How juvenile. Why don't both states STFU for a second and realize that they're all to blame, instead of bickering and pointing the finger at each other? That doesn't set a very good example. Why doesn't she just refuse parolees from any state, if she's going to do it, federally authorized or not? I'm pretty sure each state has its dangerous people, not just Arkansas. She's causing a big enough problem with this state's parolees alone. Why worry about another state's as well?

So these new charges just prove that our own state's judicial system hasn't learned its damn lesson in all this. Seriously...Rendering criminal assistance? That's it? And why did the women get bail, because they're female? sigh... Such a disappointment. And another convicted murderer, who was walking around in our state after being released in AR as well. Awesome.

I think you're trying to justify your reasons for being upset at the fact these managers make that much money, by coming up with outlandishly paranoid schemes in your head. Sure, it's a pretty penny. I don't think that you're getting the gist of the situation though, honestly. Managers can't control their workers to determine whether or not they're going to show up on a call after they've been drinking. What's wrong with holding the M.E. himself personally accountable for his own actions?

You bring up an excellent point. So many people think that they have some sort of "right" to act as rudely as they want to to an officer and still get treated nicely. There's a good quote I read once that said "Cops are there to HELP your ass, not KISS it!" ...They aren't there to do anyone any favors, but they will try to work with someone if the person has a good enough attitude about things. That's all. People don't get that. It's like any customer service industry. If you're nice enough about things (not outwardly rude) you can get a lot further with a complaint or problem you've had with their service. You start yelling or talking about how offended and p*ssed off you are, then they're going to shut down and tell you they've done all they can do. It makes me wonder how many of these people who complain about this "special treatment" react this way, so they wouldn't get it.

If the officers are patient enough to wait for a ride to arrive. I won't say that police officers make it a habit of sitting around waiting for a sober person to pick up the drunk driver. That would be a lie. They also try not to make it a habit of driving people home in their patrol cars because if there's an emergency, for safety's sake, they'd have to properly rid their unit of this drunk person first before responding, which could take precious time they need to race to that call. But yes, it's happened. :)

Tell that to the other dads in prison for other crimes, who can't see their precious children anymore because of their actions. I've worked around criminals often enough to know that child killers do not get treated very well in prison. They *have* to flock together to keep safe. Sometimes it doesn't make a difference. You're right, I read a little about that story and literally got sick to my stomach.

Ohh you're talking about just that one story of the drunk driver. I thought you were making a generalization. My mistake. You know, that story hasn't sat well with me for a while. Sure, I gave the officers the benefit of the doubt in the beginning. I'm not ashamed of doing that, because I like to think that they deserve that respect until it's been proven that they don't. Like I said, we're all a little biased based on our own experiences. However, looking more into it, it's extremely hard for me to put complete faith in that officer's actions. Fair enough? :) Generally speaking, however, not all details are going to be released to the media regarding every story. Not only that, you have to take into consideration that as much as we'd like to think otherwise, media reporters are just as biased as we are, and at times that shows in how they spin a story. Unfortunate, but true to a degree. Either way, generally speaking, there are stories that (to me) seem pretty cut and dry, in which you've taken the criminal's side. I guess that's just something we'll never get past. All in all, there are many people on these boards that I'd prefer to steer clear of in real life. You aren't one of those people. You are an intelligent, decent person, with differing views. I respect that. At least there's thought behind your opinions.

Okay wait a minute... So this guy had his six year old daughter get his loaded gun for him from the bedroom, and then "accidentally" shot her between the eyes? Are you telling me that they couldn't smell the BS coming off this story a mile away? ...13 years is a grave injustice. Yet another slap in the face to this poor girl and her mother. Unbelievable. ...And he plans on appealing this decision. Awesome.

I appreciate your links to back your case, but you have to understand that you're going to have a much bigger library of information to go on, not because corruption is more common than not, but because anything being written about a police officer's good deeds gets ignored for the most part. I can definitely understand your position regarding what you read in a paper. However, one more question, if you don't mind me asking: You said "Until then... the shooting is questionable and I will not give the officer the benefit of the doubt." --- Why? To pinpoint the area I'm most confused about, why would you immediately believe the worst about an officer you know nothing about? You aren't out there doing their job, so even if you think you can imagine what it's like to go out and do what they do every day, you really don't fully understand. Nothing against you personally, it's just not something that's easily comprehended without actually experiencing. We all talk about treating others fairly, yet it's unfair to police officers to treat them as if they're a suspect if you don't have any information to prove one way or the other. Yes, I'll almost always try and defend the police officer, but that's due to personal experience and bias. I know this. However, even if I didn't have that experience I'd want to find more details before immediately thinking less of a police officer just for having to use their weapon. It's actually not something most officers want to do in their careers. The majority of police officers are not out there to shoot someone or make someone's life miserable. They just aren't. Yes, a lot are, and even more get this power trip idea in their heads which make them come off as complete jerks. The majority aren't like that, though. Why you'd need an officer, employed to protect and serve their public, to prove that they're on the level, all due to having to discharge their service weapon is beyond me. I guess I just don't understand why you wouldn't give an officer, whom you've never met, the benefit of the doubt first. I don't immediately think that people standing near my car are up to no good, until they prove otherwise. I give them the benefit of the doubt. It should be the same with police officers, IMO. Anyway, sorry to ramble. It's pretty much a dead issue, now. Regarding the DUI guy, I really don't care either way. I've seen enough "special treatment" in all other professions to not worry that a few departments might do that too. It's all in who ya know. That's the way the world is, and not worth freaking out about, you're right. I won't lose sleep over it either. :)

You're the only person here who's insisting upon a cop picking you out of a crowd to show your ID. lol Even I have said that yes, that's not right. So give 'em hell. I have maintained my position though, that if the officer has a reason to stop you (matching a description being one of several valid reasons), then yes, it's a different story. :) No sense in arguing when we're not even on the same page. :) I'm super glad you volunteer for such a wonderful organization. I'd hope that you got something out of doing that as well, because I'd think it would be just as rewarding to know how you're helping your community.

Sad story, but I wish we'd hear more stories about the men and women like these who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect and serve our nation. It's that he died a month ago and this is the first detailed story that's really come out about it. I have the utmost respect and love for our soldiers fighting the good fight to keep us safe. I pray that all of them are able to come home safely as soon as they possibly can. Breaks my heart that 30K more are being sent out, but perhaps this will finally be the end of it.

Not necessarily. Or did you just skim my post for the good points you wanted to argue and forget the rest? It's up to the police officers on the scene on whether or not you go to jail, honestly. It's their discretion. Like I said, they aren't going to babysit someone until they can come up with a ride on their own, but if the driver isn't being belligerent and cocky, officers will be more willing to work with you if you've already got another way of getting home right that minute. I've personally seen it happen. You're right, he might have received special treatment. Who cares? It's unfair, but life isn't fair. lol People in other professions do this all the time. I don't think it's fair that I have to pay for my Subway sandwich knowing that other people who are friends/family members of the workers there can possibly get a free sub. Do I freak out about it? No. Honestly, it's not worth my time. So he got out of spending the night in jail. So what? I guess the only people who should be concerned are the ones that are planning on getting caught drinking and driving, because they won't receive the same treatment.

I think that he pretty much showed how dangerous he was by taking out 4 of our armed police officers ambush-style (in the BACK, I might add), so who cares if SPD shot him? Are you joking?? What reports said he was shot in the back, btw? From what I heard, Clemmons was facing Officer Kelly and refused to put his hands up. After the danger he put society at large in for 2 days, and after his display of heinous violence against 4 other unsuspecting officers, did you really think that Kelly was also going to risk his own life by arguing with this man who has never shown anything other than complete disregard for police officers? I don't think so. It's not Kelly's fault Clemmons didn't learn his lesson the first half a dozen times he was given a second chance.

Actually, several officers DO read the news boards on their off time. They're regular people, just like you and me, when they aren't fighting crime or (for your benefit) occasionally committing corruption. Sometimes a pat on the back to show your support is necessary, not just for the cops, but for the other people who read these boards. Not to prove something to them, but to show that you don't feel as if their jobs should always be in suspect, or that it's such a thankless profession. Nobody's asking much from you or anyone else. Just a simple acknowledgment occasionally that you do more than judge a police officer's performance based on news articles would be nice. Remember, we're all role models to someone out there. If you want to live in a nicer society, the first step is to be nicer to society yourself. Being so jaded, or feeling as if you don't owe anyone the kindness and appreciation we all know you're capable of giving won't get ya far. That's all I'm saying. I'm sorry you felt as if I was attacking you. I'm not. Go ahead and do the questioning. Just realize that not everyone in the world is biased and some actually get paid pretty well to NOT be biased, which is why they're hired to investigate questionable acts police officers make in the first place. Yes, be skeptical - To a point. We all should be, just to be cautious. However, you probably wouldn't have to fight for your side so often if you'd offer up a few kinds words when they're warranted occasionally. I know you have, but it's so incredibly one-sided still, so those few comments end up getting drowned out by the next suspicious cop story that comes out that's begging for your input. (ie; the M.E. who got written a DUI) Granted, this last part might be hard to do considering news media really only likes to print out the bad things cops do, because it's just expected that they do a job well done..When they don't, THEN it's news.
