Who is being greedy? The town of Breckenridge already charges a sales tax, a lodging tax and a local property tax. This is on top of a Summit County sales tax and mass transit tax. The town of Breckenridge has a reserve fund of $60 million dollars and I'm pretty damn sure new parking won't be free. If they want to improve the town, they should do so with the tax receipts they already collect. I don't always agree with Vail Resorts, but they are absolutely right on this one. It's just another $ grab by city bureaucrats .

Rubbish. This is the kind of crap philosophy that will be the end of our country. The whole privilege "debate" belittles achievement and excuses failure. The world is not fair. Get over it. Did I start my life on 2nd or 3rd base? You bet and I'm proud of it. Nobody forced my old man to go to night school to get his MBA after returning from war. No one forced my grandmother to go to college when women her age did not do so - my grandfather worked for the sanitation department. No one forced my great grandmother to work two jobs (cleaning office buildings and working in a soap factory) to pay for my grandmother's education. When other kids were dicking around in school, my parents kept me in line. No one forced me to get two advanced degrees or to work at night while in school. Did I have advantages other kids did not? Of course I did. That's called Sacrifice. You work hard and make good decisions to take care of your family and give them advantages in life. I stand on the shoulders of my parents and grandparents. I'm supposed to apologize for their hard work and foresight? Sorry, that's America and has always been America. Millions of immigrants are doing the same thing my family did in the last century. We don't all start in the same place and we all don't finish in the same place.

The problem here, and the reason cops everywhere are under the microscope, is that the officer's first reaction is confrontation. How about you make a mental note to talk with your supervisor or the city attorney before you accuse the person and issue a warning. The transient on the street corner yelling obscenities at the top of his lungs every day, that's OK. Some guy stacking rocks in the creek, that's gotta go. Many of these cops, not all, have a warped sense of "serve and protect."

I wish I could get back the 20 seconds it took me to read this post. Did you play Cowboys and Native Ameicans when you were a kid? If you feel so guilty about it, go volunteer on a reservation.

If you were to conduct a poll of Boulder citizens, i guarantee one of the top 3 issues would be the homeless. At what point will the city council wake the F up and address this problem?

Uh, no. Everyone understands that sh*t happens. It's how they have handled the aftermath that's infuriating. No updates on their website, Facebook or Twitter. One robo telephone last night at 11 pm indicating they are starting the relighting process and that someone must be home. No indication when Xcel will come to your house. No subsequent updates. No further calls. In the meantime, electricity goes out. You're telling me a company like Xcel does not have contingency plans and protocols for this type of thing? No planned schedule or service route that people can view online and follow progress? Crying out loud, it's the 21st century. These guys are a friggin a joke. I actually voted against municipalization. Really, I'm starting to think how worse could Boulder do.

"City officials have a long-term priority of growing the Boulder Police Department by hiring eight new officers."

8 new officers. Really? On what basis? Do they just pick the number 8 by throwing darts. Just what we need, more cops wasting their time hiding behind trees with radar guns to pay for their own salaries. We don't need more cops. We need the cops we have to patrol the streets on foot. Furthermore, if we get control of the homeless issue, maybe we could pare down the force, not increase it. Also, don't give me data on what the cost of adding cops will be to next year's budget. Tell me what the cost will be for the next 50 years, because that's what the cost will be over their careers and their pensions, at least.

What this kid needs is a good old fashion kick in the ass from his parents. No, I don't mean child abuse. I mean the kind of discipline that many of us grew up with but is now frowned upon. We're all supposed to be best buddies with junior now.

Seems like this happens every few months, either on Pearl or the Hill. Never heard if they caught the creeps that attacked the married couple one late night or that guy that pistol whipped a bunch of people on Boulder Creek path. Perhaps if the cops were out on the street patrolling for crime instead of stalking elk and hiding behind trees with their radar guns, we could deter some of the jackasses.

I respect our soldiers and their commitment to our country, but why should they also receive employment preferences? Do they deserve a job more than a laid off 45 year old guy with three kids to feed? A single mom trying to support her kid? A disabled 20 year old trying to lead an independent life? Sorry, I don't get it.
