Thudfactor : The failure of the profit motive

Yes, there are exceptions, but I think blogs are by and large not well equipped for the investigative part of investigative journalism. Most are best at offering commentary and perspective, and following up on what has been reported. But as we steadily lose places that do that initial reporting...

He has the look of a man who's pleasantly surprised he performed even half as well as he did over the last eight years. "Ruined the country? Heck, I'm just glad I didn't ruin the entire world!"

Thudfactor : Every victory a defeat

There have been disappointments from Obama -- that minute-long prayer thing is high on my own list -- but it's ridiculous to call his administration failed before it's even begun. Or to equate those disappointments with the sort we've seen from Bush over the past eight years. There's a difference in letting a crazy bigot give your invocation and letting crazy people run the entire show. If anyone's presidency was failed, it was Bush's. Except I don't think that Bush himself would see it as a failure. I think his only disappointment will be that people keep telling him everything else about his presidency was a disappointment. I think the man's honestly convinced he did a good job, and that history will judge him better than the present day...or he just doesn't care. We'll see lots of disappointments from Obama, I fear. He can't, and shouldn't, try to please everyone or every issue. But failure? Way too early to judge that.

Thudfactor : Can we talk to each other any more?

Not really. It is very vague, I know. Maybe when I've had a chance to poke around it some more I'll figure out what exactly I don't like or learn to like it. I don't actively dislike it or anything.

I don't think we should shun Warren. I welcome dialogue, even with those whose opinions I disagree with. Especially those, because how else are we ever going to move past just angrily disagreeing with each other? But I don't think the place for that dialogue is the inauguration, and I think Warren is a terrible and disappointing choice for the invocation.
