The Reality-Based Community : Questions for gun-rights advocates

Mark, Perhaps you are unaware that #BlackLivesMatter usually carries firearms at all their events. Would that change your position on the topic? 1. Yes. 2. Yes. 3. Seriously? Could you possibly build a bigger straw man argument? The answer is simple, who initiated the violence? Shouting and shoving is not violence, just as Stand Your Ground and Open Carry are well defined legally; so please stop trying to redefine them in order to justify your irrational fear. 4. They would be well within their rights to exit the building armed just as the LEOs were armed when they came out of the jail to confront an armed #BlackLivesMatter protest. I would highly suggest you actually research and learn about the issue instead of making hypothetical scenarios based on ignorance of the law.

Silly AnBheal -- #BlackLivesMatter has been open carrying firearms at their events in Texas for a long time. BTW: It was Progressive Democrats that denied Rev. MLK and other minorities their 2A Rights.

Brett, It appears the author of the article does not know the #BlackLivesMatter in Texas have been carrying firearms at almost all of their rallies including political. None of them were shot when they were protesting.

I agree that Insurance companies are not immune from fraud and abuse however one can take them to state or federal court. Also, the amount of fraud is far less than seen in MC/MA.\\ I understand the disgust because I deal with both a private (through my employer) HMO and my TriCare.

I have no problem with the teachers. We have similar issues here in NM with children that come from disadvantaged backgrounds. I'm sorry but I don't buy the "learning environment" male bovine excrement. If that were a factor then how did our grandparents ever survive learning in one room schools. The biggest issue is the lack of discipline in schools and the lack of administrative support for teachers on these issues. We socially promote children instead of insisting that they be held back to ensure that they can comprehend the material before adding another grade's material. It's bad enough that we dumb down the curriculum but then we don't ensure the children learn it. We appear to be more focused on "social" issues than with educational issues in our schools. I know that children from any background can learn to read, write, and do basic math before they are 5 years old. Even those who initially do not understand/speak English very well. I've seen it with my step-son when he came to the USA and the programs that I work for. Sorry for the rant. I'm a little tired of setting low goals for children instead of high expectations for them to achieve and take pride in accomplishing.

I hear ya about insurance companies however the government is still a worse option for many reasons including one cannot sue the government for issues. Government should set the minimum standards that must be met, not run the programs. TriCare may not be the best health care however it is private contract HMO to meet government standards and does meet the needs of our active duty dependents and retirees. It would be better than ACA. As for M/C and M/A, one can look at the charts that they use against health care companies to see the refusal rates. Not to mention the issue with payments and fraud associated with government run programs. The VA has been doing the same thing for years before the unplanned volume. The volume has just made the problem worse. In my case, I was rated upon a two year appeal for one neck disk which is deteriorating due to the work I did in the military, Special Ops. Now it is 4 disks deteriorating and I have had two rounds of RFA (burning out nerves) yet the VA says there is no change. This is the problem with government run health care and treatment. If I did not have to go to the VA for disability rating, the civilian world would have already rated me disabled. I'm not looking for anything other than an honest rating. I prefer to continue working even with the disability. Hell, I've been working my whole life, don't know what I would do if I wasn't working, pain or no pain.

The real tragedy of that quote is it's inaccuracy. They have already found that the people in the Embassy assault in Cairo were saying that they were all OBL (UBL) and carrying flags similar to the Al Qaeda flag. They have also found that the incidents in Benghazi are directly connected back to Al Qaeda and their urging followers to seek revenge on OBL's killers. Probably hasn't helped that the Obama campaign has been using the phrase "GM is alive and Osama is dead" during stump speeches.

It reminds me of several things. The first that comes to mind is the attack by fanatics on the UK consulate in Benghazi. Which prompted the UK government to close and remove the staff and throw out the Iranian diplomatic staff from the UK.

ACA I'll leave to our other discussion. :D I'll have to disagree on the other issue. The record of Community Organizers, Unions, and Progressives, especially in the past few decades does not show any result which benefits the people whom they are supposed to represent. Good example is the Chicago Teacher's Union (remember Obama's speech last campaign to them) on strike. This is not about money, they were offered 16% increase over 4 years above their highest in the nation salary. They were offered benefits. However they were also asked to be accountable for teaching children under their tutelage. Chicago schools have the worst (or damn close) record.

Our disagreement appears to be mostly with the single payer issue. I might have a problem with a payroll tax. However if this would cover a basic insurance policy then it might be feasible. IOW it would cover everyone in the country and the needs as opposed to what people want. I would also allow people to purchase enhanced coverage from the health insurance companies for the "extras". I have a big issue with the government controlling health care. I have seen what happens to benefits and costs when the government controls the issue. While everyone complains about health insurance providers declining services and procedures, you will find that Medicaid/Medicare has a higher rate of refusal. The VA has a higher rate of refusal too for veterans.

While past performance is no guarantee of future prospects, he at least has a track record of success both in business, Olympics (which our Brit friends understand is not so easy), and as Governor of a Democrat dominated State. Romney also has a record of helping people on the personal level, both family and friends. Unlike President Obama who voted neither yea nor nay bu present while serving in the Illinois House and Senate, who as a community organizer did not accomplish any project to the betterment of the community, or his treatment of family members. His brother lives on less than what Obama spends on Starbucks each year. His illegal immigrant aunt lives on US government welfare, and his illegal immigrant uncle has several DUIs.

If you look at your reference, you will see that for the years cited, they reduce the yearly claim of $338 Billion however it was still over $150 Billion using there figures. The number of illegal immigrants in the US has risen since the factcheck.org references. Under Bush for 8 years, the cost of the wars was ~800 Billion. Even using $100 Billion for illegal immigrant costs, they would be even. Off the top of my head, here are a few thoughts on ACA alternatives: 1. Do not use the legislation as a Tax vehicle. 2. Make health insurance a personal responsibility. Allow companies to provide "incentives" to assist their employee purchasing insurance. 3. Allow health insurance companies to operate across states like auto and home insurance. 4. Standardize health insurance for basic policy and catastrophic policy. 5. Standardize the Coding used for claims across all policies. I'll get back with some others.

Yes, we can agree on this point. However the Christian philosophy (worldview) is dominant in most countries at the top of the Global peace index. There is a difference between Christian philosophy and Christian theology. One need not be a follower of the theology to be influenced by or a follower of the philosophy. Even Ghandi made this point with his famous quote "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians."

Actually the money spent yearly on illegal immigrants in the USA is more than was spent yearly on Iraq and Afghanistan. We seem to forget, thanx to Progressives pandering on the Hispanic illegal immigrants, that there are just as many illegal immigrants from other nations not just Mexico.
It is obvious that you are fully on board with the Marxist ideology. 1. #Occupy had nothing to do with working class people. 2. Christians are not denying birth control aids to poor families. The cost of birth control is ~$9.00 a month or one could even get it free from several agencies including Planned Parenthood. 3. No one is denied health care even if they do not have health insurance. It is sad that Progressives have to project their own actions onto others. One only has to look at the Progressives actions and compare said actions with the accusations they make against others. Simple example, Progressives accused the TEA Party of numerous things with no proof. Compare this with the Progressive #Occupy movement and their actions. Every accusation made by the Progressive were factual actions by #Occupy.
