The Wild Hunt : Election Night Wrap-Up: Lale, O'Donnell, Hindus, and Christian Conservatives

I was an LP activist for a long time, and I saw the sellout of the National LP to the Right coming years ago; it was finally consummated with the nomination of Barr. We now have no principled libertarian voice in national politics. The Founders warned us, and we didn't listen. Hell, Eisenhower warned us and we said "military-industrial what? How about them Yankees?"

The Wild Hunt : Checking Back In With the Samhain Flood (of News Coverage)

Without trying to pin down a definition of "troll," I'll just say that I know from experience that that little part of the mind that keeps most of us from caring whether we look like horseparts is, in his case, being used for something else. Perhaps it's part of his hyperbole generator, since there are actually non-Wiccan Pagans in Birmingham, and certainly non-fluffy ones as well.

That is a marvelous poem. I figure "remind hum" is a typo? You should fix that when you get back, poets don't like typos ;-)

When I was a member of <J. Random Zen Center>, they ran a very nice ethnic vegetarian kitchen. They did seem a little strong on the "health food" side, to the extent that I saw that the shopping list on the wall specified _fertilized_ eggs. I was forced to annotate it with "Why would you want to abort a chicken?"

The Wild Hunt : Quick Note: Thorn & Local Druids Interviewed

That is the take-away -- just keep restating your points, whether they ask you about that or something else. We have all heard politicians do it. None of us will likely be on TV enough times for anyone to get tired of us. I do admire the coolth under fire that the interviewees showed. I would not have done as well unless I drilled myself silly in advance. I would also like to ask again that people avoid saying or implying that they are better (more acceptable) than those nasty Satanists ... who happen to have the same rights we do. One can have one's critiques of Satanism (hopefully informed ones), but constantly repeating that "we're not Satanists" as if that alone makes us OK is just wrong.

That was OK, but ... let's all think about how to say what we are without referring to the Devil or human sacrifice. People didn't hear what was said, they heard "Druid" "Devil worship" and "human sacrifice" in the same sound-bite. I live deep in the Bible Belt and I have never heard a reference to Druidic devil worship. I might now, though.

Yes! We all need to stop throwing Satanists under the bus, even if it DID keep the bus from running us over (which actually it doesn't). Satanists are legally protected to exactly the same extent Pagans and Heathens are.

The Wild Hunt : Christianity's Pagan God of Midsummer

"I'm glad to see the point being made that Christan myth and pagan myth are not opposed to each other. " While it's quite true that the mythology of the Bible can be seen in its original ("pagan") matrix, you can't slip this statement past most modern Christians, who'd be too busy being apoplectic about the phrase "Christian myth" to listen to the rest of it. J the B may be Catholicism's "Pagan God of Midsummer," but this little thing called the Reformation polished that off for a large segment of the world's Christians.

The Wild Hunt : Quick Notes: Wicca in Livingston, More Prothero, and WASPs

All that nonsense is not required, though. Since the Temple through which I have my ordination is registered with Probate Court as such, my ordination is valid for all legal *and journalistic* purposes. If that is the distinction they're making, it still needs to go away.
