Sexy is pretty indefinable to me. It's both a thing with little depth and something with all the depth you can find. It's either Stephanie Santiago strolling around naked in Low End Theory bodypaint at the ATCQ gig....or, to me too, it's also someone like Kathy Burke, a person who most people might find repulsive to look at, but who is a great actress of some intelligence, verve and true ambition (ie. she wants to learn and learn and learn her craft and be the best she can be). I find myself drawn to anything she's in as a result.

Eye-candy sexy versus cerebral sexy - plus all the points inbetween...

Lovely - great way to start my evening!

On something related (simply how actors/ artists can make an impact they are rarely in a position to detect), this was on my FB timeline today - an anecdote from Tom Baker, who was Dr Who for much of the 70's, and it's almost as lovely to read. It's missing the sound and visuals, but it still made me smile:

Technologies may change, but people essentially remain the same, eh? These two halves of the partnership may as well have been conversing in Klingon or Neanderthal for all the sense their coupling makes to me. At least if they stay together in some way, that means nobody else has to bother putting up with them.

Seriously good reviews all-round. I love Glasper, so it's guaranteed I'll at least be listening to it. The guy is a bit of a modern master.

Snarky Puppy. Funny, I've only heard one tune (can't remember which one), and it was on the radio show of my favourite of all DJ's, Gilles Peterson, a few weeks ago. He said he'd often been told about them but had not really liked any of it that much, except for that one track he proceeded to play on his show. I do remember enjoying it, and Hex's review was so enthused, how on earth can I NOT listen to it!?

Eminem. There's nothing I can add to the oceans of praise for his skills down the years, but the contrast between almost everyone hear saying "meh", and Troy saying "brilliant!" actually makes me more intrigued than usual. I may have to check it out - maybe it's his 'De La Soul Is Dead' or 'Buhloone Mindstate' - underappreciated but ultimately masterful......
