Change.gov : CHSE Memo | Change.gov: The Obama-Biden Transition Team

Only in America, you can create such a bizarre term used for a document submitted to the Governmet: "Communities of Color". No wonder why this country is in such a social mess, I wonder what would be next when these "communities of Color" go from being the minority to the majority in the country....

Change.gov : Latino Leadership Report to Congress | Change.gov: The Obama-Biden Transition Team

Latino(a)s are Americans first and foremost. They are the new kid on the block, finally being able to voice their opinions loud and clear ( I know it bothers some people)-- asking a government to be fair and representative of their lives. How beautiful is this? Isn't this American...? I think they have learned quite well after centuries of living in this beautiful land. If there is anything we have learned from U.S. History, is that immigrant waves have enhanced and added value to this great nation we all call America. Our beloved country. We are all Americans. We are all expressing our views on how this government should look and do. What a great democracy my friend. The envy of the rest of world.

With all due respect my friend. Latino(a)s ( A relative popular new term coined in the U.S. better than Nixon's administration label of Hispanics.) is a NOT a special interest group. If you are referring that Latino(a)s are a special interest group that will divide this country, and you are also immensely missing the point, and sadly have forgotten about your American History class from H.S. Remember U.S. history textbooks and the stories about previous waves of immigrants fighting for their rights and their place in a new society, e.g. Irish and Italians...???

I agree with you to the extent that we are all Americans, no matter where we come from. At least in this Hemisphere based on my travels, unfortunately, many people still perceive that the term, "American" has certain physical attributes, and if you don't fit those, you're not considered very much an American. I don't know if the there are similarities to this attitude in other parts of the world....? But at least in this Hemisphere, it is a traditional held view by many. That's another reason to strive to diversify the Federal Goverment, especially those agencies which represent us to the rest of the world. So we can show the rest of the world the new Face of America in the 21st century-- Our true Face. Indeed, this will help a long way... ask a foreign service officer nowadays.

And we are talking about equality representation in the federal government, not immigration. Can you please put immigration to rest in this forum. Immigration rights, although important, is not the subject in this forum. Go to the immigration forum if you are so concerned about that subject my friend.

Yeah, but according to the numbers, the way these policies have been implemented has not worked effectively to bring a representative Government of the people it represents. They have to try something new, innovative, and most of all Hold people accountable.

With all due respect. If you have worked on the subject before at the federal level, you will know that this discussion about representation of the workforce at the federal level is not "disturbing and inappropriate," to discuss as a policy issue. Call and Ask the various minority members of Congress who've been around for awhile. Perhaps, they may take the time to explain it to you even if you are not one of their constituents. It is a subject very appropriate and important to discuss when governing a country. So this subject about the make up of government, leaders that create and implement policies, is overdue to every segment of the population. Especially Latino(a)s more than ever. As I understand, Latino(a)s have made a statement by playing a key factor of the electorate in the past elections (Research the stats and the breakdown by state, especially in battle states, of the electorate and winning margins). It is only descent and American to have this discussion and DO something about it.

It makes you wonder, what is the right thing for Government to do in this case? I just know the people demand CHANGE, and something must be DONE. Let's HOPE they do the right thing. P.S. Sorry you seeing three in a row from this humble servant. I would have put it all in one comment, but the system said it was too long so I had to break it into three parts. :D.

It makes you wonder, what kind of Changes should the new government of Change implement? More experimental studies to show whether there is statistical significance/difference in discrimination or none whatsoever in the hiring practices of Latino(a)s at the federal level? Improve the same hiring practices and hiring programs they have used to this date to bring qualified "minorities" into government ? Develop, create, implement new innovative and accountable programs to increase the hiring of qualified minorities in the fed govt.? Appoint a partnership committee between government and nongovernmental stakeholders and require them to produce a report that will recommend what the government should do, if any, to address this issue? (Someone told me once this sounds like the status quo but still let'sput it outhere)

It's a tough issue but one we can not continue sweeping under the rug.... I'm not an statistical expert, but what you suggest may be true, so perhaps government is not "discriminating" intentionally, but I'm no Einstein and I can see the Trend line on Chart 1 page 7, Hispanic under-representation declining over time-- since 2000 as it was designed for this chart. Consequently, we have a problem Houston--- the fastest growing segment of the population in the civil workforce is not seeing equal representation in their government and thus being able to bring about effective policies that improve their lives too.
