I think that the President should have also served in our military. By having served in the military, it shows self-sacrifice for the love of our country. How can a President be the Commander in Chief of our military forces if he has never served one day in his life? That is absurd. And I agree that the Speaker of the House should step down, as well as the Secretary of Treasury. How can Geitner serve in such a position when he was not responsible himself and was a tax cheat? Had that been one of us, we would have had severe consequences. But how do we come up with new laws when the lawmakers are a huge part of the problem, and to get new lawmakers in who are not part of the corruption, it takes a ton of money to run for office that unless you are part of the elite, you don't stand a chance? This is a sad mess, but I'm not giving up hope for real change. Hope seems to be all we have left.
Well said. Our government seems to be an enabler ... sending a message that you can be irresponsible and everyone will later bail you out. There's that old saying ... you can't take blood from a turnip. The government is taking money that just isn't there. We will never be able to get out of this mess. All they are doing is totally destroying the American economy. Sure, the economy was hurting before, but as every day passes by, and with every new bailout, it is killing the American economy.

Sadly, it takes a lot of money to change things, and that is why the average person cannot enter public service, when that person could probably do a better job than those in office now. The average person knows about budgeting to live within their means. Our government is handing out money like they are playing the Monopoly game. I cannot recall in my entire life ever seeing our government in such a mess, where you can't miss watching the news for one single day because there is some new crisis on a daily basis. Sadly, I don't think things are going to get better either, and I do believe all of this is orchestrated to lead us into a one world government. God help us all.

And as far as our young people being required to serve (and I heard that there is a provision about older people as well, but I won't go there because I haven't done my research on that matter yet), I just think it is very ironic that the government would try to do that when our very own President has never served a day in his life in our military. That should be one of the requirements of becoming President. The President should have served in the military and laid out the same sacrifices that the men and women in our military do everyday.
You are right, 1sbwa, and if anyone has read The Audacity of Hope, you will see that Obama had an agenda before he even entered office, and it seems that he is determined to follow-through with his agenda, even if it is not in the best interests of America. My thoughts ... First, he should have never been allowed to run for President because I still think he is not qualified. Second, he sold America on his charismatic personality and ability to campaign, and if you notice, every time the people disagree with what is happening, he goes off to do another campaign speech. Third, the entire administration is a joke, and I still can't believe that Geitner was appointed to head up the Treasury Dept. when he was a tax cheat ... had it been one of us, we would have been in jail. And as far as this bill is concerned, I think that what someone else said is correct ... that while America has its eyes on the AIG fiasco, they will try to slip this in. The government seems to be very good at diversion tactics.

The parents tried to get a meeting with him countless times to assist in the fight against infant mortality and reform within the Board of Medicine, and he refused repeated requests. I know this for a fact ... I wrote the letters for my brother and his wife. It was my nephew that died as a result of negligent medical care. Kaine's agenda is not to protect the citizens of VA. His eyes are on Obama and the White House. Thank goodness he's almost out of here.
In John 4:16, Jesus says that no man comes to the Father except through Him. Ephesians 2:18 says "For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father." I was always taught that when I pray, I do so "in Jesus' name." Governor Kaine is WRONG and I am ashamed to say he is the governor of my state ... or shall I say now PART-TIME governor since Obama appointed him as Chair of the Democratic National Committee. Even when he was supposed to be our full-time governor, he has done very little in our state. His term is short-lived though, and I pray that Bob McDonnell will be our next governor. I know him personally and he is a genuine Christian man. This can and hopefully will be reversed. I WILL be in Richmond on Nov. 1, Lord willing.

I, too, remember where I was when 9-11 happened, and the feelings I had that day and following, and the tone of our nation at that time. I wrote a poem that was published in a book of poems called "The Colors of Life." The poem was called "The Day America Changed." Looking back, it certainly has changed again.

All fallen heroes at Ground Zero.
Why the devastation that changed our nation?

You are definitely on target, and I do believe that the time is near for another disaster. There has to be a disaster to make the people accepting of the changes. It's sad but true. The new administration and Congress are a runaway train, and eventually the train is going to crash. Unfortunately, the victims on the train are all of us. I didn't vote for Obama, but I know that no matter who is in the White House, the train is running regardless, and most of us know who the conductor is.
