KCRG : Cedar Rapids Police Chief Calls Camera Ban Bill “Ludicrous” | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, I

clared - I had posted a comment earlier in support of the cameras. It has now magically disappeared! Yours is the most reasoned response yet against using the cameras. Excellent point! Although, allegedly, the cameras would generate enough revenue to hire more police - and free up existing police to patrol other areas of town looking for the problems you describe. Your point is very valid though.

There seems to be an amazing number of people who think breaking the traffic laws are ok! They think that the police should not enforce these laws. I wonder if they feel the same about burglary for example... especially if it is their house that is burglarized! That law they would probably want enforced! So I guess everyone wants to pick and chose which laws he can break and which he wants enforced. Isn't that convenient!!! Sorry folks, it don't work that way! I agree with the previous comment that I would rather have the law breakers paying for the police costs than all the taxpayers! Also, not positive, but I'm pretty sure that if you were not the driver of the car, and you can provide proof, you will not be charged.

KCRG : Streetscape Plans Incorporate Marion\'s Past | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports, and Weath

The disease that has been infesting city hall in Cedar Rapids for years has spread to Marion - an uncontrollable urge to do everything based on "looking old" without regard to practicality or cost. Brick streets? Yes, we do already have brick streets in Marion - but obviously, these knuckleheads have never driven on any of them! This decision comes only weeks after the Marion council decided to reroute traffic from 7th ave to 6th - another complete waste of taxpayers money. We need new leadership in Marion - people whose feet are firmly on the ground and who don't look through rose colored glasses. Our taxes are high enough!

Agreed. While it is mildly humorous, it is not the kind of story I want Iowa to be in the news for. Come to think of it, why is this story even in the news? Oh yeah, that's right, because there isn't much else going on here!

GazetteOnline.com : Cedar Rapids looks to emulate medical district in Grand Rapids

There is no reason this "medical mall" can't be built without closing 2nd Ave. They can build over the street, have skywalks and/or tunnels, etc. Just because some study says 1st Ave can handle the traffic today, doesn't mean it can tomorrow - especially once the medical mall is operating and drawing even more traffic to that part of town. DO NOT CLOSE 2nd AVE!

Yet another election I'll be sitting out... some choice.... Braindead or Culverthead. When will primary voters get a clue and stop voting for people just because they've heard of the name? We need a new way of doing this - the system is broken.

I agree. Her story is very inspirational and I'm sure had a lot to do with her winning, however, I think it should be a rule that you have to live in the state you are representing. Pretty sad that we have to import our beauty queens too now! Looking around, I guess I can see why! ;-)

GazetteOnline.com : Highway 100 extension gets $4.3 million in new highway plan

I understand the need for a west side beltway... however, dumping this out onto Collins road is ill advised. A true beltway goes AROUND the city, not through it! It makes more sense to connect this new beltway further north to County Home Rd - which will eventually have to be 4 laned over to Hiway 13 anyway.

Sorry Fuman.... I should have been clearer. I was speaking mostly of the commercial flood recovery. Things like the new library, restoring the Veterans Memorial building, etc. You are right that alot of the residential flood recovery will be performed by either volunteers or the homeowners themselves. Congrats on your new job!

I suspect a good portion of the job growth in Cedar Rapids will be due to flood recovery efforts, the new courthouse, etc. As such, the job growth may be temporary. Let's hope these new jobs will spur other, spin off jobs that will be longer lasting. Nice to know we are on the radar though!

GazetteOnline.com : Opponents of new Anamosa middle school point to location

“You had to be careful who you were saying what you thought (about the issue) to because you’d get a lecture on how you don’t support the kids.” So true! This is always the case in school elections. Too many school boards are too much into empire building - a simple school that could be built for $10 million ends up being $50 million by the time all the glitter is added - and if you question it, you are against the kids. I commend the voters of Anamosa for having the courage to take a stand. It is time we demand responsible decisions from our elected officials.

After all the time the legislators spent on this issue, this is the best they could do? A 1 year "educational" period? Give me a break! How many people will die during that first year? Only a secondary offense? Give me another break! So as long as I am not violating any other laws, it is "technically" ok for me to text while driving? A $30 fine? Give me the biggest break yet!!! Once again our SPINELESS legislators have passed a meaningless law so they can say they did something. Truly pathetic. Even if you are against a texting ban, you have to be outraged at the time (at taxpayer's expense) that these morons wasted on creating this drivel.
