Having said that I also believe that increase estrogen levels (from the pill) in water has played a part. Certain fish now change sex because of this so I don't think we're a million miles away from that same estrogen having an affect on gender preferences. I doubt it's a genetic thing as they don't exactly procreate so by taking the publicity away they will reduce in numbers somewhat. Here is my advice: 1) NEVER invest in the stock market - your holdings can be eroded overnight by short sellers of the same company shares that you have invested in. The bankers will always profit. 2) Avoid pension funds. The same applies but you also pay management charges so it's a double whammy. If you don't pay 40% tax or above it's not worth it anyway. The tax relief you get for your payments is eradicated by the tax you pay when you draw your pension in most cases. You are better off buying something tangible such as precious metals. If done in small enough quantities you are below the radar and they can't charge you management fees or tax you if you are careful (some coins carry no capital gains tax). Not only that but the whole fiat (paper) money system is about to collapse so he who is holding physical gold/silver stands to protect his wealth. Therefore, is it likely the BoE will put up interest rates at all if they know the govt can't pay them back?" So could they carry on printing at low rates for a while longer? The answer is Yes but that would still have an inflationary effect (as we are already experiencing). By BoE raising interest rates the govt would hasten the decline which would become totally unmanageable (and probably cause a revolution) so I suspect they'd prefer the slower decline of low interest rates and steal our wealth by stealth.
