radial and ulna had retightened. Completely unexplainable, but the evidence is with my doctors. I am also glad the surgery didn't proceed because of the Doctor of Anesthesia. I wanted local anesthesia and nothing more than Valium to keep me from flopping like a fish on the table. She wanted to use general and I told her it wouldn't work on me. Other doctors have tried but they only succeed in shutting down organs. I stay awake and alert during surgery with a general. It doesn't really hurt, but I don't like it. She said she might puncture my heart with the needle with a local. I told her this has been done 6 times before without a problem and though they stick me in the arm pit that is a long way from my heart and the needle has never pointed in that direction. Besides, how long a needle did she intend to use? Oh I previously mentioned I had 8 surgeries. The first two were with general anesthesia. It was on the third surgery general failed to work. And they used local to finish up. All the others were local only. No sedation either. Nope I only taught Microwave repair for two weeks in the Army I wasn't particularly good at it. I was far better setting up, tuning up ad repairing the,. I also enjoyed climbing those narrow towers sometimes up to 240 feet tall. Got hazardous duty pay for the month if I did. Know what E-1 recruit pay was in 1965? $78 a month. Even then not much. By the time they took out deductions you had about enough to by toiletries and maybe two drinking binges at the PX. Oh and I am frequently in touch with B.G. Burkett and Steve Waterman. I have reported a few fraud vets through them. Waterman was a SEAL and his full time occupation now is exposing phony SEALS. I believe Burkett was Special Forces. His full time job is exposing phony vets, medals and war claims. Were I a phony who never served, I certainly wouldn't be contacting them, I have been offered a VA Service Connected Disability Pension. Apparently they want to base it on just my service in Viet Nam and my PTSD. Nothing at all happened to me in Viet Nam. And my PTSD occurred about 10 years after when working at a rocket plant.(specifically Morton - Thiokol) I readily rejected the offer. My other employers have been Bell Aerospace, Tally Industries (also a rocket manufacturer) Air Research. In Saudi Arabia FYI my employer was Northrop. Outside aerospace I also worked for GM at the Desert Proving Grounds. I also worked for one year with the National Security Agency, but didn't like it there. In each job as Metrologist I would travel to the National Bureau of Standards with our Class AA Standards to have them certified. In Saudi Arabia, I often hand carried Class AA Standards to the National Bureaus of Standards serving as World Bureau of Standards in Paris, London and Zurich. Someone else was again dispatched to the US National Bureau of Standards in Ft Collins. In all the labs, our weights and measures Class AA Standards were made of pure platinum. The lab standards of some labs were worth more than a half billion dollars. In Saudi Arabia, I made the final calibrations on a Saudi F-15. He met 3 incoming F-14;s from Iran . The Saudi pilot shot one into the Gulf and drove off the remaining two. I only know the pilot's first name was Yaya. Arabic for John. Those 3 F-14's were the last flying in Itan. That was 1984.

Yes I was a Vice President.. Your lack of comprehension is shoswing again. When I was a Volunteer Sheriff's Officer, that was part time. If you reread it I said I seldom even got in a 20 hour week. I had plenty of time. From the age of 12, I always had at least 3 jobs. But only one full time one at any given time. You may also have missed that I only require 1-1/2 to 3 hours sleep per night. That also gives me time. Do the math as well. I am 63 years old. I have had plenty of time. I began working at age 9. Didn't get to keep the money though the orphanage got it. Until my crash, I was never unemployed or had fewer than 3 jobs. Repeat: Only one full time one at any given time. I Until then, I had never been unemployed from a full time job more than 2 weeks. And even then I did self employed 40 hour a week jobs. Again. I repeat. As a Volunteer Sheriff's Officer, I never worked more than 20 hours in a week. Many weeks, as few as 5. Sometimes when I moved to another location for my main job, I didn't work at all as a LEO, because ut takes a while for paperwork to process and be recertified in another state. When I worked as a LEO volunteer, I believe my typical week was between 10 and 12 hours. The vast majority of my volunteer service was on the grave shift. My full time work was usually between the hours of 6 AM and 3 PM. That also provided me with plenty of time. With the exceptions of Saudi Arabia and a job I had in college as a toolman and geologist on an earth drill rig. I can't recall ever working overtime. Which was good because other than the job o the drill rig, I have always had salaried positions wher overtime is not paid. And no, I lost my arm in that motorcycle crash when a car made a sudden and unsignaled turn into my lane. We were both doing about 55 and met head on. The other driver was uninsured and had a revoked license for repeat DUI's. But he wasn't drunk at the time. I won a $1.3 Million judgment against him. The following week, he filed Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and blew off the debt. The result of that accident, after my own insurance paid $500,000, I paid the rest. After all the surgeries, therapy and the rest it cost me nearly $2.5 Million. So, I became the $3 Million Dollar Man with no bionics. I tried several artificial arms but found them more bother than they were worth. Actually I found the hook claw type the best but was repulsed by the appearance. The ones that looked more realistic had little function. They were maily cosmetic. And what most people fail to realize is that an artificial limb lasts about 3 years. And has to be repaired, adjusted and resized practically monthly. For a little better than two years after the crash, I was with reason very depressed and suicidal. But then I quit the antidepressants, decided I wasn't going to get the help needed and recovered for myself. I got back into writing and do articles on history, write for a weekly gun publication, quality control/assurance, aerospace procedures. Just looking into a full time job that looks good, though I am well overqualified. Still, it pays pretty well. And my medical expenses continue and on the books I am pretty much broke unless I resort to selling assets. I have properties in Oregon, Arizona, Colorado and Bolivia. My Bolivia property is about due to harvest the Eucalyptus trees. I have a shade over 840 acres there, with about 16 acres of the trees. Most of the rest is native trees, not of much interest to mills. The Eucalyptus trees are needed for rail ties. When Bolivia lost the war to Brazil, they were awarded a railroad. They built the railroad but no ties. Consequently, the rails don't stay in place and the train travels at about 5 MPH. My Bolivian property is near the town of Poca el Tigre. Santa Cruz the near big city and airport. Though I have flown to my property i a single engine tail dragger. No, I am not a pilot. Handled the controls in flight a few times though. My neighbors in Bolivia are all Mennonite Farmers. They all speak low German, I speak middle high German. So, we can communicate with not too much difficulty. And because I didn't marry and never spent much time dating and had no family of concern, that also provided me with lots of time. Can't help noticing that your score has dropped another 3 points and it's not me doing it.

My promotions up to E-4 were normally acquired. My promotions to E-5, E-6 and E-7 were given to me by General Harold K. Johnson. FYI, he was Chief of Staff and General Westmoreland's boss. After I was promoted to E-7, I was offered and declined WO-1. I very well might have received another promotion hadn't General Johnson retired. We didn't have Command Sergeant Majors back then. Highest enlisted rank was simply Sergeant Major. the time between E-6 and E-7 was less than two months. Why I received the promotions I don't know. But General Johnson would say, "Give that man a promotion." And I got it. I was E-3 when I decided I didn't want the Army as a career. It was then I declined taking the competitive exam for West Point.

True, I got sloppy on spelling Miranda.. You will find other errors as well. I don't put that much effort into being correct here. Now when paid for my work or I otherwise feel it's important I do much better. Like on that old Kaypro III of mine I can't even remember a mistake. Amazingly, that old antique corrects everything. I already stated that people had to be pretty blatant about the marijuana to get busted. It's pretty flagrant to have them looking at me, laughing and passing the joint. That said, I think most of the pot smokers I busted in public places were plain stupid. Were they to smoke that stuff in privacy, no one would be knocking their door down. Dave, could I ask you to drop the Mr.? I have an adversion to titles.I really cringe when someone calls me Doctor. I usually say I'm not a Physician. Here I blame my laxity on proper spelling to the spell check. It keeps telling me I incorrectly spelled correctly spelled words. And it lets my real spelling errors slide. I've had many cops misspell 4 and 5 letter words. And a real peeve is when they use their, there and they're improperly.
