My company will give me a $50 in American Express gift card if I do a health screening once a year, and use the Mayo Clinic website to monitor my weight, stress, nutrition, and fitness activities. People need the right tools and incentives to help them want to stay healthy, which in the long run will cost our healthcare system much less than the current reactive system. We all own our own health, which means we need to educate ourselves on how to stay healthy all year long.

Here's one more way to keep healthcare costs down. More companies like the one I work for need to encourage healthier life styles, and provide incentives for their employees to take better care of themselves. My company offers free fruit at all locations. They have an onsite health clinic where employees can schedule appointments for non-urgent medical needs, which costs less than seeing your primary care physician or going to Urgent care. We have onsite recreation centers with all the weight lifting equipment anyone would need. We have volleyball courts, basketball courts, baseball fields, and soccer fields. Studies have proven that healthy and active employees are more motivated and productive if they exercise on a regular basis. Even walking on a regular basis will improve your overall health.

My Dermatologist said to me during my appointment, “If socialized health care were so great, why are 20 percent of my patience from Canada?” When I was in England last summer I asked the taxi driver what he thought about England’s universal healthcare system. He told me that it took two years and five doctors before someone was convinced he needed surgery on a broken ankle. Folks, this is what we have to look forward to if PBO gets his way. I can’t believe that he is pushing such a huge tax increase and major change to our society in such a short period of time. Congress must do this before their summer recess, but they aren’t thinking about the long-term impact. This country is spinning out of control and needs to stop or we’ll have some serious issues with both political parties. If PBO continues to put more cost burdens on businesses, we will loose even more jobs. So much for his stimulus package.

OldMarine, I agree with you 100%, this is just a smoke screen which we can't let distract us from two other major laws PBO is trying to cram down our throats; C and T, and socialized medicine. Brass, you are probably already doing more than most Americans. The important thing to remember is that we can't bury our heads in the sand. Here is what I am doing: 1. I just cut up my Republican National Committee membership card and mailed it back to the party headquarters. 2. I just changed my voter registration from Republican to Independent, until I am confident the GOP is going in the right direction 3. I am reading Glenn's book "Common Sense" and one of the other books recommendd on the 912 Project website called "The 5000 Year Leap" by W. Cleon Skousen. 4. I just left a voicemail and email for my Congressman Harry Mitchell telling him to vote no on the National Energy Tax bill (cap and trade) which is up for vote on 7/26 5. Spreading the word to friends, family, and colleagues If we stick together we will ultimately prevail, along with Glenn Beck's support. :)

I think it has to be a two pronged approach. The most obvious way for the government to increase their tax revenue, notice I did not say increase taxes, is to provide more incentives to businesses to create jobs here in the United States. More working people will contribute their share of taxes, which will help keep all of our taxes down. Next, once there is more tax revenue available, the government needs to clean out all the pork in the spending bills, and put the money where the people want it to go. I doubt that the general public cares about some expensive waterfall in a local zoo. I hope all the tea parties being held across the country on April 15th will send a strong and lasting message to all our politicians, because taxes affect all parties.__

I agree. I had a co-worker back in the early 80's who was suffering long-term affects of AO when he was exposed during his military career. There has to be a better way. I use a chemical by Ortho called Triox which kills weeds for up to a year in my desert landscape. They could use the big earth movers to tear that vegitation out by the roots so it won't grow back
